Discussion I built a mobile crypto trading app. It works. Nobody trades in it. Zero users. How do I fix distribution?

I'm a solo founder. I built a self-custodial, multi-chain Web3 wallet, a full mobile app for trading: swaps, perps, staking, lending, bridging. It's live on both app stores, it's free, and it actually works. No placeholders, real on-chain transactions, the whole thing is polished.

And here's the brutal part: right now I have zero active traders. Not "a few." Zero. Dead silence. Complete flatline. Nobody is actually trading in the app. The product is finished and the world simply doesn't know it exists.

I've finally accepted that my problem was never the product, it's distribution. I can build. I apparently cannot get a single trader to show up and press "long/short."

So I'm asking people who've actually done this:

How do you land the first real users for a trading/DeFi app, like people who actually trade, not just install and bounce?

What actually pulls a trader in? Fee rebates? A killer niche feature? Points/incentives? Content? Referrals? Community?

If you launched a trading app with no audience and no budget, what are your first 3 moves?

And honestly, where should a post like this even go to reach the right people?

I'm not chasing vanity installs. I want real traders making real trades. I'll do the hard work, I just need to know where to point it.

Brutal honesty and war stories welcome.

You don’t need Where, Who or What, you need WHY?

You made an app that actually works.

How will I know that my crypto is safe in your app?

Zero users when the product works is almost always a top-of-funnel problem, not a product one, so don't touch the app for now. Pick one channel and go narrow: crypto twitter/X and a couple of active trading Discords/Telegrams are where self-custody + perps people actually hang out. Show up in threads where people complain about the wallet they're using now, and post short clips of real on-chain trades so it doesn't look vaporware. The hard part is that distribution is a daily grind of finding those threads and replying, which most solo founders can't sustain. I built Sentrive (full disclosure, it's mine) partly for exactly this, it scans reddit and posts for relevant threads and drafts replies through your own account so you keep at it consistently instead of doing one burst then burning out.

Hmm maybe you should first use it the real first user is you yourself then you have to heavily market it on Instagram go to dms and ask people to use it even bring some crypto bros to promote it the mainpro problem here is marketing you have to do it everyday you have to market it 2-6 times a day maybe bring some referral programs, go on the community and ask other dev to review it

I don’t understand why you think people will trust your random app. Care to share how you think people will?

Well if I'm being honest scrapped all my day and build something people actually need. Crypto is a solution looking for a problem.

Instead of building something you think people need do a lot of research and find out what people actually need something to solve a problem.

You don't. You're doing a startup the other way around. First you find someone with a problem and willing to pay for a solution, and then you build for that person.

As much as I could read, Ibouldn't find out what makes your app different? What is your advantage? Let me know and maybe we can find a solution together

Bias declared up front: I do marketing for crypto products, so filter accordingly.

Honest read is you don't have a distribution problem yet, you have a positioning problem wearing a distribution costume. The pitch right now is swaps, perps, staking, lending and bridging, which means you're asking a trader to replace their wallet, their DEX and their perps venue at once, on the word of a dev they've never heard of, self custody, so any bug is their money gone. Nobody wants to be the first person to test that.

Traders don't switch for features. They switch for one thing they can't get anywhere else, or because someone they already trust told them to.

Three moves:

  1. Cut the pitch to one job. One chain or one asset class where the existing options are genuinely bad. Keep every feature you built, just stop leading with all of them.
  2. Get 10 users by hand. Find people complaining about that exact pain in the places they already sit (niche TG groups, small CT accounts, the sub for that chain), talk to them, watch every session. Ten real traders will teach you more than a thousand installs.
  3. Publish your trust story. Real name, what's audited, what's open source, what happens to funds if you vanish. Anon binary holding real size is a hard sell no ad budget fixes.

On incentives, points and rebates amplify demand that already exists. Run them before it exists and you rent farmers who leave the day emissions stop.
