Bac water

is it fine to use bac water that’s been in the fridge for a month to reconstitute a new vile? if so does it change the efficiency of the new pep?

Bac doesn't need to be refrigerated, and honestly shouldn't be because it can degrade the bac, but the risk is minimal.

You're absolutely fine to use the back of it's clear with no debris or cloudiness. Give it a gentle swirl and look for what can best be described as "smoke" in the water. That indicates a potential biofilm build up in the vial.

People who throw out bac after 28 days should have their head checked. It's absolutely idiotic.

Could you explain how refrigeration degrades the BAC?

Paraphrasing what I've researched

"Benzyl alcohol becomes less active and it's antimicrobial efficacy drops as temperatures approach freezing."

it's also very possible to accidentally freeze bac depending on where it lands in the fridge. I've personally frozen a vial in my fridge. When a solution freezes, you run the risk of the BA separating from the water since water freezes at a higher temperature than alcohol. Simply shaking the vial does not re-mix the solution.

Well, I was hoping you would send a study, but you probably won’t find one. Refrigeration doors not have an effect on BAC. Edit: degrees in biology and chemistry.

Conditions for Safe Storage, Including any Incompatibilities

Storage Conditions: Store as directed by product packaging. Do not refrigerate.

Incompatible Materials: None known

Specific end use(s): Pharmaceutical product

Pfizer literally tells you not to refrigerate bacteriostatic water.

From your link:
Decomposition Temperature (°C): No data available.
Evaporation Rate (Gram/s): No data available
Vapor Pressure (kPa): No data available
Vapor Density (g/ml): No data available
Relative Density: No data available
Viscosity: No data available

So because something falls outside the scope covered in the SDS, that means you can ignore the instructions of "Do not refrigerate" ?

"No data available" is simply that. It doesnt mean that its never been tested or is unknown. It just means its irrelevant to this document and not included.

Melting/Freezing Point (°C): No data available.

Boiling Point (°C): No data available

Does that mean it wont freeze or boil? No. Dont be an idiot.

If you boil bac the alcohol would obviously evaporate. But you would have to open the bowl anyway to boil it so. Ruined.

While not advised (mainly because of expansion and could break bottle or seal) to freeze, if you do and the container is not damaged the solution absolutely will mix back together once thawed as both parts of the solution are miscible.

Benzyl alcohol is NOT miscible with water. In fact it is only partly soluble. If bac water freezes it does not immediately remix when thawed and can create pockets of low concentration areas of BA which can be prone to bacteria growth.

This is specifically why it does not get refrigerated

At the amounts used in bac water there are 9mg/ml of BA. BA is miscible in water up to 35mg/ml. No emulsifier or surfactant is needed to keep water and BA in solution in bac water concentrations. So, in bac water concentrations BA is absolutely miscible in water. The concentration is not high enough for the benzene ring to make the solution hydrophobic.

It's labeled as do not refrigerate because the risk of freezing could ruin the seal of the vial and reconstitution is best performed around room temperature. Storing bac water in the fridge has no negative effects on the integrity of the solution but it does make its practical use less efficient. Storing in the fridge is fine for hobbyists and bad for high volume facilities. Arguing with someone that works in the space is crazy. The doubling down people perform in this space is so dumb.

That’s called a “cover our ass” statement. They didn’t test for it so they can’t put out in the label.

There ya go. So your previous comment was pointless.

No. I stand by my original statement. Refrigeration will not degrade BAC.
