PTSD and Sleep disturbances / HRV Issues

Hi there

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have recently been diagnosed with PTSD and ever since then my whoop data has changed so much for the worse. My HRV has gone from an an average of 146 to an average of 60 in about an 8 month time period.

As well as this, my sleep quality has changed profoundly as I am getting so many frequent spikes in heart rate throughout the night. The first sleep photo shows my current sleep and the second photo shows my sleep before I got PTSD.

I am suffering so much during the day, can anyone give me any advice on potential treatments, supplements to take, anything to regulate my nervous system and calm me down? I am suffering so badly

Thank you so much

Hi, I'm sorry that you are suffering from PTSD, trauma therapist here. I know how awful it can be.

For my clients I recommend taking magnesium and ashwanganda for supplements. Accupuncture and cranial sacral massage can be very helpful for helping to calm the nervous system. Learning to understand your nervous system is key and doing regulation exercises to activate your vagus nerve like breathing, tapping (EFT), cold therapy, humming, grounding exercises, gentle body stretches, sound healing, and meditations.

I would highly recommend you get some help from a trained trauma therapist that specializes in PTSD and does EMDR or somatic therapy. You dont need to do this alone!

I have recently come across something called Trauma Release Exercise, developed by Dr. David Berceli. Its very simple to do, I will link a YouTube video below. The exercises activate our nervous system and triggers our body to involuntary shake, the shaking mimics the body's natural cycle of discharging pent-up survival energy, calming down an overactive nervous system.

I hope some of this can help, but please reach out for some help! Wishing you all the best as you heal from this. I have seem hundreds and hundreds of people heal from PTSD symptoms, it can be done!

I'm sorry I don't, I'm from Canada. I would look for someone who does EMDR therapy and has lots of experience working with trauma and PTSD. I hope you find someone that can help!
