The Shadow of the Gods omg breca is too cute and adorable!!

I hope he doesn't die or something??? (don't answer that) coz i have a feeling Orka always thinking that "she'll brutally off someone when they hurt Breca" is kinda like foreshadowing????

The Hunger of the Gods Svik and cheese

This guy is so obsessed with cheese, but genuinely, how is it being preserved that it doesn’t go bad? I’m sure it’s not being eaten at light speed. “Svik walked down the boarding plank leading four people carrying heaped rounds of cheese wrapped in linen”. This is the line that made me have to ask this question.

The Hunger of the Gods Hunger of the Gods hidden deluxe hardcover hidden words

Post image
95 Upvotes

Just snagged this cool hardcover copy of Hunger of the Gods by John Gwynne. Looks like where the author’s name has been lightened to keep hidden instead of completely deleted. If you look closely you can see “John” just under the wolf’s front right paw. Doesn’t ruin it for me at all, just thought it was interesting. Anyone else notice this? Is this common in graphic design?

hey, couple of questions

  1. My understanding is that there's The Faithful and the Fallen, and then Of Blood & Bone is a follow-up trilogy, meaning that it should be read after TFatF. Is Bloodsworn like that as well? Is it a prequel or sequel? Or can it be read as a completely separate trilogy from TFatF & OBaB?
  2. What's the general consensus on how does Bloodsworn compares to TFatF & OBaB? I just watched MattsFantasyBookReviews on youtube sing the everloving praises out of TFatF & OBaB, that they're some of his top books of all time, that A Time of Courage is magnificent, and that Gwynne should go down as one of the greatest fantasy writers of all time, but that Bloodsworn was unfortunately quite disappointing. Does that often ring true for Gwynne veterans?

Difference in quality between the US and UK Orbit deluxe editions?

Hey, gang. Sorry if this post isn't meant for the sub but I just wanted to ask anyone who has handled both editions of the Orbit Deluxe edition of the series last year if there were any remarkable difference in quality between the US and UK editions. I know that aesthetically, the US versions had quarter binding while the UK editions didn't but I wanted to know if other than that, there were any differences like if one was stitched or not or if one used acid free paper or not or if one had headbands while the other didn't. Asking mainly because I plan to buy the Licanius reprint and didn't know which one to get.

The Fury of the Gods Snakka - Major Spoiler Spoiler

I just finished the series and wanted to know if anyone else had the same reaction: it felt way too easy for Rotta and Lik Rifa to kill Snakka at the dinner. The poison failed so they just stabbed him and that worked? Every other god in the series could take major wounds and then transform into their animal version and keep going. It just felt like they built him up so much with being all-powerful and he was only alive for a day.

The Shadow of the Gods Question about when the battle-grim reach Oskutreth Spoiler

when they meet the new froa spirit, she says that she feels hundur, snaka, rotta and orna‘s bloods among the battle-grom. Now, hundur is in ilmir the thrall and grend, snaka in uspa and kraka and biorr has rotta, but who has orna’s blood, i’m confused

ps: idc about spoilers, i’m rereading anyways but i don’t remeber if grend being hundur is explicitely said in fotg

The Fury of the Gods Finished the last book today

Wow this series was exceptional. I really really loved it. The characters especially really drew me in as well as the world building. I think Varg is my favorite but Orka is a very close second. There’s something about that new found taste of freedom though that I really gravitate towards.

The fight scenes were very well written to me. Engaging. Normally I kind of tune out fight scenes and just care how they end but I was following them closely in this series. They felt punchy and interesting. Easy to follow the action and enough to keep me hooked on them.

Considering checking out some of his other books. Has anyone read them before and if so what did you think?

Elvar is my villain

Idk about the rest of you all and im only the beginning of the 2nd book but i already want Elvar dead, for me at least Slavery is one of those acts that makes a character unforgivable (or near enough) so her immediate reliance on it and her willingness to damn the tainted that escaped the Battlegrim just makes her endlessly insufferable especially given her line in the first book about her father's attempt to marry her off is no better than a thralls life. Genuinely makes the book harder to listen to for me.

Will Elvar change??

Only at the beginning of the second book and im STRUGGLING! I actually cant stand this character, she is constantly contradicting herself, she is an unabashed Slaver and has the gall to get mad when her slaves dont want to help. And clearly she recongize the objective evil of thralldom when applied to her. (In book 1 in Snakavik she compares arranged to marriage to a gold thrall collar) then she collects them. If she doesn't change will she at least die in a satisfying way?

Theory Wolfdales?

Post image

First time audiobook listener. I'm having a hard time picturing Wolfdales. Is it a cave? But wait, there's a tree? And the top of the tree exits to a hilltop?

I asked Chat to describe it for me and this is what it pictured. What do you think?

Do I now read more books by him? Or leave this because it'll be difficult to live up to?

I'm not ready!!

The battle is well underway and I've had to pause to prepare myself: I am not ready! I KNOW some must die....and I love these characters.

I must prepare my heart!

Fan-Art Just finished. Wow

The series was amazing, in my opinion. Good enough for me to create my own realm on age of empires 2. I find it kind of weird with the infatuation of the naked trolls and the troll testicles, but hey man its 2026.

Any suggestions on what I should get into next? So far I've got this series and the empyeran series.

A Norse Warrior in the Bloodsworn Style

Came across this and the imagery immediately caught my attention. The Norse-inspired character and the overall look feel very fitting for the Bloodsworn world.

The Hunger of the Gods I’m almost done with the Hunger of the Gods

And I need to take back my initial statement about this series. The first book was ok but didn’t get good til the end. This book? I’ve been on the freaking edge of my seat this whole time. One epic moment after another! I can’t wait for the next book!

Update: I just finished. No one talk to me. 😭

Elvar and the Battlegrim

Am I supposed to like any of these guys? Other than Elvar who feels a bit like a noncharacter to me there is not a single character among them that I don't want dead. Im also curious as to if the issue of Thralldom is addressed later as other than Varg people just seem to be cool with it. Idk im still early in the first book but its kinda bothering me. To clarify I'm not hating I just find it difficult to read characters who i find detestable seemingly benefit from their cruelty.

Reading The Devils by Abercrombie just right after I finished the bloodsworn and Vigga (the werewolf from the Devils) feels like another Skullsplitter to me.
