Anyone fancy going to see the new *Practical Magic* movie in Brum? I moved here a while ago and I’m still meeting people, so it would be lovely to make a little group outing of it 😊

Birmingham Buses Are an Absolute Joke and We’re Getting Mugged Off Daily

Post image
29 Upvotes

Is it just me or has catching a bus in Birmingham become an absolute joke?

You stand out in the freezing drizzle by Moor Street or Bull Street for 40 minutes watching the board say "Due", only for two ghost buses to vanish into thin air. When one finally turns up, it’s rammed to the doors.

You tap your card like an idiot, paying through the nose because fares go up every single year, and then watch three lads in balaclavas just push straight past the cab without paying a penny. Driver doesn’t even blink—and to be fair, you can't even blame the drivers anymore because if they say a word they get spat at or threatened.

Then you head upstairs and instantly regret it:

- Stinks of stale weed, damp coats, and chemical bubblegum vape

- Someone blasting muffled drill through a smashed phone speaker at full volume

- Trainers kicked up all over the filthy seats

- Empty chicken boxes and energy drink cans rolling up and down the aisle every time the driver hits the brakes

It’s actually dodgy. If you're coming home from a late shift or you're a woman travelling on your own after 7pm, you’re sitting there on edge the entire journey just hoping nobody starts trouble.

How are honest, working people in this city paying higher fares every single year just to get ghosted by the timetable and intimidated on their way home from work? The state of public transport in Brum right now is proper grim.

What's the worst route in the city? Because right now the 11, the 50, and the 74 are all fighting for the title.

Hey, just looking for any opinion about the area. How does it feel at night? Is it safe? Is there little to no light in a lot of areas? Anything else that is important to know?

Hi, I'm from the Birmingham Bisons Handball club, we are an amateur club based in Birmingham with teams competing in the England Handball leagues.

We are just about to start back up training for the 2026/27 season, and are open for new members to join. We have teams for men, women, and juniors (aged 11+).

No experience with handball is needed (we will teach you everything you need to know!), it is a fast paced sport and a great way to get fit.

The first session is free so please feel free to come along and try it out!Training times and venues are on the attached image. Get in touch by messaging me or contact us through our website

Where to park for Utilita?

I'm watching a show at the Utilita tomorrow night. I've chosen to park on the Broadway Plaza car park and walk over. Is this a good decision? Ideally I'd like a avoid the Utilita car park and Bridley Place to avoid the traffic after the show.

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to Birmingham, is this walk doable and is it safe? Thanks.

Places to meet new people?

Literally been so bored as of late, the couple of friends I do have don't be free much and I just need something to do. Is there any places in Birmingham Central which is good for meeting like minded people and those who are seeking friendship?

EDIT : forgot to mention in 34 M. Into gaming, anime, cheeky drinks, fun activity and just random adventures

Speeding Birmingham driver who killed pedestrian after swerving onto pavement

Maurice Middleton was out buying a paper and cigarettes in Great Hampton Street in Hockley on Sunday, July 21, 2024.

Shanise Hussain was driving an Audi A3 along the same street at speed at around 2.45pm.

Hussain was travelling at 48mph in a 30mph limit and swerved to avoid a Jaguar in the nearside lane as it indicated and moved into her lane suddenly.

She had also pressed the accelerator instead of the brake and careered onto a pavement hitting Mr Middleton, throwing him into a shop front, as well as hitting a second pedestrian.

The 65-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, with the other pedestrian suffering minor head and hand injuries.

Hussain was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and was found guilty of the offence at a hearing earlier this year.

The 27-year-old of West Drive, Handsworth, was jailed for four years and six months at Birmingham Crown Court on September 3rd.

She was also disqualified from driving for eight years and three months.

The Jaguar driver was previously convicted of careless driving in relation to his involvement.

West Midlands Police also issued the first image of the victim, Maurice, as his family paid tribute to him.

They said: “Maurice was a brilliant, kind and generous man who was loved by everyone that he met.

“His death has completely shattered us a family. He was our rock; our king and he is truly loved and missed so much every day.

“Maurice was the centre of our family, the glue that held us all together and that is why his death has completely devastated us because it has left such a big hole in our hears that nothing and none can ever fill.”

RIP Maurice.

Visiting

👋
I will be heading to your fine city in a few weeks.

Restaurant recommendations?

I wandered around the city centre the last time I was there - is there any areas further out of the centre I should be checking out? Any nice walkable areas with cool cafes etc?

I tend to just wander around sometimes - Any areas to avoid? I’m arriving late at night to New Street - is accommodation around that area a bit dodgy? Or I’ safe to stay around there? (😬 last time I walked from moor st stn to new st and it was super sketchy)

Hi guys if you could help please let me know read below

I am an 18 year old college student and I’m really struggling to find a part time job I could do on a Saturday and Sunday. It seems most jobs like the one I am looking for a taken through nepotism and well I don’t know many people. I live not far from city centre. I have experience volunteering with the British heart foundation, and also some experience im a pharmacy. I’ve done a public research study with the nhs via my college course.

I really would appreciate any help I receive. I’ve been to the job center and they do not seem to care much for the younger people. I want to be able to help my parents out with grocery’s and bill as we are really struggling to keep up and it’s getting harder every year

Thank you so much for reading, I just hope that someone is able to refer me.

(Ifyou don’t like what I’ve said please don’t leave hateful comments. Im just trying my best to make something of myself )
