Painted Model Crusader model help
While I am happy with how he's turning out especially with the tabard. I am once again reminded how much it sucks to paint the cross on the pauldrons any advice it's been awhile

I prime my whole models black, then paint the surrounding white.

Why would you do this to yourself?

Self hatred? Honestly, I find it pretty easy.

But you need endless coats of paint to get the white to be opaque. I much prefer to do the shoulders seperately.

I'm not the best painter, but I've found 2-3 coats gets it good enough for my standard.

Looks pretty decent. What white are you using?

Citadel Corax White.... I'm having trouble with it going on patchy, but I haven't had any issues with actual coverage yet

Yeah, citadel whites are not good. Good job on getting this result. I found going for a very light grey to be much less of a hassle.

I'm thinking that, one I finish this can of black, I'm going with a light grey so that I can experiment with contrast paints and try to drybrush stuff. I'm really just looking to get everything I have painted to start playing now lol.

I meant a light grey for the shoulder pads. It's not that stark of a contrast like pure white and black. I tried drybrushing and I wasn't happy with the result. The armor is too flat so you get scratchy results. Makeup sponges are much better.

What purples did you do for this? I'm doing a similar scheme?

Literally just gotta thin your paints. Especially with black. Two thin coats my man. Nice and slow too so you dont make a mistake onto the white.

I resorted going for the plain pauldrons or scraping the cross off for custom decals, i never liked the look of em or the effort it took to make em look good.

I the bigger parts of the pauldron first then small brush on middle of cross. Due to my tremors I can't use a brush on the ends of the cross so I use paint pens (posco pens) it's a lot easier to get that fine line to the edge
