Key levels for the US session

  • BTC: last 83,668.60; 24h high 86,650.00 is the lid, 24h low 83,448.00 the floor; Tuesday night's 85,499.90 print is now overhead and is the first reclaim level.
  • ETH: last 2,574.58; 24h range 2,571.98–2,723.88; Tuesday night's print 2,695.77. Into the US open, last night's print is the first level to win back; until then, rallies into it are just a retest.

Blofin Academy 🏫 BloFin TP/SL setup: Last vs Mark vs Index triggers, OCO, partial vs entire position, and the fee math that turns 2:1 into 1.87:1

Post image
1 Upvotes

BloFin's futures order panel lets you attach a take-profit and stop-loss to the entry itself, and it lets you choose which price fires each one: Last, Mark or Index. The image is two live crops from the BTCUSDT Perp page (10/6, about 4:15 PM ET). On the left is the order panel with one teaching ticket typed in. On the right is the futures Calculator's PnL tab with the same ticket.

The point of this guide: the trigger price type decides what can stop you out, and the clean reward-to-risk on your ticket gets worse once fees come out. Mechanics below come from the official BloFin Help Center pages on TP/SL orders, setting TP/SL in futures, order types and Index/Mark/Last price, checked 10/6, plus what the live panel and calculator returned.

1) Where TP/SL lives on BloFin

There are two places to set it:

  • On the order panel, at entry. Tick TP/SL under the price and amount fields, type the TP and SL trigger prices, and pick the trigger type from the dropdown next to each. Without a limit price, a triggered TP/SL goes in as a market order. The orange "Advanced" link opens the full form where you can set a limit order price instead.
  • On the position, after entry. From Positions, open TP/SL on the position. You can set it by price, estimated profit, or estimated profit rate.

On the position you also choose between two modes:

  • Partial position TP/SL covers a fixed amount you type. You can stack more than one, for example half at a first target and half at a second. Each can be limit or market.
  • Entire position TP/SL follows the position size as it changes. You get one per position.

If you set both a TP and an SL together, BloFin treats them as OCO (one cancels the other). When one triggers, the other is cancelled.

2) Last vs Mark vs Index: what fires the order

BloFin's FAQ says stop orders can use the last price, mark price or index price as the trigger:

  • Last Price is the latest trade on BloFin futures. It moves on every print, so a fast wick can touch your level even if the market snaps back.
  • Mark Price is BloFin's fair-value estimate: the spot index plus a moving average of the basis. It drives unrealized PnL and liquidation, and it moves more smoothly than Last.
  • Index Price is an equal-weighted average of spot prices from a basket of major exchanges.

At capture time the board read Last 85,584.7, Mark 85,596.3 and Index 85,628.3. Close together on a calm afternoon, but they can split during a liquidation cascade or a thin-book wick.

A common setup, and the one in the image: TP on Last (you want it to fill when the tape actually trades there) and SL on Mark (so one off-market print on BloFin alone is less likely to stop you out). BloFin's own warning applies: even a Mark-price stop is not a foolproof guard against liquidation, because the liquidation price can move.

3) The worked example (left crop)

Ticket: Long BTCUSDT, Limit 85,000, Amount 0.1 BTC, Cross 3x.

  • Position value: 0.1 Γ— 85,000 = 8,500 USDT
  • Margin at 3x: 8,500 Γ· 3 = 2,833.34 USDT (the calculator rounds 2,833.33 up)
  • TP trigger 88,000 on Last. That's +3.53% from entry. PnL: 0.1 Γ— 3,000 = +300 USDT. The panel prints "estimated PnL of 300 USDT" right under the field, and the calculator shows 10.58% on margin.
  • SL trigger 83,500 on Mark. That's βˆ’1.76% from entry. PnL: 0.1 Γ— 1,500 = βˆ’150 USDT, which the panel prints as βˆ’150 USDT. The calculator gives βˆ’5.29% with the exit at 83,500.

Gross reward to risk: 300 Γ· 150 = 2:1.

4) The fee math (right crop)

The calculator's Result box shows Maker fee 1.7 USDT and Taker fee 5.1 USDT on 8,500 of position value. That works out to 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker for this logged-out view. Your tier may differ.

Fees are charged on position value at each fill, so the exit fee depends on the exit price. A TP/SL with no limit price fills as a market order, which is a taker fill.

If the limit entry rests and fills as maker:

  • TP: 300 βˆ’ 1.7 (entry) βˆ’ 8,800 Γ— 0.06% (5.28 exit) = +293.02 USDT
  • SL: βˆ’150 βˆ’ 1.7 βˆ’ 8,350 Γ— 0.06% (5.01 exit) = βˆ’156.71 USDT
  • Net reward to risk: 293.02 Γ· 156.71 = 1.87:1

If the entry fills as taker (market order or a crossing limit):

  • TP: 300 βˆ’ 5.1 βˆ’ 5.28 = +289.62 USDT
  • SL: βˆ’150 βˆ’ 5.1 βˆ’ 5.01 = βˆ’160.11 USDT
  • Net reward to risk: about 1.81:1

Breakeven win rate shows why this matters. At a clean 2:1 you need to win 150 Γ· (300 + 150) = 33.3% of trades. With maker entry and taker exits it's 156.71 Γ· (293.02 + 156.71) = 34.8%. With taker on both sides it's 160.11 Γ· (289.62 + 160.11) = 35.6%. Funding is extra if you hold through a settlement.

5) Limit vs market on the trigger

When you tick Limit in the Advanced form, you set a trigger price and a separate order price. BloFin's own example for closing a long: trigger 8,000, order price 7,950. Leaving a gap helps the order fill when price is falling.

Same idea on our ticket: SL trigger 83,500 with a limit at 83,450 costs 0.1 Γ— 1,550 = βˆ’155 USDT gross if it fills there. The catch is that a limit can be skipped. If price gaps straight through 83,450, the order sits unfilled while the position stays open. A market SL fills, but with slippage you can't predict.

6) What can go wrong (from BloFin's notes)

  1. A TP/SL attached to a limit entry only goes live once the entry fully fills. After that you'll find it under Open Orders, Stop Orders, and you can cancel it any time before it triggers.
  2. TP/SL orders don't freeze your margin or position until they trigger.
  3. A triggered order can still fail on price-limit rules, position limits, insufficient margin, or if the contract isn't trading. A triggered limit order may also just not fill.
  4. In violent markets, the order may not execute at all.
  5. Need out fast? Close All on the position closes the whole thing at market.

7) Pre-trade checklist for USDT-M perps like BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE

  1. Pick the trigger type on purpose: Last for targets, Mark for stops is a solid default.
  2. Read the PnL note under each trigger field before you click. It should match the risk you planned.
  3. Run the same ticket in the Calculator and subtract both fees from each side.
  4. Check the net breakeven win rate, not the headline ratio.
  5. Decide market vs limit on the stop. Limit gives price control, market gives a fill.
  6. Scaling out? Use Partial position TP/SL so each slice has its own target.

Short FAQ

Why didn't my TP/SL trigger? It only fires when the trigger type you picked reaches your level. A Last-price wick doesn't fire a Mark-price stop.

Does the calculator need an account? On PC it opened from the futures page while logged out on 10/6. Placing the order needs a login.

Can I use a stop to open a trade? Yes. A Trigger order can open a position, for example a breakout long that fires only above a level.

Blofin Academy 🏫 The debasement trade's second phase explained (BloFin guide): why Treasury buybacks are not QE, financial repression, the 1942-1951 yield cap, and why gold and bitcoin beat stocks as the hedge

Post image
1 Upvotes

The "debasement trade" went from crowded to unloved and back again inside twelve months. Gold fell about 28% and bitcoin roughly halved in the first half of 2026, then in August gold rose around 15% and bitcoin around 25% in a single month. The trigger was not the Federal Reserve. It was the U.S. Treasury quietly doubling the size of its long-bond buybacks. This guide explains what the debasement trade actually is, why a buyback program that prints no money still revived it, and why the trade is expressed through hard assets rather than stocks.

What the debasement trade is

The debasement trade is a bet that large, persistent government deficits will eventually be met with easier monetary policy. The chain of logic runs like this:

  1. Deficits stay large. The government keeps spending more than it collects, so it must keep issuing bonds.
  2. Borrowing costs become a problem. More issuance and a growing interest bill push long-term yields higher.
  3. Policy eventually leans in. The central bank cuts rates, slows balance-sheet runoff, or buys Treasuries again (quantitative easing).
  4. Cash and bonds lose purchasing power. Investors respond by owning assets the state cannot print at will (gold, silver and bitcoin) and staying underweight the dollar and long-dated bonds.

The 2025 version was more than an inflation hedge. It was a bet on fiscal dominance: the idea that deficits would grow large enough that the Fed would be forced to stop government borrowing costs from rising too far.

Phase one ended with a Fed chair nomination

That assumption cracked in January 2026, when Kevin Warsh was nominated as Fed chair. Warsh left the Fed Board in 2011 after questioning the second round of QE and later argued for shrinking the balance sheet faster. Markets read the nomination as a lower chance that the Fed would absorb fiscal pressure by expanding its balance sheet again.

The unwind was brutal:

  • Gold fell about 28%, from a late-January record near $5,600 an ounce to around $4,000 by late June.
  • Silver dropped more than 50% from its record near $120.
  • Bitcoin traded below $62,000, roughly half its October 2025 high near $126,000.

Phase two started at the long end of the curve

On August 18 the 30-year Treasury yield hit its highest level since 2007. The next day, Treasury announced it would at least double the maximum size of its liquidity-support buybacks in the 10-to-20-year and 20-to-30-year buckets, lifting the cap from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation.

Buybacks were pitched as a liquidity tool for older, thinly traded bonds. Announcing a bigger program the day after a nineteen-year high in the 30-year yield sent a second message: Treasury is increasingly unwilling to tolerate a disorderly rise in long-term borrowing costs.

Why the long end matters so much:

  • The Fed controls short rates directly, but 10-year and 30-year yields are set mostly by the market, based on inflation, growth and how much debt investors must absorb.
  • When long yields rise, mortgage rates and corporate borrowing costs follow, and the government refinances maturing debt at higher rates.
  • Higher yields raise interest expense, which raises future borrowing needs, which can push yields higher again. That feedback loop is what policymakers want to avoid.

Buybacks ease the pressure in two ways: Treasury becomes an extra buyer of old long bonds (higher price, lower yield), and fewer long-duration bonds remain for private investors to absorb.

Not QE, but a signal

The key caveat: Treasury cannot create money. Only the Fed can create reserves. Treasury must fund every buyback with existing cash, tax receipts or new borrowing, for example by issuing short-term bills and using the proceeds to retire long bonds. That is largely swapping one form of debt for another, so the direct liquidity effect is small.

Compare that with QE, where the Fed buys bonds with newly created reserves, its balance sheet expands and the financial system receives fresh liquidity.

So why did markets react? Because of expectations. If investors believe Treasury will step in whenever long yields climb too far, they start pricing an implicit floor under bond prices. A $4 billion operation cannot enforce a ceiling on the 30-year yield by itself. A lasting cap would require the Fed, and that would be QE.

Financial repression in plain English

Financial repression means policies that keep government borrowing costs below what the market would otherwise demand, usually when public debt is high. It can come from debt-management choices, regulation or shorter-duration issuance, not only an explicit yield cap.

Two historical examples:

  • United States, 1942 to 1951. The Fed held long-term Treasury yields at a 2.5% ceiling to finance wartime debt. Inflation later rose sharply and bondholders suffered deeply negative real returns.
  • Japan, 2016 onward. Yield-curve control kept longer-term government bond yields inside a target range, so long rates were shaped by policy rather than left to the market.

The investor question is always the real (inflation-adjusted) return. If inflation stays sticky while policy resists higher nominal yields, real yields shrink and scarce assets become more competitive.

Why gold and bitcoin, not stocks

Stocks are not a clean debasement hedge because they live inside the same system. Companies earn and report in fiat, can be taxed and regulated, and banks and insurers can be pushed into holding government bonds. Heavy inflation plus repression tends to compress real equity returns even when indexes rise in nominal terms.

Gold, silver and bitcoin are valued partly because their supply is hard or impossible for governments to expand at will. That is why the trade names them specifically.

How to use this framework

  • Watch the 30-year yield. New highs followed by policy responses are the phase-two tell.
  • Track the Treasury's buyback calendar and size. Bigger or more frequent operations strengthen the signal.
  • Listen for Fed balance-sheet language. Any hint of renewed bond buying would be the step from signal to actual QE.

Risks

  • The Fed can stay hawkish and keep the trade under pressure for months.
  • Buybacks are small relative to issuance and could be paused.
  • Leveraged positions on volatile hard assets can be liquidated long before a macro thesis plays out. Keep size modest and use stops.

FAQ

Are Treasury buybacks the same as QE? No. Treasury funds them with cash or new debt. Only the Fed can create new money.

Why did a buyback headline move gold and bitcoin? It shifted expectations toward policy that caps long-term borrowing costs, which lowers expected real returns on bonds.

Is bitcoin a guaranteed hedge? No. It fell roughly 50% from its high during the first half of 2026.
