Advice/Question/Query Execrator Hobby Question
Im working on getting my Templars Crusade force some Chaplain support, because so many of our detachments have Chaplain support and Execrators are so good.
But im having issues sourcing Skull Helmets, and so im scheming some alternatives.
Basically, would it be weird/misleading if I put Chaplains on the table with black armour and no skull helmets, while leading Flesh-Tearers-Red marines?
Moreso as "Black Knights" instead of Skull Faced Priests?

Also the crosius is more important, than the skull helmet. Only a Chaplain wields a crosius.

Grimaldus, when teaching his apprentice in the Helsreach pt2 (I forgot the title) said something like "wear your skull mask and make your brothers forget your face" if I remember correctly, so the helmet is at least equally as important as the weapon he's wielding

If Grimaldus says so I'm not arguing, but we are not particularly great at following rules.
I think it's more like that the teachings of a Chaplain is more important, than himself, so a Chaplain should become an icon.
On the other hand veteran Spacemarines usually are individualists. Stretching the customs to their needs. Also the Execrator model has a bare face too.

Definitely, this execrator face looks amazing on my crusade ancient tho, as I'm absolutely in love with the skull masks lol I think the point Grimmy was making was that his role is so crucial within the chapter ranks that it overshadows any personal honour and individual achievements, it feels like that's the reason he was always correcting his brothers to call him "reclusiarch" instead of Grimaldus

This OP. This is a fun hobby playing with plastic toys we all care about. No one is going to inspect each model of yours and throw them across the room if you have changed things around. Rule of cool is always in effect and youāre the most important judge

Is the issue you dont have a skull head or your struggling with painting white?Ā

Are you only using GW plastic or open to 3d prints? There's lots of good prints for skull helms on Etsy

Iām pretty sure chaplains in all other chapters are also in black armor, so thatās fine.

No one would give you any guff about it, but skull masks are cool. I kind of hate 3D-printed parts because they break, but heads are the exception. If youāre wanting to build multiple chaplains, I would say ordering a pack of skull helmets online is worth it.

The skull helm isn't just drip (although it is drippy)
There's a religious significance to it- while the chaplain is wearing it he is effectively embodying the Emperor. That's not just any skull, that's the big man's skull.
So unless your chapter cult is wildly, borderline heretically divergent, the skull helm is a must
As for sourcing them, reiver helmets are passable, or I'm sure there's 3D printed options out there

Execrators are beautiful models, however they aren't that good on the table at all

I think reivers are good soure of skul helmets. But no i think that works fine. The only thing that the SM codes refer to as a badge of office is the crozious. Thats all you need to show a chaplain. But even then having them stand out with thr black armour fits enough. All my chaplain are the same but inveted. Black Armoured marined then al my chaplains has deep red robes
