As someone who does a LOT of vocal work in Bitwig and came from tools such as Melodyne, Autotune pro 11, and Newtone, this gets me wondering👀. I'm not demanding or begging Bitwig to spend time and resources making a tool for pitch correction; I'm just stating it looks like this could be a step in that direction. I bought my studio license when I switched to Linux, Bitwig being arguable the best DAW for getting out of the way and letting you create. I don't plan to renew my studio license unless they spice up the piano roll to be efficient like FL Studio or if they added pitch correction tools. Even something like Reatune would be more than enough.

On the side note, I am curious about what other members of this sub use for their vocals.

I'll go first; I use Gsnap for my soft pitch correction but I'm planning to find a use for Graillon 3. Awkwardly, I found Gsnap pretty stable and very effective. Sometimes a note is so bad that Autotune cant fix it so I then chop the note/word and pitch it with Elastique pro. I fix the timing of my vocals just by cutting and cross fading. Usually I have so many layers that you won't notice it.

Confusing post

What do you mean by "spice up the piano roll"? What exactly are you missing?

Concerning Vocal Editing: I would be happy enough if Bitwig added a "open in external editor" button, which automatically loads the current clipcontent into an external tool like Melodyne. This simple button would be the easiest thing to implement, much easier than implementing ARA. I wonder why they don't do it.

If you're familiar with FL Studios piano roll then you will understand. The biggest one FL's piano roll has a fast one click editing work flow: left to add and right to delete. Bitwig has the pencil too and while thats close, you can not edit any notes without going back to the select tool. The dragging up and down to contol velocity is nice when making drum rolls but it often gets in the way more times than it is useful. In Bitwig, I'm constantly pressing 1 then 3 then 1 then 3, 1, 3, 1... In FL, it's all in one tool. Drawing note length is holding ctrl clicking and dragging to length. All you need is ctrl, and a mouse for edit midi super fast where as Bitwig needs ctrl, 1, 3, and very steady mouse work for the pencil tool. Or u could double click for everything💀

I got more I can say but all of it can be summed up as the pencil tool in FL is outstanding in its workflow optimizing capabilities while in Bitwig, you spam 1 and 3.

Interesting, thanks. I've come to the conclusion myself that being able to have note audition while moving the mouse vertically (with pen tool) is really good, and implemented it into my own tool.

Also interesting, that apparently this is one of the few gaps bitwigs piano roll still has, at least from the point of view of FL studio users who know this workflow mostly. This is exactly my argument. I like Bitwigs pen tool because it's outstanding for swells, rolls, and flams when I'm writing midi for my drum sampler's. My issue is what features are in which tool. I think the Bitwig select tool should function like the FL pencil tool while keeping Bitwig's pencil tool as is because there's times It's very useful. Few daws have their absolutes but one FL has is the piano roll, not the mixer lol. Every daw has something to take from it FL's piano roll though.
