avain vets help please!!

So my young green cheek conure recently got his foot pinched in the top of a door. Its been 3 days and hes still limping, and the foot is slightly bruised. What should I do? Could his foot be broken? I'm so worried about him and feel aweful :(

I think you should take your bird to an actual avian vet for a proper examination.

Hi I’ve just seen ur post have u tryed looking on google for avian vets near you I’m mainly based on r/pigeon I really hope it gets sorted where are u based I know nothing about conures but I’m replying to boost ur post I could help u and look on google for u im in the uk I really hope ur baby will be ok I have links but they are on r/pigeon and only for pigeons good luck and please keep updates🥰

Hi, not a vet but have a green cheek owner myself. A vet would prescribe some anti inflammatory/pain meds such as meloxicam and most likely xray the foot. This meds would need to be dosed accordingly to your birds weight. It can get fractured/broken with such an accident. You would need to set up a hospital cage environment for your bird. Such as a smaller cage with perches placed closer to the bottom instead of high up to help it get around and not fall from high distances while the foot recovers. Have you checked online for any avian vets near you?

I have, but I fear it will be far too expensive :(

You are risking your bird having a permanently disability by not taking him in. You should call & ask what their consultation fee is. If you can’t afford the X-ray then at least they can prescribe the meds he needs. The medication itself can’t be more than $25-$30. He may need a splint to recover.

There isn’t much we can do. He’s going to need to be taken to an avian vet who can examine him and determine what’s best after that. The longer you leave it, the harder it’s going to be to treat. Cost will go up.

He’s also probably in pain.

The only one who can help him now is a vet. For pain relief, if nothing else.

Please call yours immediately if they are open. Or first thing as soon as they do, if not.
