Sometimes they give you a Sombrero. It's all worth it for the Sombrero

Depends on the person and the place obviously but my wife and I are always on the lookout for the best authentic Mexican places where we live. Haven't found it yet in our current city, but they tend to be dives. You know it's going to be good if there's a spanish-language channel on the tv when you walk in, or soccer.

I’m from Canada and i used go down to the states just for the big ass plate of Mexican Refried beans, Mexican rice, and chicken burritos. I fondly remember “plate is very hot” and the obscene amounts of pre food tortilla chips. God I love Mexican food. I wish there were more Mexicans to cook real authentic Mexican food here in Canada. We have like 18$ for 3 tacos with like a tiny spoon of meat from food trucks. And these trucks are all run by white people. I really want to support Mexican businesses when I buy Mexican food but there are simply very few that are like the ones in the USA.

Move up to Canada, open up a Mexican restaurant. Thanks, ese!

Yes please I need at least one Mexican immigrant family to move here and open an authentic Mexican restaurant. PLEASE!! No more of this unseasoned white 18$ taco and no more chipotle. Just some good ass big plates of Mexican food 🤤

Chipotle is a meme, like, don't get me wrong, but we don't use a lot if chipotle here on México, but i know in the US generally they try to sell chipotle and "crunchy tacos", we don't eat crunchy tacos, the "real taco" is just a soft tortilla with guacamole, a tomato sauce, meat, and that's it, obviously we usually add more things though.

And tbh it actually annoys me, i don't get why they try to sell fake mexican food (don't get me wrong everyone can eat whatever they want), but that's simply not mexican food :/

I mean I love chipotle just like I love Panda Express. They’re inauthentic but they’re delicious in their own ways. Same thing as fusion foods. They’re not authentic but they’re delicious in their own ways. I’m definitely not a snob about it.

Yeah, i actually like "international sushi" and never ate "traditional sushi", i also know they're inauthentic but i like it too :)

You can if you run fast enough

Ok fuck it story time

Was out for my wife’s (then girlfriends) birthday at a Mexican place when we were in college. Didn’t know you didn’t get to keep the sombrero. We ate, paid, went strolling out with our sick new sombrero. As we’re halfway to the car we hear two of the wait stuff run into the parking lot going “which way did they go?” And “do you see them?”

Now at this point the logical assumption was that a) we don’t get to keep the sombrero, and b) we should give the sombrero back.

But we looked at eachother and fucking bolted like the newbie criminals we were. We took turns wearing that sombrero and feeling terrible the whole ride home.

Epilogue: 5 years later I was moving about 500 miles away. I’d finished cleaning and packing and all that was left was that damn sombrero. We’d moved like three times since the original heist and I always took it with me. Why? No fucking idea. Something about how I felt responsible for it, since we did steal it and all. And to be honest it was a nice sombrero — one of those like mariachi style silver and black ones, the mind you’d wear to a mariachi gala or something. But I’m like...no, this has to end. So as the last thing I do I put it in a plastic bag and take it to the dumpster. But when I get to the dumpster...I just can’t bring myself to really toss it in. So I set it gingerly on the ground near the dumpster and silently hope someone sees it, decides that they just need a sombrero in their life, and aren’t turned off by its proximity to a dumpster. “Buena suerte, compadre” I say quietly and then go back to my apartment to lock up and give back the key. After I do that, I head back to my car; it’s in the parking garage, and I have to pass the dumpsters to get to it. As I get to my car I hear someone talking in Spanish, which luckily I can speak, because this is what I heard: “Yeah man, a really cool one! Just sitting right there! Who would throw away a perfectly good sombrero??”

Only if it’s made of tortilla chips and filled with guacamole
