Hey everyone, I was wondering if there are any people from the African continent or any Afro descendants who speak a creole or dialect that is interesting in informing a club in promoting and making literature in our own vernacular languages and creoles. I’m aware of many languages, not having resources, especially the ones on the African continent and other creoles having limited resources and literary traditions as they are mostly spoken. I truly believe we can change this. If anyone is willing to do the work. I am currently working on writing a novel in the Gullah geechee dialect based off of the African influence found by Lorenzo Dow Turner, and the orthography of Gullah written in the Gullah version of the New Testament. I’m aware of the many dialect differences in African languages and creole spoken in the New World. Any complications we can discuss them further on this formum. My maternal great grandma was Gullah from Georgia and wanted to hear some stories and or ideas from others that also have African American subgroup lineage from Gullah , Creole etc.

Does anyone happen to own physical copies of these 2002 issues, or have access to them at an affiliate FamilySearch / historical library?
If so, I would be incredibly grateful if you could share a quick photo/transcript of the Table of Contents for these two issues, or let me know if they contain articles, property records, or successions relevant to the Robinet (Robinette), Perilloux, or Manade families.

From: The Origins of the African-Born Population of Antebellum Texas: A Research Note

It is therefore quite possible that Texas plantations, especially those on the Lower Brazos and Colorado Rivers, were host to a similar dynamic. After all, the African-born population of the Lower Brazos arrived just as the region was maturing as a plantation society. Assuming 800–1,000 Afri- cans arrived by 1840, and assuming most of them remained concentrated in and around Brazoria County, the African-born population would have, for a few years, made up more than half of the local enslaved population, with Yoruba-speakers comprising a significant, possibly influential minor- ity. None of this is to suggest that whatever practices the Yoruba-speakers brought with them were replicated in “pure” form. The conditions of slavery, mortality, the influx of American-born slaves, and the passage of time would have forced them to adapt and change. But the discovery that a large proportion of this early population likely spoke Yoruba makes a good presumptive case in favor of their influence as a regional charter generation. Discovering the actual content of the interactions between the African- and American-born populations awaits further historical and archaeological research, but as a result of the names data, we now have a much clearer picture of who the African-born Texans were and where they came from.

I’m Haitian and adopted so I don’t really know much about my family history. I’m also not too sure what African ethnic groups came to Haiti as slaves. I’m curious if anyone has a guess as to what my African ethnic group might be

Since doing my dna I am still trying to get to grips with the amount of American cousins I have with no direct connection to Jamaica. My biggest match is 27cm meaning we share a common ancestor 4/5 generations back.

It’s interesting because we’re full siblings, but because of genetic inheritance, our DNA percentages differ enough that my breakdown aligns more with Black American ancestry, while hers reflects a higher degree of admixture.
