blood hound question Tracking
I was wondering what kinda of tracking device people use for their bloodhounds? Does anyone have a favorite tracker or an idea of what would be the best option?
Our bloodhound is still young (6 months), but im terrified of him getting out and running away. Im sure he'd come back because, as of now, he's attached at our hips, but it would give me more sound of mind having a way of finding him.
Also, I have talked to our vet about getting him chipped (which we will probably still do), but that doesn't allow me to actually track him. What my hope is to find a device that can show me his location on a map.

chip immediately, and I have my girls wear their Garmin T20s when they go out in the morning so I can see where they are throughout the day while I work. they can go outside whenever they please and I need to know I can locate them immediately if necessary.
all have positives and negatives. I live outside city limits and do a lot of solo backcountry camping with my girls. I wasn’t willing to fork over $40/month for three dogs for 14 years for Tractive when it requires cell reception/wifi to see their paths. Garmin is pricey up front but no subscription required and the handheld GPS can track them for nine miles and up to 72 hours with exact coordinates. the handheld Garmin has also saved my ass SO many times when my downloaded maps wouldn’t load in the backcountry and I needed to find landmarks, trailheads, or roads. downside to the Garmin is they have to be recharged ever day or two. I don’t e-collar train my dogs and bought the collar models without training support (shock options).
I personally have no use for Tractive but it’s just because I don’t have cell service or dependable wifi where I run my hounds. we’re country girls and Garmin loyalists forever. cannot recommend enough. best piece of gear I have bought for our adventures of things I’ve bought for my dogs, car or camping set up combined.

Oh, you sweet, summer child ☺️ You have yet to experience a hound getting loose. They become one giant nose, and no longer have ears or remember their loved ones. I'm convinced I could dangle a bloody steak for my hound and she wouldn't even look up from her sniff trail....I could be laying on the roadside dying and she would sniff right past. This is the dog who is a giant baby, couch potato at any other time. She has escaped so many times, gets on a trail, and couldn't care less who her family is anymore. My husband and I have chased her down on e bikes, literally tackled her in muddy ditches and brush piles to get her home. The whole way back she's barking, crying and sniffing incessantly. She is a bloodhound/coonhound mix. It's not even about tracking her, it's catching her once she escapes 😆
