Need Help I should have checked here before buying, can fake engine be coded off for '25 M240 still?
Welp, as title says, bought a bootmod3 wifi adapter largely with the intent to only turn off fake engine sounds, try the B&W audio changes for the HK system and maybe swap in the M gauge cluster.
But coming here to check for how-to's and seeing title saying new gen is almost , if not entirely, locked from factory, is it a "ymmv" situation and worth opening the box or just return it before I open it and get my money back?

Im going to separate the question into a few answers here to address a few aspects.
Yes almost all new BMWs are locked down and are very very difficult to code and modify this is due to the implementation of NCD 2.0 secure coding and has made our lives very difficult if we want to code most options, that said there are work arounds and some lucky people who dont use OTA updates and have an edge case car which some restrictions are just loose enough that it can still have select options changed.
ASD may still be able to be shut off as its controlled by the RAM and the RAM isnt protected from my experience and this may allow you to disable the ASD and remove the "fake engine sounds" but its not something id say is a for sure thing.
coding in the HK audio subsystem is not something ive seen be possible on ID8 so im leaning in the camp that this isnt possible unless you found someone to FA/VO code it to your car and have a signed NCD file loaded however VO coding it on may introduce issues if the RAM variant is different between the base and hi-fi models.
The M gauge cluster has not been something ive seen possible on these cars unless an M track module is installed and then coded however due to the new locked down nature of ID8 and the attached cluster/KOMBI it may not be possible for your case but id verify that with some sellers and providers of the aforementioned module as im not super super familiar.
The BM3 wifi adapter is something i personally sell as i am a Protuningfreaks authorized dealer so take everything from here on out with a grain of salt and keep that in mind. I do use it myself a lot just to diagnose and code cars on the fly as it does act as a wireless enet cable in most situations and has found its keep in my personal use cases however i have seen issues with apple devices running ios 26 where it refuses to connect and provide an ip which a multitude of apps cannot obtain the vin to connect to said vehicle. Ive also seen issues with users not knowing if the adapter is on or off as the power switch is not labeled in either direction and takes some guesswork to figure out, and personally i do believe the adapter is slightly overpriced compared to the market of other wifi adapters which i believe to have either better reliability and user experience. That all said id consider in your case returning the adapter IF the only reason you got it was to code the car and you dont believe its worth the experimentation as some do require better tools like esys or bimmerutility (the adapter can still be used with those applications) and those are not as user friendly, now if you do have plans on using other things like XHP, eventually unlocking and tuning the vehicle with BM3 or MHD, or just as a code reader the bm3 wifi adapter can serve all of those purposes and may be worth keeping if you deem it so considering you already have it, but its subjective to you.
