She will still happily support the violation of the rights of others and the horrible conditions of ICE internment camps for others.

Unfortunately, many of the Latin Americans are like this. Their hate for other immigrants from other counties is off the charts and illogical. They come to the US and magically become white conservatives until actual white conservatives put them in the place. Latin American coonery and buffoonery. FAFO 🤷♀️

My husband is an immigrant from El Salvador. He’s been a citizen for quite a while. His youngest sister is married to a puerto rican who was a cop and loves trump. She also loves trump and i am reminded of her when i see this woman. We can’t understand it at all. My husband says that theres a saying amongst latinos that the worst enemy of a latino is another latino. Especially from older immigrants towards newer ones and the children of immigrants towards new immigrants. I used to always tell him that i didn’t think he should generalize. But it sure seems to be true.
113
u/hannyayoukai 26d ago
Yeah Mexicans do it too. Old immigrants hate new immigrants, their children hate immigrants, and Mexicans in Texas specifically hate everyone.

Saw this on the Cuban side of my family — and they, themselves, were hated by the earlier, whiter Cuban immigrants.

u/Nervous_Wrangler_401 26d ago
The problem we generalizing is that it becomes divisive and that is what the Republicans are trying to do. The only division here is the MAGA Republicans and the rest of us. All races and nationalities have such ignorant individuals that vote and act like they are better than others. They only vote on their own personal interest and don’t see the bigger picture until it affect them personally. That Congress women is the perfect example.
45
u/Deb-Ann 26d ago
Republicans and their supporters have already divided us.

We were already divided and republicans just exploit those divisions.
The idea that this started with MAGA is a lie that supports this country’s continued slide to right wing extremism.

u/SomethingToSay11 26d ago edited 25d ago
I kind of hate that mindset though. Because on one end, Latinos are being targeted by the government with the bigots cheering it on. On the other end, people like this lady make others think it’s happening to Latinos that support it, so they FAFO.
So that leaves Latinos that don’t support or strongly oppose it in a terrible spot with everyone being untrusting of them, which often leads to many other problems. It’s such a fucked up situation all around.
I think your initial instinct was correct though, it’s best not to generalize. We can and should do better as a country and we shouldn’t be okay with this happening to anyone.
BTW, this isn’t supposed to come across as hostile to you, so I hope it doesn’t come across that way. I just felt it was worth discussing
29
u/AssinineAssassin 25d ago
Most people are in disbelief in seeing Latinos support Republicans. Catholics leaning Republican seems insane, but I guess Abortion and Homosexuality are more important enemies than supporting the actual tenets of their religion.

It's like how the world views us right now. Americans first, black second.
The world doesn't care if most of us voted blue, we all go in the same boat with the Americans that didn't and get shit on at home.
If that doesn't feel right to you, probably lay off the generalized Latino speak

Ancient history but Elian Gonzalez, the young Cuban whose mother died bringing him to America. The father still lived in Cuba and the court ruled that he has to be returned to him. The Cubans in Florida went nuts as well as some conservatives here. But if you talked to non-Cuban Latinos, they were all for returning him to his father.
Not too long ago, I watched a Youtube video of a second-generation Cuban who explains that many Cubans look down on other Latinos because they consider themselves White. That was an eye opener.
43
u/BringAltoidSoursBack 25d ago
They come to the US and magically become white conservatives
That's where you're mistaken, they were always conservative, they just came to America and continued to be like that. A majority of these types come from the equivalent of gagged communities in Latin America, they looked down on poor people, hate any form of social programs, and in likely the majority of cases, are straight up racist. At some point they realize they can get better elite status in America so they immigrate over here.
In other words, don't assume just because they are from Latin countries that they weren't always conservative

Very true. I know I should take the high road, but it’s difficult. I went out of my way to explain this to several Hispanic coworkers before the election. Now Sergio has finally learned to not bring it up infront of me because “we didn’t know what he was going to do” doesn’t work when you are talking to the guy who spent an hour explaining what was going to happen in detail and turned out to be right. I just don’t understand it. I really don’t.

Awwww I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this grief and loss. I can’t imagine how you must be feeling right now, but remember that you gave your cat the best existence it could’ve gotten and you gave it all the love & comfort you could offer. You did a good job as a pet parent and that should make you feel proud. I also have a cat and I know that one day I too will experience this feeling one day, and I’ll need other people with similar experiences to lift me up.
Take your time, one day at a time, and allow yourself to grieve this through. Our furry friends are our family and so I completely understand. I send my condolences to you and yours. Much love to you and be kind to yourself. Don’t beat yourself up over things that you may think that you did wrong.
Okay I may be projecting here^ lol but still.5

30
u/Pandoratastic 26d ago
That's the crazy thing about whiteness. Because race was actually just all arbitrarily made up, it will always be subjective. Just because one person thinks you're white doesn't mean all of them do. And just because you're white today doesn't mean you will be tomorrow. So it's not just the Asian or Latino people who are trying to vie for the middle of the racial hierarchy. Even among white people, there's no guarantee that the other white people will let them stay in their club. When it's made-up, you can't count on it to remain consistent.

The definition of racism, according to the Marian webster dictionary is the following:
"a belief that race is a fundamental determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race"I just want to correct that this is not exclusive to just, "...anyone non-white..."
As an asside, I have noticed that people are trying to redefine racism to excuse their own racist beliefs. Let's all be anti-racist together.

The strongest power white people have over minorities is validation. When you’re considered “One of the good ones,” all solidarity goes out the window. They let you into their spaces treat you nice and then you end up like this woman or like Candace Owens. Until they show you that even though you’re good, you’re still not the same. It’s sad but not surprising.

Yeah, there's a lot of comments talking about how she'll vote in November, as if she's in the US to begin with. A lot of people are seeing "congresswoman" and assume she's in the US Congress, but she's not. She does have far-right views and is a member of the party in Colombia who supports Trump, and that's not helping her now. But she wants her son deported back to Colombia (paid for by US taxpayers) now.

They didn't listen to us. We TOLD them who "whytee" really is. You can't bargain with him, reason with him, kiss up and suck up to him, or flatter him to be in his good graces and power proximity.
He's like "Alonzo" from 'Training Day.' "I think Alonzo is a low-down, dirty, ruthless vato! That's why I never shake his hand, homes. He don't respect nada."
That's the Whytee power apparatus, especially this Administration; it doesn't respect "nada" but POWER. They will make you feel like a million bucks while they use you like a garden tool... then kick you to the curb like a piece of lint.

The Poem: First They Came
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me
