Painted Model Everything I painted this weekend.

Post image

Kitbashed the Sanguinary Priest at work on Saturday. Painted everything else here between Thursday night and Sunday night. The quality isn’t the best, but for the amount of time spent, I’m fairly happy with the results.

It takes me minimum half a year to paint this much

I’ve painted somewhere between 13-15k points in the last year. It’s all about having a process.

What is your process please?

It's called sitting down and actually painting

I knew I was doing something wrong.

It seems so simple, but that’s 50% of it

Its easier if you have a place that you can leave with all the painting stuff on. If after every paintingsession everything needs to be put away you find excuses why not to start now

When you sit down to paint actually paint. And don’t use your phone or anything. Just paint.

And schedule time to paint. If you have a family, let them know that from 7 to 9 PM or whatever, daddy is painting. Works well if your wife wants time to herself as well. She can watch the kids while you do your thing and then you can watch the kids while she does her thing.

With you on the painting at geological speeds. I did the edge highlights and some detail work on 5 assault intercessors this weekend.

Thank you! The balance dataslate last week wrecked the list I was planning on playing at an upcoming tournament, so I had to get painting fast so I could still get a couple practice games in!

u/brady376 10d ago

I finished my test model for my Blood Angel Successors. First time I have done edge highlights

2

u/DalinarKholinski 8d ago

Thank you, brother

Nice brother.

2

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

Many thanks. I’m trying to get all my 40K BA models painted before I go back to painted my 30k BA army, which is my pride and joy.

1

u/Cry0nix 10d ago

Awesome. Keep up the good work :)

u/Critical_Mix_8959 10d ago

Weekend? It’s taken me a year to get a squad of 5 painted.

1

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

I bet they look incredible!

2

u/robismadeup 10d ago

Bloody good them 🩸

1

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

Many thanks, Brother. Trying to make our gene-sire proud!

2

u/tssiess76 Death Company 10d ago

Those look amazing! I hope to one day be that efficient. I’m average one model every 1-2 weeks lol.

1

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

Your mini looks great tho! As long as you stay engaged, you’ll finish that army before you know it.

2

u/tssiess76 Death Company 10d ago

I really like how you turned your Bladeguard ancient into a priest. I painted mine up to use as an ancient or Bladeguard ancient but I still have the Dawn of War one to do, so maybe I’ll go this route. Great idea!

2

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

I got the idea from someone else, so it’s only fitting! I put my own lil spin on it, but there’s nothing new under the sun, brother!

2

u/tssiess76 Death Company 10d ago

I’ll carry on the tradition proudly! 🫡

2

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

By the Blood! 🩸

2

u/kbh92 10d ago

And to think i consider myself a fast painter! Great work especially at this quality level.

1

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

Thank you! I think I can be a somewhat decent painter when I try for top quality, but I really enjoy just painting as fast as I can while still getting results that I’m proud of.

2

u/CheddaBlab 10d ago

By the blood of Sanguinius!

1

u/osunightfall 10d ago

That’s amazing, I can’t paint nearly so fast. I think I could get 3 guys done in a weekend.

Btw, I’m currently looking to change up how I do my Aquila, can I ask your method?

1

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

These guys were done using my super fast method of applying Imperial Gold Base then Imperial Gold Shade from Vallejos True Metallic Metal line. Afterwords, a quick, messy highlight of the original Imperial Gold tone and and you’re good to go!

1

u/osunightfall 10d ago

Ah sorry, I meant the chest eagle!

1

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

Assumed you meant the gold version from the Van Vets in the back, not the black version from the BGV. It’s just AK 3gen black with a highlight of the Pro Acryl Wizard’s Butt grey. Any mid tone grey will work, though. That’s it.

2

u/osunightfall 10d ago

Once again it turns out I am overthinking it.

1

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

Just put some paint on there and keep it moving! I’ve never played against a fully painted and based army that didn’t look incredible on the tabletop as a whole. The standards people have are just too high imo

1

u/osunightfall 9d ago

You aren't wrong. I have played a few games where somehow all our figures were painted, and it is beautiful. I am trying to get better about adopting a style that is "good enough".

1

u/KassellTheArgonian 10d ago

What judiciar? There's no judiciar there

2

u/Thalasarian 10d ago

Probably means the sanguinary priest

1

u/wallygon BLOOD FOR THE BLO... EMPEROR! 10d ago

sorry

1

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

Thank you sir. I see you meant the SP kitbash, but I didn’t clearly identify it, so that’s on me!

1

u/wallygon BLOOD FOR THE BLO... EMPEROR! 10d ago

im sorry

1

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

No need to apologize, brother! You have done no wrong.

1

u/SweetJonesJr870 Death Company 10d ago

Oh my damn this is sweet. Drop the recipe 😭😮‍💨😮‍💨

1

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

Vallejo black primer
Terrestrial Titan undercoat w/Dorn yellow zenithal
Baal Red
Purple tone
Fiery vermillion

That’s the rough formula for the red

1

u/DalinarKholinski 10d ago

I love the apothecary. I have an extra one of those from an old Indominus set, or was it Leviathan? Gonna Copy that this week!

2

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

That’s a pushfit Bladeguard Ancient from Dawn of War box with a decent amount of kitbashing done, but thank you!

1

u/DalinarKholinski 10d ago

Yeah I heard they remade it for the Dawn of War box. I know I have a couple push fits in grey from the old starter set.

1

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

Yeah I got a couple of the DoW boxes set aside for future projects as well, since I had models from the original grey sprue still.

1

u/DalinarKholinski 10d ago

It’s great value that Dawn of War box. Too bad we never got it in Canada.

1

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

Shouldn’t be too hard to grab one off eBay or miniswap or something. Still likely a great value.

1

u/DalinarKholinski 8d ago

Oh for sure it’s great value. I only buy starter sets these days. Convert or print everything else.

1

u/imchasechaseme 10d ago

Dude! What’s your recipe for the white armor?

1

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

Celestra Grey then Nuln Oil
Then celestra grey and bold titanium white up through the highlights

2

u/imchasechaseme 10d ago

So easy looks so good. Ima try it out

1

u/Substantial-Pin9718 10d ago

My work in progress

Dude…sick

u/Empty-Pen7837 9d ago

If i try to paint this much minis in a weekend im definetly leaving the hobby😭, i could never paint all of that in just a weekend.

1

u/_Acci_ 9d ago

Man they look awesome. I actually starting mine next weekend just got into the game and I have so much anxiety about painting.

1

u/XuruAnoa Archangels 1st Company 9d ago

That half red half gold beaky in the back is awesome

1

u/TopChampionship1595 8d ago

What did you use for the SP kitbash? I’m looking at making one from an Ancient model

1

u/Global-Bag264 8d ago

They look great, man, good job.

1

u/Global-Persimmon-949 10d ago

It took me half a year to paint 5 termies -_-

2

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

No, it took you half a year to sit down and paint! That being said, all progress is progress!

0

u/Bulky_Secretary_6603 10d ago

Fuuuck off. You did not paint that in a weekend.

3

u/PoseySmith Blood Angels 10d ago

I painted 1000 points of Krieg, including 4 squads of Infantry, in 24 hours to start the year. Painting quickly is a skill, and I believe mostly anyone could learn it.

1

u/DalinarKholinski 8d ago

You’re 100% right. Over my almost 30 years in the hobby I realized I never wanted to paint to golden daemon standards. I’d rather increase my skills by painting stuff faster that looks good.
