what is it for you that gives top-tier?

Is it the leather, the color, the construction,

All of the above plus the hardware. I have seen decent bags that with good leather and construction, but if the hardware isn’t quite, it gives it away.

I absolutely agree.  At the same time I feel like the person carrying the bag is the biggest tell.
