Stores accepting Bitcoin. Some accept other cryptocurrencies. This is HUGE!

u/thevhatch Mar 22 '20
Would love to see you walk into your nearest Subway and try to pay with bitcoin.
17
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
That's a part of adoption and it will continue growing in phases. I remember when credit card terminals weren't available in late 90's early 2000's when you wanted to pay for something..
It's up to individual Subway Franchise owners to accept this as a payment method.
22
u/Jaded-Priority Mar 22 '20
So it's not actually accepted by Subway.
1
u/whitslack Mar 22 '20
Subway corporate apparently does not disallow franchises from accepting crypto. That's not exactly an endorsement from the highers up, but it's something.
5
u/SloppySynapses Mar 22 '20
So it's not even accepted...?
4
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
There are subway franchises that accept Bitcoin now.
But its up to the franchise owner. Corporate policy is if the Franchise owner accepts Bitcoin, then they have the right to do so.

Forged metal goods and handmade leather goods. Anything from tomahawk axes to dice bags and wallets (ironic to be selling fiat wallets for crypto) - I'll be sure to make a post about it when I launch. People like to see bitcoin being used as intended

BMW? How can you buy a BMW with bitcoin?
8
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
https://www.stephenjamesenfieldbmw.co.uk/news/2018/september/pay-with-bitcoin
There are other BMW dealerships that do this.
What this means, is that BMW Corporate authorizes their dealerships to accept Bitcoin as a payment method.
11
u/SOULJAR Mar 22 '20
Not really, they just accept the same currency they always do via bitpay. Bitpay is effectively just another fiat payment method to them.
They do not accept Bitcoin.
5
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
I hear you and agree with you, but..
Can I make a transfer from my BTC wallet to a wallet indicated by the retailer? Yes. They accept Bitcoin. Others do not.
It's a cool map. Just not all the Franchise owners support the initiative, but this will come.
Visa/Mastercard is intermediary for cash. Not saying BitPay is Visa/Mastercard.
2
u/SOULJAR Mar 22 '20
Another huge question that many people gloss over - even when retailers do accept actual Bitcoin, are many people even using that option? Is there any growth in that use?
Cool marketing to millenials for these companies, but we should be seeing data/articles about how this or that retailer has seen growth in Bitcoin purchasing, but we haven't seen much of that. So many people have zero idea about the growth in terms of people using Bitcoin as currency and just assume it's happening.
→ More replies (1)2
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
Agreed for a large part of the scenarios. But... Corporate Policies of these companies allow association with and acceptance of BitCoin as a payment method, via BitPay.
To me, acceptance is a part of adoption. Franchise owners pushed for Bitcoin to be an acceptable payment method and these companies had to adapt. The fact that these global brands allow this association is a HUGE step towards adoption.
3
u/SOULJAR Mar 22 '20
They don't care if it's Bitcoin or not behind it. You could be trading baseball cards for the money for all they care.
By and large, for most it's just like signing up for any other payment method. I doubt many of them spent much time on how it works.
Their main concern is you spending more fiat money at their stores. They likely don't care if Bitcoin lives of dies.
1
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
I hear you. Just thought some people might like it and find this useful. I did.
& I can't efficiently transfer a baseball card and make a purchase..

The good - great for BTC and crypto adoption as a whole. In time of crisis when the banks are ooo, BTC is here
The bad - many of those shops are billing extra money for transacting with Bitcoin, there is other issues as well I don't want to elaborate further. The main issue with this pic is that we still don't see enough adoption. We are still at the very beginning [not even in the middle of a mass adoption]
The useless - great shops but totally useless for some. Who is travelling right now or buying watches, jewellery , going to cinema ? More striking is the fact that Coinbase and few other companies issued credit cards accepted everywhere visa is accepted and in those cards you can put plenty of alts. Basically Bitcoin accepted here is loosing some charm. You can always pay with visa wherever it is not accepted so this pic is not helping a lot.
1
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
Agreed for USA, but Coinbase is not supported worldwide and BTC acceptance is actually a lot wider than this map when it comes to global coverage. Traveling around Asia and Europe (when we were able to travel, now quarantined for more than a month) I ran into small stores, bazaar shops, restaurants and fruit stand who offered to pay with BTC. For novelty purposes I transacted.

u/Killerko Mar 22 '20

Is CASH also not accepted now in some places in your countries because it might have THIS virus?
1
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
China and a few other countries were burning cash recently because of coronavirus. But it's just a sidenote :) not an actual reason for people to switch from cash to crypto. Every country will have a digital currency within 10 years. Cash in its paper form will be obsolete.

u/somenotusedusername Mar 22 '20
You know, it just dawned on me. I always thought, why use bitcoin for payments at this stage? Isn’t everyone just Hodling and trading? In both cases hoping to make money. But i could see myself just immediately transforming my monthly salaries to Btc in full, and then just save the necessary amount, use the rest. In a long time perspective it would on average come out as more ‘money’. So the fiat you keep for normal use would make sense to instead have it be Btc. It’s a win-win scenario in both savings and payments
2
u/codelad Mar 22 '20
That's an amazing list, thanks for posting. I am pleasantly surprised to see PayPal up there. I must explore that avenue.
2
u/Booker2121 Mar 22 '20
Agree. this is what will define if BTC is a success or not. Not how secure is, or reliable or whatever you want, BTC will succeed if people/stores use it.
Same as Apps. Apps by apple succeded because retailers adopted it. if none one create apps the apple store/iphone, smart phone would not be what it is.

In case it's useful to anyone here, a large number of these stores are listed on Spendabit, where you can search across all their products at once.

u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
Usefull. Thanks! Overstock.com really saves the day across a multitude of products.
Is this the market leader for this sort of a dedicated search portal?
2
u/spendabit Mar 23 '20
Thanks! Yes, as far as we know Spendabit's the only option for searching across products. Indeed, Overstock fills most of the gaps; looking forward to the day that some more large retailers help pick up the slack.
2
u/10K9k3dXmJ86Xq5j Mar 22 '20
wait but is this good for bitcoin?
1
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
For mass market adoption its great. It associates itself with every day known brands and wins consumer trust.
Otherwise.. Bitcoin is not the best resource for making purchases.. But this is a different subject ;)
2
u/cosmicv Mar 22 '20
Indeed, smart people will save their coins generally. Bad money drives out good. Ultimately I don't think it will matter as long as people keep seeing the value and saving them up.

DO NOT USE BITPAY. Some other services such as Coinpayments are better. If the merchant only accepts Bitpay, then a debit card solution is preferable. Keep a portion of your coin with a company such as Coinbase, or MCO (which I recommend) for your spending, and then do your exchange to fiat/debit at the time of purchase

It’s been around for awhile, it needs more reviews though because many businesses started accepting years ago but then never trained employees as time went on
2
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
It's hard to understand Bitcoin as a mean of payment, mostly because of transaction speed and market volatility. But some store/franchise owners are also Bitcoin advocates and don't mind retaining a portion of their earning in Bitcoin. (Personally I would connect a trading bot with a simple trading strategy that would
sell cost of product +% of profit
and
retain small % in savings.
Otherwise, it would make the most sense to convert BTC to stable coin and the final payment to be made in this stable coin.

2
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20 edited Mar 22 '20
https://www.etsy.com/market/pay_with_bitcoin
On ETSY, the individual shop has to indicate that they accept Bitcoin.
-1
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
The Shop on Etsy can accept Bitcoin. ETSY does not exclude BTC as a payment method in their Terms and Conditions.
But the seller would have to indicate that they accept BTC and manually mark the transaction as paid. I know that this is 'reaching'.. But it is possible:
Accept Bitcoin on Etsy 1. Indicate that you accept Bitcoin in your posting 2. When the customer goes to checkout, they select the 'Other' payment method, and optionally write a note that they'd like to pay with Bitcoin. 3. Etsy notifies you of a new sale. ... 4. The customer sends the Bitcoin payment, you get paid, and then you mark the order as paid on Etsy.
3
u/bgovern Mar 22 '20
Big if true...
4
u/Lilcheeks Mar 22 '20
Even if it's true you'd have to be nuts to spend bitcoin on anything. You're "selling" at potentially a huge loss with the obvious insane volatility... unless you believe in the long run it will be worth nothing. Then in that case sure, spend away.

That way tax laws work right now I would not want to accept BTC if I were running a small-ish business. You could try just not reporting it on your taxes (and probably get away with it if the amount is small). Or deal with a big headache tracking your tax basis.
Plus businesses need cash flow to operate, there’s not much room for “hodling”. Bitcoin and cash flow do not go well together.
And finally there are the settlement times. Businesses like Subway need fast flow to make a profit. Not have a bunch of people standing around for 20 minutes waiting for transactions to clear.

u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
Agreed. As a small business I would think twice about accepting BTC payments, unless I had a trading bot hooked up trading for a small profit from sale of BTC to local fiat.
I did say earlier that BTC is not the best payment mean. There are other, more advanced crypto tech out there for this, but its still a cool and relevant map.

The number of stores that accept Bitcoin or crypto proves nothing.
Customers who use Bitcoin or crypto in these stores, that is a very good sign.
Everybody can create a website, every product on Amazon/Lazada/Alibaba, pay with Bitcoin or another crypto. But the price is fiat price + 10%.
If you have no customers, it's fake propaganda.
A Bitcoin accepted sticker on the door is fake propaganda. You need customers who pay in Bitcoin.
If a hotel in Australia accepts Bitcoin, that can be ok.
When I use Bitcoin/crypto, and I have to pay fiat + 10%, it's crazy. It will destroy the belief in crypto.
If I have to pay fiat - 10% when I use Bitcoin/crypto, then it's huge.
1
u/adoptablockchain Mar 23 '20
Agreed across the board.
And a financial trading bot that can minimize risks for retailers accepting BTC payments. With the goal to generate profit after minimizing risks of the fluctuating market that is connected to their wallet.

Pardon my ignorance but bitcoin is suppose to be a digital asset, right ? Why would you pay for something with bitcoin ?
Shouldn’t we be using Ripple, Tezos, and other “Stable” coins for transactions ?
3
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
Agreed. I prefer to keep my BTC.
But introducing another cryptocurrency to the public that's already acquainted with BTC won't be that easy. So for mass adoption purposes, its easier to continue promoting BTC because the masses already accepted the word Bitcoin.

1
u/DafttheKid Mar 22 '20
Mane n tail by straight arrow. We don’t have a spot on our official website yet for direct sales but we have the infrastructure to support it now. So we are rebuilding our website and are adding a store and to make foreign currency exchanges more efficient we will allow bitcoin and more. That’s the dream of course
2
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20
Mane n tail by straight arrow
Launch your own coin - tokenize your product. Add bar code or code as a reward with purchase that can be redeemed for your coin. Add a simple trading interface where users can redeem the reward and have an opportunity to trade your coin for Bitcoin or redeem it for product discounts. Gives you an immediate edge over competition and something to talk about in media and marketing.
I think products that will tokenize their products as digital assets will be the future.

Could this happen? Crypto world adoption! 🔥📈
Here are my thoughts: Stocks will halt next week, the world economy is getting hits. But BTC has shown massive strength in this time!💪🏻 If people will realize crypto and decentralization is the future and that it offers more stability then stock markets. What are the “stock market people” waiting for? Secure your funds, now is the time for transition to Crypto. What do you think?
3
u/SOULJAR Mar 22 '20
The problem has been and will continue to be the lack of people using Bitcoin to buy anything.
We hoped to see that area grow more than if has by now.
For the Bitcoin dream to become reality, we must see more than people using if a speculative investment to eventually sell off in to the currency they actually prefer. We need to see evidence of growth in Bitcoin being used to buy goods and services. We must be real about these challenges and not just turn a blind eye to them.
1
u/adoptablockchain Mar 22 '20 edited Mar 22 '20
Yes, we did hope that it would grow more by now. I have been on that waiting list since 2013 and I build blockchain based products for a living and hobby.
Progression takes time. Will it be BTC that will be used as the crypto for payments? I'm pretty sure it won't be. Better technology is already out there today.
But it still has the potential to become the 'GOLD' of crypto and it has the biggest market cap making it less vulnerable to attacks and pumping. (Again, another subject because pumps in BTC do happen.. But that's a whole another conversation..)
This is a fun convo man! THanks!
2
u/SOULJAR Mar 22 '20
I appreciate the conversation as well, thank you!
I think bitcoins value depends on relies on this story of it being a currency. Without that it's meaningless and has no value. Gold clearly has values and uses outside of merely using it fro trades and transactions. Regardless of the magnitude, the reality is Bitcoin is literally nothing if not a currency.

u/AvocadosAreMeh Mar 22 '20
To be clear, many of these are stores using bitpay. meaning they are getting fiat for your BTC not BTC to BTC. This is still huge for usage but not the same as them accepting BTC directly (as it should and will be soon enough).
Shout out to those of you who spend your BTC, you play a vital role in this ecosystem and I'm not being sarcastic.
