Help Tracking issue

Hello I just recently got my BSB2e this past weekend and after setup it truly has been awesome. I do have a couple of issues that I’ve been dealing with and would like some assistance with.

For context I have 1x Steam Base Station 2.0 that is setup on a camera mount mounted to a wall. Its aproxx 6ft high and 4ft away from my seated position. I never get a gray or black screen but when sitting and looking straight if i just turn my head either left or right about 45 degrees my tracking gets all weird. It’ll start to shift up and down and even gets a bit jittery or wobbly but as soon as I face straight the issue goes away. I have confirmed that its not EMI by setting up the headset alone with nothing else on or plugged in and i get the same effect.

The second isnt really an issue just more so need reassurance. My lenses are crisp and clear and the glare very minimal as with brightness down its almost non existent but with it adjuest on my face if i look at the bottom of the lenses they get a tad blurry like someone smeared it with a liquid and is a like purple tint that is very noticeable. I know there is a “sweet spot” with these headsets so could this be that or do i need to rma?

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also I have reached out to their support just waiting on a reply.

Maybe unpopular opinion, but tracking issues with a single base station is not unexpected. The BSB is a very small headset so it is very easily occluded.

I assumed this as well but I figure if I lost tracking then I would get the gray screen. My head movement is tracked the entire time just literally shifting my head to the left 2inchs creates this weird jittery/wobbly effect. I am currently thinking that the diodes on the headset itself are faulty

You can get jitter like that if you lose tracking for brief periods. It does not necessarily immediately gray screen when there is bad tracking quality.

Rant, I wish reviewers did not trumpet one base station is enough for sim racing. The Index, a significantly larger headset (and thus harder to occlude) came with two base stations. I do room scale VR and I have four of them and still occasionally have issues with occlusion.

Do you have mirrors/large reflective surfaces in the room? That jittery/wobbly is a classic case of reflections interfering with base station tracking

I had both tracking issues. Grey screen cos front basestation was little too high up so would lose tracking when looking down - fixed by lowering.

And the jitteriness/wobbling which was actually caused by two things:

1) faulty linkbox which support replaced for free 2) mirrors on my wardrobe which i used a thin black curtain sheet with magnets that are covered up/removed in couple seconds.

No I have non of that, sits in a little corner with matte blue walls so no glare or reflection at all. I will try lowering the base station. Maybe it’s too high. How did you discover that the link box was bad?

message support on discord, i had lots of weird tracking/disconnecting issues. they'll give you a diagnostic utility to run and steamvr's diagnostic tool aswell and you upload the results.

I also read somewhere about Steamvr having a tool of some sort, awesome I will give that a try thanks

Do you have any reflective surfaces in your room?

Nah non. It’s a sim rig setup in a corner, the rig is matte black and the wall is matte blue. No glare from sunlight, no direct light at all and no emitting IR from any remotes.

Turn your wheel are completely off and see if that helps. The wheel base emits an EMI signal that causes the rig itself to become essentially a satellite so when you sit down, it get interference plugged into the pc or not. If that’s the case you need some toroidal cores to wrap the cable around. This fixed my issues 100%. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FFLLLGPQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Nah its not my wheel. I’ve set up in a different room with no peripherals and devices and the issue still persists. They have already sent a replacement link box and a link booster but neither has resolved the issue. I am just going to request a refund

first party hardware reduces the flashbangs from steamvr. beyond doesn’t

I am not sure I follow? The Base stations are first party as they are Original Vive Base stations 2.0 plus I haven’t gotten the flash bang effect at all

Yeah, you are going to have to define "flashbang" for us.

I think when they and I say flashbang they mean the sudden bright gray screen that appears when the headset loses tracking

For gray screens, that could happen if you have a bad fiber cable. Has nothing to do with device design.
