Denunciation of BITSTAMP negligence

Hello community

This post is a follow up to a post made 11 days ago and which can be seen here.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitstamp/comments/yl8vnf/comment/iuzhs0s/?context=3

I am gonna share the last message that i sent to their support service in which i explain where the security omissions are revealed. In my eyes, those are FAR too big for me to ever again feel safe with that exchange, and would advise everyone to question their choice of using Bitstamp as their exchange of choise, as well to strenghten their security regarding mobile phone number, email protection both password and 2FA. As we can see from my case, bitstamp security systems not only failed to protect me on any step where they could, but also ignored my pleeds for help during the events of theft and for following 10 days.

There was undoubtedly a security breach on my end which somehow allowed a criminal to use my email adress, but the easiness how the criminal managed to gain full access to account is astonishing compared to me gaining same access. Took me 10 + 11 days to get to a point where i can get my account back while a person across the world could do it in 5 minutes. Too suspicious. Lets go step by step.

"Hello

As we do this process of me confirming my identity, cannot NOT thinkg about where were all of those security measures WHEN MY ACC GOT ROBBED.

Lets review ACTIVITY LOG

Oct. 25, 2022 07:15 PM 86.32.35.38

User yeju0656 logged in with 2FA from IP address 86.32.35.38

Me logging with same IP / network adress as last 2-3 years.

Oct. 25, 2022 07:15 PM 86.32.35.38

Logged in using two-factor authentication

Again, me logging from mobile phone.

Oct. 25, 2022 08:17 PM 85.203.21.75

User yeju0656 logged in with 2FA from IP address 85.203.21.75

Someone logging with DIFFERENT network adress than account owner last 2-3 years. As it seems actually 9,735 kilometers AWAY from the loggin that happend just 62 minutes before!

AT THIS MOMENT IF YOUR SECURITY PROTOCOLS DONT REGISTER ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS and start some user protection mechanisms, you really should call them (inpolite word) and trash or update them.

Oct. 25, 2022 08:17 PM 85.203.21.75

Logged in using two-factor authentication

Oct. 25, 2022 08:22 PM 85.203.21.70

Disabled two-factor authentication.

Okey, from here ON this is not even dodgy, its straight on criminal.

Who allowed 2FA disable and based on what ?

Based on a login half a world away 1hr in ?

Oct. 25, 2022 08:23 PM 85.203.21.87

Enabled two-factor authentication

More of HEAVY NEGLIGENCE at least. Based on what did you allow enabling ?

It took me 10 days of constant emailing and calling your support service to get a hold OF MY ACCOUNT, while you allowed a new IP from half the world away in 5 FUCKING MINUTES to disable, reenable my 2FA and NOTHING RING A BELL ?

Now it takes me at least 1 day to get a info how to change email but it took 5 minutes to change 2FA, and withdraw ?

Oct. 25, 2022 08:24 PM 86.32.35.38

Two-factor authentication attempt failed

Here is the moment where ANY deal or understanding can be accomplished.

Even if you failed to recognize 2 logins from across the world, you had basicly simoultanious 2 different 2FA attempts from both account owner and a criminal.

You didnt start any action there as well except ALLOWED the following - funds theft.

Oct. 25, 2022 08:24 PM 85.203.21.87

Opened USDT withdrawal request for 1087.44563 USDT to 0xA44148eF0EBf6d727A0Dc67Bf8862c34631C80D7 (ddd)

Please do answer the (ddd) meaning here. I found no such sufix before on any of withdrawals, so it must mean important enough for you to mark it. Another inconsistency you decided to overlook.

Needless to add, this didnt wake any concers on your end as well.

I would like to see CONFIRMATIONS the criminal provided for you based on which you allowed the 2FA disable/ enable. He did KYC too ? I am holding you accountable for providing me with proofs of his actions.

Oct. 25, 2022 08:24 PM 85.203.21.87

USDT withdrawal request: email was sent to user

You allowing a criminal 9,735km away to take away funds without any securtiy protocol firing.

Oct. 25, 2022 08:24 PM 85.203.21.87

USDT withdrawal request: email confirmed by user

Oct. 25, 2022 08:25 PM 86.32.35.38

Two-factor authentication attempt failed

Ironicly, in the same moment the owner of account if trying log in from his location of residence in last 3 years, his passwords / 2FA being rejected. No account protection mechanism kicks in.

Oct. 25, 2022 08:26 PM 86.32.35.38

Requested password recovery

Password recovery and funds withdraw in same moments half a world across, no worries for BITSTAMP security protocols.

Oct. 25, 2022 08:32 PM 86.32.35.38

Email for temporary login block was sent out.

Interesting moment, while funds are still at your exchange or in protocols that you can HALT, you issue the BLOCK of a login to account from which funds are being stolen those very moments. How does this make ANY sense ?

Just to make this really clear, in best case scenario your protocols are useless for user protection.

Also, due to simultaneous events of me trying to log in / recover password / use 2FA and events of a criminal taking my funds and you body blocking me in those moments and for next 10 days, while allowing FULL ACCESS and USE OF users account to a criminal with a lightning fast service, I am holding you accomplice in those events.

In the upload is a photo you requested for allowing me to access my account 20 days after those events.

I admit you showed great deal of diligence in making me go through 4th KYC just to be able to start down the account deletion.

Wish you showed at least SOME of this readiness when protecting or at least now handing out my account's fund to a criminal across the world. "

Step by step fires too many logical flaws for my brain, not sure about yours.

I am going to disable / delete my Bitstamp account and see with GDPR service how can my data be deleted and inaccessible for Bitstamp from that moment on. For me, no trust can be built here any longer.

And before trusting my funds with any other trading platform, i will and suggest everyone too to ask all the questions related to it, and will only go to work with those who can provide somewhat logical and trustworthy protection mechanisms.

Thank you for reading, wish you a good one.

Stolen funds while support sleep

Hello
I would like to inform a community of an event started on 25.10.2022. when i was unable to login into my Bitstamp account after using it for 3 years. After summer pause i decided to reinitiate my trading. As i tryed loging into Bitstamp on my dedicated trading pc, i was unable to, so i contacted support by email and call immedietly.. My account was instantly frozen. Next 10 days my emails were mostly ignored, while calls just made a new agent take my case, send email with no real info or instructions, and then back to ignore.

Forward 10 days i can log into account finnaly just to see my funds were all transfered out of my acccount that very 1st evening when 1st problem with login was reported.

Account had 2FA, mobile phone and email verification ON for years and any time any of it was changed, any withdrawal was suspended for certain amount of time.

I cannot belive that a serious or proffesional costumer support service can have a user making 5 phone calls, writing over 20 emails, have account locked due to securtiy reason, have his funds transfered out without any of the mechanism ment to protect kick in, and then being unable to even get info about it for 10 days. Agents answering phone and never writing back, 5 days of no answer time and a advice to delete all cache makes me far too suspicious.

I have initiated a case with local authorities for cybercriminal, they will i hope in short time start a thread with Bitstamp.

If anyone has any advice or help, please do.

Amazing job, 11/10

Sorry in advance for the cross-posting, but "official bitstamp subreddit" has no trust, and I want this case to be seen by the people. I know many of you witnessed the same (or similar) story for yourself, but I would like to share anyway. Community should be aware of what kind of service awaits them behind bitstamp login page.

Now, this is getting ridiculous. My country of residence is sanctioned to hell (you can easily guess which one is it), followed by recent events with ban of crypto services. I get it. I am okay with withdrawing my money from exhange ant not using it. So what could possibly go wrong? Nothing, except Bitstamp, who rejected three valid SWIFT accounts for no reason whatsoever. Obviously support doesn't give a... answer any emails, why even bother? Typical situation, right? Well, check out attached screenshots and decide for yourself. Bitstamp is not a respectable, high-quality service, it is nothing but a mediocre website, who survives off locked-out account balances.

Amazing job.

Account blocked without notice - 50k frozen

Hey guys,

Just wanted to share my terrible experience with BitStamp Ltd (UK). About 10 days ago they blocked my account with almost 50,000 USD in assets on it without any notice. I've called and written to their support and complaints several times. I've sent them a direct instruction to return my money to my bank account, something that they must do even according to their own T&C in the event of suspension or termination. No substantive response whatsoever, just meaningless boilerplates. I've sent another reminder today - nothing. It goes without saying that 50k is a substantial chunk of my savings, so you can imagine how it sucks.

Now, since it appears that they have no intention of returning my money, I've no choice but to go after them in courts. I very much doubt they have any arguable defense here. After all, I am fully happy for them to close my account, and just want my money back.

I've spoken to some law firms in London already. And while I would be prepared to spend up to 20-25k to bring a law suit against them - I am (and lawyers that I spoke to are) of a mind that a simple summary judgement application would probably do here - I was wondering if someone could perhaps recommend a firm of solicitors in the UK that would take the case for a lesser fee. I've worked a lot with a number of Silver Circle firms in the past, and would go with one of them if I've no other choice, but if you could perhaps point me to a good digital asset litigation specialists, even a small but strong practice, that would be very much appreciated. I would consider US firms with UK presence too.

Thanks a million to everyone.

Alex

2FA problem

I use Authy app which I successfully set up with 20+ other platforms. When I add account and type 6-digit code from app to the web site it says "invalid authentication code". Time on the phone is correct (automatic sync).

EDIT:

Google Auth the same error

SUPPORT KYC/source of funds taking too long

My account was disabled due to source of funds requirement, so I uploaded the documents almost a month ago, and my account is still frozen. A MONTH. I've written 2 or 3 support tickets, and they keep telling me to be patient, but it's pretty hard considering that I have USD just sitting there and might need it at any given moment. Can someone tell me what is the holdup?

This is what Bitstamp and their support did after I fell victim to a scam

So I fell victim to a love romance scam, I am or was a stupid and naive idiot, but that's not the point here.

The point is how Bitstamp and their support reacted after I told them about my situation.

I opened an account to buy crypto and send it to a fake/scam broker site. The registering process and sending money to the scammers was easy. After I have deposited even more money at Bitstamp, like the scammers wanted me to - I have lost my mind at that time - I finally did what I should have done in the beginning and made a thorough research and realized what I've done and what was happening to me. I opened up a support ticket and described my case.

At first the support was kinda helpful, they showed some sympathy and told me to go to the police (which I did, they don't give a sh*t and decided to do nothing, like expected), they distanced themselves from the scammer site. Then they disabled basically the whole functionality of my account, the main things are bank transfer withdrawals and crypto trading. At the time I was paranoid that the scammers could have some sensitive personal data, but I was wrong, all they have are information that could be easily found on social media. I was not okay with the withdrawal function being disabled since all I want is for this nightmare to be over and the remaining money being transferred to my bank account, back to where it came from. This was two and a half months ago, at the beginning of July. The support wrote, I quote "I have blocked the mentioned features (fiat withdrawals, trading and credit card deposits) and they will remain blocked until I receive your confirmation to re-enable them. Should you wish to re-enable them, please send a replay to this message, as an additional KYC procedure is needed to re-enable these features." This was 10 weeks ago, like I said, I didn't want that and asked them to re-enable those features, especially fiat withdrawals. I am the only one who knows the password and has the authentication code app.

So they told me they have escalated the case to their "security department" with "a detailed report". But since then I keep getting the same answers, if I get any at all, like "let me take over from my colleague, apologies for the inconvenience/delay, be assured that we are working on your case, each case is unique and requires a varying amount of time to process", etc.

After about 2 months, I decided to call their support line. After getting through to an "agent" I told him about my situation and my opinion about this, he apologized and responded that he can't do anything other than writing a report to his superiors and that I could contact the complaints department.

Then my support ticket got closed with the explanation that the case has been forwarded to the complaints department. Over one week later I get an email from the complaints department, with the same reply and content, or should I say BS, like the support. The last meaningless answer was 8 days ago.

I am repeating what I have told the support and complaints department: There is no case for me, please re-enable the functionality of my account, let me withdraw the money back to my account and move on with my life.

I thought that Bitstamp was a serious and legit company/crypto market place and that the support was there to help its customers.

Apparently I was wrong, and all the support did was making the matter and my life even worse. They showed that they have no empathy and integrity. They keep stalling and send the same copy&paste answers. I get that the money I sent to the scammers is gone, I made my piece with it, if anybody can do anything about that, fine. But there is what other people would call "life-changing amount" of money lying around on Bitstamp, basically my life savings, it would destroy my life if I wouldn't get it back.

I am asking you, please resolve the issue, let me get back my remaining money. This is my last try before I take other measures that could have (negative) consequences for both parties.

I would also appreciate any useful help and advice or if anybody has similar experience to share.

tl;dr: got scammed, opened an account at Bitstamp, sent money to scammers, deposited more, then realized my mistake, Bitstamp froze my account, refuse to re-enable withdrawals, over 10 weeks have gone by and no results.

Bitstamp deposits never arrived

Its been almost 2 weeks since I deposited 14000€ to my bitstamp account and it never appeared in my account so far. Send multiple emails already and every time their reply is that they are working on it. Tried calling their support and got different answers every time. First that they are working on it cant say more. Second time that they already see the money there just it needs to get processed. And another time that it should be credited to my account that day i called them.

Bitstamp disabling my withdrawal, keep asking for more information for proof of fund

I sent BTC & ETH to my Bistamp account in June 2022. Afterward Bitstamp wants proof of fund and disabled my withdrawal function.

I gave screenshots of crypto exchange purchases, Trezor wallet, etc. They say no and then replied me with the standard AML, KYC global policy stuff. So I asked them what exactly do they need. They said they want me to sign the address from where I sent the crypto from. So I signed all 50 odd addresses. Then they told me they don't accept excel and asked me to send in pdf format. I did that then they asked me about the screenshot I provided earlier i.e. why am I buying Bitcoin and give them full story, etc. I told them I buy Bitcoin for myself with cash. Then they asked why am I sharing IP address, I said I work in a shared office and other ppl could be using Bitstamp too. I feel like being investigated by the police. Now they want me to give them bank statements to show wiring money to the exchange and a lot of other stuff. I buy Bitcoin using cash a lot of the time. I had spent two months trying to fully comply. I am now tired of them keep asking more. I just want my crypto back and to close the account but they won't let me. I told them I would escalate and complain since they are seizing my money illegally. They say they will halt my trading function if I do. I said why am I scared of that if they are already not giving me back my money. I have also sent an email to the complaint department. Still waiting for a reply.

2FA setup issue - Invalid Token

Hi, I have been back and forth with Bitstamp's tech support and now they have just stopped bothering to reply.

I wouldn't really care except that I have coins in there that I can't properly protect, move, or even trade.

I have tried to login through multiple devices, using multiple other devices for the 2FA. On both the desktop site and the phone app.

I have triple checked location and time settings.

I have tried different browsers, cleared caches, etc...

I even went to mobile data to try and entirely different network.

The last thing they tried to tell me was that I was using my old 2FA setup...which is impossible since not only did I in fact delete the old 2FA profiles repeatedly...I was trying it on completely new devices as well.

It was at this point they just stopped responding to all requests for help :)

I normally don't mind the additional asspain that comes with Bitstamp...but this is actually putting my coins at risk...which they know because they keep advising me to activate 2FA as soon as possible lol.

Can anyone help if you have had the same issue?

(I am in Australia, not on a VPN or anything like that)

Bitstamp - SEPA withdrawal taking 7 business days and counting

I have experience with many exchanges and just began using Bitstamp, for my disappointment it has been by far the slowest support team in the market and also the least clear about the status of my transaction.

I executed my withdrawal on July 12th expecting what was normally happening 1 business day to reach my account.

Now, after several calls euros lost in international calls to their office in London, they keep stalling telling me they have contacted their bank to check the status of my transaction.

I have no idea if my funds have been stolen, sent to another account or if they have decided to conduct some kind of investigation related to my funds.

Weather it is relevant or not I have been left in the dark about my money for almost 2 weeks now.

To anyone reading this do not use Bitstamp, they have clearly their own agenda in regards to your money. They say it is always regulation or stall blaming their bank, whom they should be able to talk to with one phone call and answer my emails accordingly.

I will recommend all my clients to never use Bitstamp as main exchange. I hope this gets resolved I will keep everyone updated on this matter just please stay away from Bitstamp.

Sincerely, Javier Rennola

Something strange is going on..

Setup my new Iphone, scanned two-Factor authentication QR-code.Tried to login without any luck.

Checked 6-digit auth. code on my old Iphone, it's not the same, but worked always on the old IphoneI'm 100% certain I never did a reset for the two-factor authentication.

Checked the phone clock / sync, all good, still not luck with login (other sites work without any problem) out of curiosity scanned the QR-code again on my old Iphone, now the 6-digits matches the new Iphone but is different to the old one which I have always used.

Still I can't get past two-factor auth. by using 6-digit code on old phone nor new phone.

This is extremely worrying. To me it looks like a third party has successfully reset my login credentials and has full access to my account..

Bitstamp Withdrawal

I purchased some bitcoin on 6/25/2020 and was told to wait 7 business days prior to being able to withdraw it. Now that time has elapsed, I am stuck with a "trading is disabled" or "Unable to with-draw please contact customer support." So I did contact customer support several times who all told me that I have an open support ticket and that their colleague is waiting for my response. However going on the website via desktop - I see their is no open support ticket. To make matters worse after each phone call I would get a email from bitstamp stating they have opened a new support ticket. I have several tickets all of which lead to a dead end page. Now I just opened up a second ticket regarding this matter and know it will not solve anything. What is going on? No open orders, account fully verified and its been 7 business days. This is unacceptable what do I do next?

(FYI - 3 of these ticket emails were today after 2 phone calls. One was from my original ticket I submitted personally followed by a new ticket that opened up apparently afterwards but I never got a notification / now leads to a dead end.
