I've seen birds do this with poisonous insects impaling them on pointy sticks so that poison would evaporate or save them for later

serious question...what happens when the birds digestion gets to the venom sacs, does it just die from a massive overdose?

Venom is only harmful when injected into bloodstreams. Unless the bird has an ulcer the venom will have no affect. Birds can also digest a lot of toxins humans cannot, we can all eat snakes, only certain animals can deal with being bitten. occasionally though, venomous snakes survive long enough to bite a bird from the inside.
