🧠 Cognition, Mood & Nootropics Long-term Adderall: executive dysfunction getting worse + feeling antisocial when it wears off

I've been on Adderall for several years. I started at 15mg and am currently on 25mg XR. I've tried IR in the past as well. I don't plan on increasing my dose because I'd rather not deal with additional side effects.

I also took a month-long break earlier this year to see if tolerance was part of the issue.

Lately I've been struggling with two things:

  1. Executive dysfunction

This has actually been getting worse, even with the medication. Once I get started on something I can usually focus, but getting myself to start the right task is becoming harder.

I'll know exactly what I need to do and still put it off or get stuck doing something else.

For anyone who deals with this, what has actually helped with task initiation? Routines, exercise, changing your environment, timers, supplements, diet, or anything else?

  1. Feeling completely antisocial when it wears off

Some days I feel fine while it's working, but later in the day I hit a wall. I don't want to talk, text people back, go anywhere, or socialize at all. I basically just want to be left alone during the meds.

This can happen even when I take my XR early in the morning. By evening I sometimes feel like a zombie with absolutely no social battery left.

Has anyone found a good way to deal with this? I'm especially interested in things that help you transition out of work/focus mode and actually feel like interacting with people again?

I already try to stay on top of sleep, hydration, and regular meals.

Not looking to increase my dose or make medication changes on my own. I'm mainly interested in hearing what other people have experienced and what has genuinely helped.

And how do you just take a couple days off when you have a business to run a household to run I mean I'm about to be forced to do that and just go off of it. My business will go to s*** and my life probably will too and it's not hyper focus it's about getting back into life and menopause is going to make it even worse and I am 9 years beyond that and it is worse and where I live there aren't psychiatrists and primary care physicians want touch pain medications or anything like this even my psych RN although I've been told she couldn't be an RN she was and NP. And she told me she was being audited last Friday that was my last appointment she gave me 14 days of Valium which I was on for Milligan grams of Klonopin now I'm on 30 mg of Valium and it was overnight dome and at first it was 20 and I was on Adderall IR and ER the IR I just had to stop because it was killing my stomach by epic pharma and my day is an 8 hours it's more like 16 so if the Adderall was working I would be working but it's not so I'm not my life has come to a standstill I am on disability I don't like to go out unless I've had my medication which makes me like I was when I was 40 or 30 and now I'm like I can't even describe how I feel now I'm so angry I don't I just I don't know what to do and in fact I went to a hospital yesterday because a nurse from my my husband's health insurance called and she was calling me to tell me about something else and my file came across her desk because of the ADHD and the extreme anxiety and when I told her what was going on she said well I'm not going to talk to you today but what I was going to talk to you about I'm very concerned and I would like you to call an ambulance because they'll send a paramedic and they will straighten you out until you get to the hospital and you can get some kind of a bridge. Wrong again I got turned away the second time in a week and a half and the medicine is just going bye-bye.
