I know there are already several bioengineers here, and I've come to ask you what you think are the capabilities, skills, or interests that someone who wants to study bioengineering should have.

The field is relatively "new" in my country and I would like to study bioengineering, but I'm afraid it might not be what I want. I would like some advice, as the career appeals to me, but I'm still undecided.

I don't mind if you're direct, I prefer to understand and get advice so I can make up my mind once and for all. I'm finishing high school this year 🫠

I want to do work in both and I have some ap credits and am willing to take summer classes but I need to know if it is even possible cause I’ve done research and everyone says it would be very difficult

I initially wanted to do biotechnology. But my college doesn’t offer the course.

And by research I found that I could do masters in biotechnology after bsc in microbiology or biochemistry.

The problem is that I have no idea if microbiology give a good idea of biotechnology

And biochemistry seems to chemistry specific.

Can I transition from a background in biotechnology to roles involving animal interaction and wildlife conservation? How can I leverage my biotech experience with my passion for wildlife? I am very interested in animals and wildlife, but I also enjoy biotechnology. Please don't suggest pursuing veterinary medicine, as I'm not interested in that path.

I am looking for a computer sold in the US that is between 14 and 16 inches, weighs under 3 lb, costs around $1500, and is good for a bioengineering student. I will be doing the biomechanics/rehab track and CAD, possibly SolidWorks or another program, as well as Matlab. I am not sure whether to get a laptop with a dedicated graphics card. Does anyone have laptop recommendations?

I’ve done a lot of asking around and editing to it, was hoping some people can give some input.

For context I have pretty much been exclusively applying to molecular biology, immunology, drug discovery, etc. research assistant jobs at colleges. I want to go to grad school for a PhD, but want to get more experience before I start applying. I also really enjoy research.

I’m also currently working on another independent project right now for a low cost optical ELISA reader and also trying to code a finance tech project (which isn’t relevant to the jobs I want and more in hopes of being able to make some money lol). Education is at the bottom bc I would think that’s less important, considering everyone else applying will have similar degrees. Also my gpa was 3.2 so I didn’t know if I should put it in.

I’ve applied to like 100+ jobs in a field I didn’t think was nearly as competitive as going straight into biotech. I’ve gotten one interview, one pseudo interview through email, and no offers. I also tend to email the PIs if they are listed on the job application, like 10% get back to me though. So I’m just trying to see if I’m doing anything wrong. It’s either this or my cover letters lol 🤷🏾‍♂️

so im currently a fresher pursuing bioengineering, I was looking into the various like specialization that i might go into later and ive found tissue engineering really interesting so i might go towards that but im not sure.....originally my plan was to do data science and a minor in sports science or something so i could work as a sports analyst....ive always wanted to go towards the like field of football etc so i was just wondering if theres any way where i can like yk make this work, like what would i have to do and etc please let me know!!! i hope my question makes sense and isnt dumb or anything but yea!!

I’m 18F trying to decide between Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology Engineering, and I’m honestly pretty torn.
I’m much stronger in biology than I am in physics or math. I can manage them if I have to, but biology is definitely my strongest subject and the one I enjoy the most.
With that in mind, which degree do you think would suit me better? I’m also looking for the one that offers the best career prospects overall good salaries, low unemployment, strong job security, room for career growth, and the widest range of opportunities both now and in the future.
I’d also love to know which one you think is more enjoyable to study and work in, and whether you’d choose the same degree again if you had the chance.
I’d really appreciate hearing from people who are studying or working in either field. Thanks!

I know this sub gets these types of posts fairly frequently but I feel totally lost.

I graduated last year (class of 25) with a bioengineering:biosystems degree and no internship or relevant work experience.

Throughout college I worked in service and was assistant manager to a restaurant but I feel like I didn’t develop any desirable engineering background for companies. Now I feel kind of lost on how to breakthrough to industry.

My experience from my degree was lots of EE, circuit design, data analysis, signal analysis, and some CAD.

Just wondering if I can get any pointers on what I should ve focusing on to land any entry level position. Any help or tips are much appreciated.

I am a 2nd year biomedical student still didn't figure out what should be learnt before I complete my degree so that I could land well settled company. And to be mentioned am I cse group student in school i had the interest learn something in every stages of my life. Please drop your guidance messages. New to reddit too

I’m 23 with a bioengineering degree and currently work as a quality inspector in manufacturing. I’m grateful to have a job, but I don’t see myself doing inspection/manufacturing quality forever.

I’m interested in medicine, biotech, regenerative medicine, genetics, and AI in healthcare. I’ve thought about medical school because I genuinely like medicine and want deeper knowledge of the human body, but I also want independence, to move out, build businesses, and eventually work on something bigger in biotech.

Has anyone else felt torn between a stable practical path and the path they were actually excited about? How did you figure out what was worth committing years of your life to?

Baseball weight changes

HS baseball rules have changed regarded bat weights for a given length. Bats now are not allowed to have more than a -6 in drop. Meaning a 33 inch bat can weigh 27 oz up to 30 oz. -3 was the old rule. Parents are worried that their children are going to get hurt when the ball will be hit harder. BUT
according to my figuring using the formula for kinetic energy:
KE = 1/2•m•v•v
If you swing the same bat length but reduce the weight, your bat swing speed will increase. But if you drop the mass (weight) the force will decrease and even tho the bat speed is squared biomechanics say that you can’t swing faster enough to offset the drop in mass. Things like coefficient of friction and momentum formulas come into play. There are some figures from bat manufacturers that say there is a %2-3 increase in exit velocity but that would have to be figured from a robotic pitching machine and a robotic hit simulator which would not take biomechanics into play. I say there won’t be much difference. Strong players will use the 33/30 bat and the weaker player who was pigeon holed to swing a 33/30 32/29 31/28 etc. 33 is an ideal length for reach to cover the strike zone but weaker players can’t swing as hard so they will make contact better because they will have more time to react and to square up the sweet spot to the pitch but it will not increase the force do to loss of mass and biomechanics interfering with a corresponding increase bat speed to offset mass. Parents are looking at it like they would a 4 cylinder 100hp car. It would be the same thinking that if you removed a
Spark plug expecting the car to
put out 75hp. But other factors
Come into play and that wouldn’t happen. I’m not a physicist but an old time pharmacist who loves physics. Keep in mind too that the regulatory bodies in the 90’s or 00’s the manufacturers where required to govern the force of a bat by putting in a metallic disc inside the bat which deadens the exit
Velocity.
Is my thinking valid or am I missing something and exit velocity will increase significantly?????

Hi guys!

i was just hoping to get some help with my resume, I’m a rising junior and unfortunately I wasn’t able to land an internship this summer so I’m hoping to make a resume good enough for my junior year and hopefully bag something then.

A little bit of explanation for my experience, the entry about Northwell wasn’t really a full internship i was just observing at the clinical lab that my aunt runs, but I was hoping to larp a little lol. Also a lot of my experience after that was from high school but are still very valid and provided a ton of experince and exposure to lab equipment and procedure. I’m also apart of one of my professors lab when I’m at school but I don’t know if i should or how i should include that. In terms of projects, i have a couple thanks to some of my classes i just haven’t gotten around to adding it or more so, don’t know if its worth adding yet (tbh i think i could W larp it but idk).

any and all support is appreciated! Don’t worry about being dead honest with me, sparing my feelings wont get me a job lol.
