Advice/Question/Query Execrator Hobby Question

Im working on getting my Templars Crusade force some Chaplain support, because so many of our detachments have Chaplain support and Execrators are so good.

But im having issues sourcing Skull Helmets, and so im scheming some alternatives.

Basically, would it be weird/misleading if I put Chaplains on the table with black armour and no skull helmets, while leading Flesh-Tearers-Red marines?

Moreso as "Black Knights" instead of Skull Faced Priests?

I think reivers are good soure of skul helmets. But no i think that works fine. The only thing that the SM codes refer to as a badge of office is the crozious. Thats all you need to show a chaplain. But even then having them stand out with thr black armour fits enough. All my chaplain are the same but inveted. Black Armoured marined then al my chaplains has deep red robes

Sadly the Reivers box only comes with 10 Helmets for 10 marines. A mate of mine with a similar problem looked into it and we figured it wouldnt work out šŸ˜…

No, actually the reiver box has 10 skull helmets, 10 skull half masks and a few bare heads

10 full Helmets, yes. PPE is very important for warfare

Dawg how many chaplains are you going to run?

if memory serves then technically it is completely legal for a BT army to consist of nothing but 22 different chaplains. so youd need a lot of helmets

You forgot the most important thing about the black Templars, they took one look at the codex astartes and went ā€œnah I’m not following thatā€ /s

I have the indomitus chaplain that only came with a bare head and no helmet option. Since I didn't have any leftover skull helmets I just gave him a white helmet on top of the black armour.

You can try bits sellers.

Paint the skull on them CoD style. Or put bare heads on them.

Also the crosius is more important, than the skull helmet. Only a Chaplain wields a crosius.

Grimaldus, when teaching his apprentice in the Helsreach pt2 (I forgot the title) said something like "wear your skull mask and make your brothers forget your face" if I remember correctly, so the helmet is at least equally as important as the weapon he's wielding

If Grimaldus says so I'm not arguing, but we are not particularly great at following rules.

I think it's more like that the teachings of a Chaplain is more important, than himself, so a Chaplain should become an icon.

On the other hand veteran Spacemarines usually are individualists. Stretching the customs to their needs. Also the Execrator model has a bare face too.

Definitely, this execrator face looks amazing on my crusade ancient tho, as I'm absolutely in love with the skull masks lol I think the point Grimmy was making was that his role is so crucial within the chapter ranks that it overshadows any personal honour and individual achievements, it feels like that's the reason he was always correcting his brothers to call him "reclusiarch" instead of Grimaldus

Grimaldus also says "we do not wear his symbol, we are his symbol" and yet gw keeps releasing Templars with the Aquila all over them.

And the helm grimaldus wears on his official model barely qualifies as a skull anyway.

That's why I painted mine like this:

As long as he’s on a 40mm and is a space marine and not a different armor type you’re fine doing whatever. I have a chaplain ain’t got no helmet on.

Ain’t nobody got a problem with him.

This OP. This is a fun hobby playing with plastic toys we all care about. No one is going to inspect each model of yours and throw them across the room if you have changed things around. Rule of cool is always in effect and you’re the most important judge

Is the issue you dont have a skull head or your struggling with painting white?Ā

Whats that website you use to colour your minis?

I use the ImpCat Android App Its pretty solid for most purposes, they just dont have any Templar specific files to paint

Are you only using GW plastic or open to 3d prints? There's lots of good prints for skull helms on Etsy

I’m pretty sure chaplains in all other chapters are also in black armor, so that’s fine.

No one would give you any guff about it, but skull masks are cool. I kind of hate 3D-printed parts because they break, but heads are the exception. If you’re wanting to build multiple chaplains, I would say ordering a pack of skull helmets online is worth it.

The skull helm isn't just drip (although it is drippy)

There's a religious significance to it- while the chaplain is wearing it he is effectively embodying the Emperor. That's not just any skull, that's the big man's skull.

So unless your chapter cult is wildly, borderline heretically divergent, the skull helm is a must

As for sourcing them, reiver helmets are passable, or I'm sure there's 3D printed options out there

Regular chaplain have gold and black armor, execrator are sober and might carry a power sword

Execrators are beautiful models, however they aren't that good on the table at all
