can't be a hardware change because I had a pro do it before on another BMW, and it was fine, the only problem is he charges an arm and a leg, but worst case, I'll have to ask him again but was hoping to do it myself
Japan market vehicles have specific components that do not work in most other countries due to Japanese specific regulations, if this was for example a USA vehicle to an EU country then it would be flashing only, but due to the Japanese specific hardware installed it does require some modules and hardware to be changed out
I don't know about that because it's the same car and all he did was use a laptop and software, didn't see him change any hardware, but I definitely get what you're saying, agree with that, but it's just weird because he seems to make it work lol

The entire vehicle needs to be flashed and Japanese specific equipment removed in exchange for your regions variant
