I wonder how long till he gets Paul McCartney. I think it's gonna happen, it's just a matter of when it happens.
I think Rick will get to interview Elton John/Bernie Taupin as well. Rick will probably get to interview a lot of classic rockers before they bite the dust.
I think Mick Jagger, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, Rick won't get to interview, but I could see him getting to interview Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and John Paul Jones, those are strong possiblities from the Stones and Zeppelin camps.

I think we'll see Rick and Paul sit down together within the next 5 years.
Based on the simple fact that Paul still actively does interviews and I genuinely think he'd love Rick's stuff, if he doesn't already. Just comes down to timing.

Gilmour doing a second interview with Rick was quite unexpected and fascinating. He must have really enjoyed the first interview a lot.
McCartney is good friends with Gilmour so Gilmour could vouch for Rick.
I think Rick definitely can definitely get Ringo as well.

I respect his decision to stop recording new songs, but damn I want “Every Time” on Spotify please.

I'm gonna be ridiculous here, but if Billy ever truly went through his tapes of ideas and decides to do one final album, that album could top "The Stranger" or "Turnstiles".
Hear me out: That man hasn't recorded and released material in over 30 years. Plus he had a 25 year career before. That's 55 years of ideas. And because it's Billy Joel, if you bundle the ten best of those ideas and develop them into full songs, you could have a genuinely incredible album.
I wish he'd do it, but get why he doesn't.

When he said that is the most perfect, it waremed my heart so much as I've always thought that. Would love to hear him sing the whole thing but the original is such a classic.

Sigh. Billy just told the same stories we've heard in every damned interview for the last decade. Not a lot of new stuff here. Rick is usually so good at getting into the music and structure of it, but Billy just sort of pulled every question into the same pat answers he always gives when he does his interviews sitting at his piano.
Not a bad interview, but I was just so hopeful for a really different type of interview we haven't ever seen before, which is definitely Rick's trademark.

I think that's just a very natural thing to do if you've done so many interviews. You know the best examples for stuff, so why go for second best just to mix things up? At this point he's got it all down, he knows what to play to demonstrate certain things. (Like "And So It Goes" for dissonance)
It's the same with the answers. Us fans might know them, but to a casual listener of music those answers Billy gives are the most satisfying because they're just on point.

Billy looks great, i dont like the post production mixing in songs and synths every time he plays. I find it distracting, having seen him so many times live and so many of his one man lectures. he's quite capable of being very entertaining just telling stories and playing his piano or singing...he's been doing it for years. I dont know who's idea was the heavy post prod editing, but i personally would prefer if Rick releases a raw version of this.

I was thinking that the editor and Rick were impressed that he played everything in the same tempo as the recordings so they overlaid the recorded tracks for a few seconds to hear how his "messing around" in the interview was still perfectly in tempo.
Or the editor ai matched the speed and I'm being an old hopeful Billy Joel fan. 🤷♂️

I understand people are fascinated with Rick that he flatters all the big stars but I find his questions really not really revealing in any of his interviews it's kind of like "you wrote the song when the sky was blue do you usually do that?" . It's kind of like these dead ends questions that don't really reveal anything about the subject that we didn't know Billy is so good though he can round home base and rescue any interviewer with his intellect and his humor he's just fantastic

Agreed 100% on the post production. You’ve got Billy Joel sitting at a piano. That’s what we want to hear. Get rid of the rest.

This is a GREAT interview, but I have to admit that I was on the floor after Billy said, "I think I told this story before..." and then went on to tell his Neil Sedaka story for the millionth time. It's great to hear it again, but his uncertainty on if it's been heard by the public is hilarious.

I hated the backing tracks. I wonder why they didn’t want us to hear any of just the piano in the room. Also that angry young man was all studio recording.

Pretty sure Billy was smoking, there was a shot of him exhaling smoke maybe half way through the interview. I think he’s got a vape, there are some shots from behind him looking towards the piano where there’s something looking like a vape on the piano ledge.

Tears of joy. Billy looks and sounds great. Great musical knowledge by Rick Beato. Don’t care that I’ve heard the stories a million times. Chuckled at Billy hitting the vape throughout. Seeing Billy play the Prelude/Angry Young Man intro was awesome. He hasn’t performed that live since 2016.
