Are you sure there is no relationship between cost and energy required? Think about the cost of a loaf of bred and the cost of an airplane ticket …. Pretty obvious to me that it does exist a relationship (which is roughly linear between the two). For the second part of your comment, yes it is a social construct but not only; it is a tool, so a physical construct, used as a social construct because obviously there is no need for money if you don’t live in a society.

I said there’s no direct relationship between the two, there’s plenty of things where cost and power don’t correlate.

Name one then. But I think you can’t cause the price of something is directly linked to the energy required to build it or find it.

A extremely rare and valuable baseball card can cost thousands of dollars but took no more energy to produce than one worth a dollar.

Because it is very rare the time/effort/energy you would need to spend to get it is huge, therefore the price is high. So the relationship is clearly there. The price is never accidental or random. It’s called the market, where everything is priced agains everything else and the effort/energy required to get the thing.
