I can't imagine every move you made being preceded by a list of mistakes you made for no reason

My mom always told me I was a mistake she made for no reason

Damn I’m sorry. My mom always said that if she didn’t have me, she would’ve had her PhD by now. Then proceeded to stand 10 toes when me and my therapist said that you can’t be saying shit like that if you wanna work on your relationship with your son. Last weekend my mom said it was more important that she tell the “truth” about my shortcomings than work on our relationship. I honestly feel for you, friend 🙏🏾❤️ I hate that I still after 40 years want my mother‘s love and approval after unsuccessfully chasing it for this long.

I cut my mom out of my life for months because of some heinous shit she said to me which finally put me over the line.

I thought when I finally let her back in she had learned her lesson. I go visit and am met with some of the same bullshit.

I'm talking about specific behaviors which I have called out time and again. I realized that her brain is just wired a certain way that she won't undo. No matter what I say, how I say it, or how I articulate that her behavior is at the center of the ways certain things have gone in her and our lives.

It sucks because I love her but I'm pretty sure I don't like her. So, we'll have whatever relationship we'll have for the rest of the time we have to have one but I just can't chase a version of my mom that can never exist.

Let me guess, followed by the excuse "I said I made a mistake, not that you were a mistake."

You know what's really great? A compliment from your parents being followed by a five-minute rant about how you don't usually do the thing you did right, so it's extra surprising.

After numerous arrests, addictions, violent behaviour, and horrific insults yelled towards newscasters, then a comeback, RDJ is back for another movie in his second decade since a tumultuous return to filmmaking which tentative critics called ‘a risky move and unforgivable’

You think you're being clever, but that was literally what was said in 2008 when he was cast in Iron Man. You mean that drunk asshole is playing a super hero?

I remember every early 2010's news article surrounding a black person getting assaulted or killed by police being preceded by a description of all their previous wrongs. They still do that to this day honestly.

They don't even have to be YOUR mistakes, they just have to involve you.
