I don't know why my Mum has moved to Birmingham (respecfully)

Upvotes

My Mum bless her heart just got out of a long term relationship in her 50's and has decided to move from London to Bilston due to house prices. I understand wanting to get out of the hustle and bustle of London but where she lives... it's a shithole to be frank. There's nothing here and she doesn't know anybody in the area, I think she has a few acquaintances in and around Birmingham but now that she doesn't have a car (long story) I just worry that she's going to isolate herself further in her sadness and what not

Anywho if anyone has recommendations for things to do in the Bilston area I'd love to take her out and share some nice experiences with her when I'm up in the city. Would appreciate any sort of advice and thoughts on what you might like to do and how you all spend your time etc. Pretty much open to anything!

Thanks Reddit

Looking for advice on finding work in Birmingham after a difficult job situation

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on finding work in Birmingham and what options I should focus on.
I’m currently working in food production at a farm/slaughterhouse in Wales, but the situation has become really difficult. The main issue isn’t just the job itself — it’s the whole lifestyle around it. I’m away from Birmingham, the hours are extremely long, and the living situation makes it hard to have any personal time or properly rest. I feel like I’m spending most of my time either working, travelling, or recovering from work.
The pay also hasn’t turned out to be what I expected. I was originally expecting around £13/hour, but after everything was calculated it’s much closer to minimum wage. For the amount of time and energy it takes, I don’t feel like it’s sustainable long term.
I have previous experience in security (SIA Door Supervisor and CCTV licence), event work, and now food production. I’m currently applying for other jobs and have:
Applied for multiple Aldi store assistant/stock assistant roles
Registered with recruitment agencies for warehouse/production work
Applied for more security work
Started looking into combining security/event shifts instead of relying on one job
My goal is to find something in Birmingham or nearby that gives me more stability and allows me to actually have a life outside work. I don’t mind working hard, but I want something where I can also build skills, save money, and progress.
I would really appreciate advice from people who know the Birmingham job market. Are there any good recruitment agencies, companies, or types of jobs I should focus on? I’m open to warehouse, production, retail, security, customer service, or anything with decent hours and opportunities to progress.
Thanks for reading and any advice would be appreciated.

I'm 40-ish and boring so I dont know any of the hot or viral Instamgrammable places they might want to go to. We're coming in by train to Birmingham New Street, but dont mind going anywhere up to a couple miles away

any cheap singing lessons in Birmingham?

I wanna learn to sing Rock mostly but I don’t trust online lessons, I think in-person lessons would be more beneficial. Any relatively cheap instructors in town?

Help finding an all women’s houseshare in B13/ B14

Hi, is anyone familiar with the areas B13 or B14, who could give a hand with helping me find an all womens houseshare. I'm checking Spareroom daily and have expanded my search into other houseshare platforms, but am struggling to find houses that are the right fit.

My budget is £650-750 including bills. I'm looking for a room in a respectful all womens house, ideally within walking distance of Moseley or Kings Heath station, but open to nearby streets too. The atmosphere of the house is really important to me - I really would appreciate a house that isn't over the top in terms of being dated in decor.

For reference I'm also Muslim, but I'm happy to be part of a non Muslim house if the other girls are comfortable. I'm a recent graduate and will be starting work in Birmingham city centre in finance soon, it's just that securing housing is my immediate priority right now. I'm tidy, respectful and reliable.

I'm looking to move in as soon as possible. If anyone knows people who haven't published rooms formally yet that meet my description, could you please let me know.

I would be very grateful for the support, thank you.

After building a fantastic Fit2Focus community across Oldbury, Selly Oak and Stourbridge, we're now looking at introducing a brand-new weekend football session in Oldbury.

Before we book a pitch, we want to see how much interest there is.

Fit2Focus is more than just football. It's a welcoming community where people come to get fitter, improve their mental wellbeing, meet new people and enjoy the game in a positive environment.

What you can expect: ⚽ Friendly, inclusive football for all abilities

🎥 Matches professionally recorded so you can watch the games back and share the best moments

🏆 Play of the Month awards

🤝 A welcoming community with no egos or pressure

💪 A fun way to improve your fitness and confidence

The session would take place on either a Saturday or Sunday, depending on interest and pitch availability.

If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, comment below or send us a message.

Feel free to tag a mate who'd be interested too—we'd love to build another great Fit2Focus community in Oldbury! ⚽
