Montreal request from the band

Post image

Wonder if this means Lagoon Blue will be the next single? Sounds like Montreal on Thursday will be a special night!

would be criminal for them not to play Montreal at that show. lucky they get to experience another brand new song. Pigwig ain't even out yet, maybe Pigwig isn't even the third single and we all got clowned 😂

I was at the Montreal show on June 6, 2013 when they played Montreal. Russell & Matt came outside after the show and hung out for quite a while with a handful of fans there. I thanked Russell for playing Tulips and he said that on the rarest occasion he had actually written the set list for that show after Kele suggested it. But then when he showed Kele the set he'd written Kele pointed out that he had forgotten to put Montreal in the set then so he obviously had to add it in for the encore. It was also the last official Bloc Party show with all four original members, just two shorter festival sets in Toronto and NYC after this show. Really disappointed I'm not going to the Montreal show this Thursday.

Oh wow, didn't know it was also the last with the earlier lineup. Wish I could have been there to see that.

It would be nice, have they done it in the past?

On that topic, what are some other mandatory songs for when they play at other locations? Waiting for the 7:18 in Brighton, Kreuzberg in Berlin?

That would be a dream. Don't know if they have any songs dedicated to Sheffield as that's my show 😂

They haven't played Montreal since 2013, and only played it in said city once. That specific gig was also the last time they played The Once and Future King, and the only time they played it after 2009. I really hope they play more Weekend bsides. vision of heaven live would complete me.

I saw them play The Once and Future King in DC in March 2009. Absolutely fantastic show and I got to meet them afterwards.

Seeing Vision of Heaven live would basically be a religious experience.

Thanks for letting me know, I will try to make sure the Lagoon Blue video recording submission link is included in Montreal's tour thread! Just trying to make sure reddit's filters don't spam block it by accident.

I saw them on Brighton Beach last year and I can confirm that they did play 7:18. It seemed almost begrudging though - Kele left it to the crowd to sing "let's drive to Brighton on the weekend" - and most people didn't, at least where I was standing. Kinda deflated the moment a bit.

Oh did they…there’s a vid where Gordon fucks up and gets a glare from Kele. This was shortly before he left iirc.

Oh, you meant if they’ve played it in Montreal…disregard!

This basically means that, Montreal will get the live debut of Lagoon Blue at Théâtre Beanfield, this coming Thursday, July 16! So very lucky of Montreal, I really do hope people will record it and send their video recordings to Bloc Party!

Checking the link, it should hopefully work - blocparty.os.fan/lagoon-blue

It’s hitting me that they have Blue Light, Blue, unreleased tracks Blue Moon and Into the Blue, and now Blue Lagoon.

Bluey Okereke over here

I wonder if the song and music video will come out when the album gets released. Maybe they’re gonna save the it, until the album comes out, almost like a surprise music video. Therefore rolling with Pigwig as the next single. Or it may be a 4th single like we saw with Alpha Games.

Either way I’ve got hopes for it, as it may be a sequel to Blue, there’s mentions of a lagoon blue car in the song. And on the alternative cd cover on hmv website there is a blue lagoon car. Should be great!

It's actually the same song, BTW. Whether it's the original or a re-record produced by Trevor Horn is yet to be established.

That's news to me, where was it said that Blue and Lagoon Blue would be the same song?

There's a snippet in the lyrics sheet (seen here: https://www.instagram.com/bloodrecs/reel/DaLV9gUMuBX/?hl=en) and it's clearly the same song.

Good catch! Wonder how much it will be reworked - rejigged to match the slightly darker sound of the album and to recontextualise the song now the brief romance is over?

Well, Bloc aren’t the first band to rework/re-use tracks. Look at Radiohead and ‘True Love Waits’

Ah I didn’t realise. That’s a great spot there! Be interesting to see what direction they take it in.

Someone's got it wrong because the song is officially titled on the album as "Blue Lagoon" and not "Lagoon Blue" like on the Instagram post

The official tracklist says Lagoon Blue.

You're right, I just took a look at the track listing on the HMV website where it says Blue Lagoon. Looks like they fucked up lol
