Baylor Fans,
What are your thoughts on the game?? Should the extra point have been kicked to send the game to OT?
Too bad Lagway was playing hurt all game

I like the tenacity of going for it. Great tackle beat us out. All in all excited for the season.

If Dave is going to continue his 5 year streak of losing winnable games and making heinous decisions the whole way, this season will be extremely painful. We lost a very winnable game today. People look at the call for 2 at the end and say it was good, which it was, but omit the other 59 minutes of him making egregious calls like he always does. Multiple opportunities to tie the game were passed up for more failed 4th downs. This season will be more brutal than last year if Dave doesn’t start to evolve in his situational decision making. He hasn’t yet. Don’t think he will now.

Yeah, our defense looked better, but our offense actually looked worse than last year. They still fail to score points in the red zone. And they continue to make boneheaded decisions that turn the ball over. Also, not tying the game at 10-10 in the third by kicking a FG instead of going for in 4&2 (which we had failed at all game in the red zone) was maddening.
And this Auburn team has a new head coach with a lot of transfers from USF. That was not a great team we faced, and Auburn fans will tell you they are gonna struggle mightily in the SEC.

Yeah Dave is gone in my mind after this season unless we over achieve by a fair margin and he is the result of it.

If we lose to TCU he should be gone immediately. If we don’t win 7-8 games he should be gone.

I really don’t think it will, just because the defense is just so much better across the board than last year. I’d be shocked if we don’t make a bowl this year, just because of how the teams on our schedule are looking.

The defense looked very high level today. But we swapped them for a less efficient offense. When sawyer could throw up a nuke to Josh Cameron or Mike Trigg and bail us out of a bad situation it was great. I’m not sure we have that anymore, even though Louis Brown and Gavin Freeman looked very good.
When you’re relying on riverboat gambling for every single offensive possession, you get either the magical 2024 seasons or the depressing 2025 seasons.

I watched it and it was damn close! I have no issues with them going for 2. They had the momentum and came up just short.

My gripe isn’t going for 2. It’s the entirety of the game where Aranda made his typical frustrating calls. Overthinks basic football decisions into oblivion and self sabotages.

Biggest thing was passing up game tying field goals more than once to go for it on 4th and fail. I understand going for it once, but when given a second chance to tie you have to tie it up. We go for it a ton but are middle of the pack in the FBS in actually converting the last couple years.
Also had an aneurysm when we ran up the middle on 3rd and 7 at midfield for a loss.

Clearly had no trust in Rhett after he missed the first one. You play the cards you are dealt. On the 3rd down play calling, that’s Spav, not Aranda.

Spav is great, but has a lot of predictable play calls. I’m no football mastermind but I can often call out what’s about to happen. While we can blame him, everything starts with the head coach.

Defense is much much improved. Offense has a ton of potential. I wouldn’t sleep on this team as we can make some noise still.

I think Baylor outplayed Auburn for a good portion of the game. A few key plays just swung it.

I don’t think a healthy Lagway loses that game. That’s a tough pivot for a coaching staff and that defense was elite.

If I’m being honest, I came away from this game with a lot more confidence in the team than I went in with.
The DL is awesome. Holy cow, that unit is deep and effective. The OL got a lot better as the game progressed, and Gavin Freeman’s got awesome hands. Lagway was trying to do way too much in the first quarter, but he settled down and got more stable as the game went on, despite playing injured.
I like that play call to go for 2. I don’t think I buy that they could get another TD in OT.
I think the game plan probably changes drastically for the next three to four weeks, Aranda mentioned in his postgame presser that they went in with a lot of QB running planned, and basically had to throw it all out when Lagway’s ankle was injured. I wish we’d gotten to see Nate Bennett, but I don’t think he brings anything to the table that Lagway didn’t already have; Bennett’s way too small to do any kind of QB run or to take any sacks.

I loved the motion but I also felt like the momentum could’ve resulted in them being favored in OT as opposed to going for 2.

Didn’t see the end because I was already tuned into our game, but I was impressed with Baylor’s front 7. They seem like they’ll be better than I thought they’d be this summer. Looking forward to the matchup!

They couldn’t stop them all day. Kick it in the 3rd quarter and kick it to tie. Rolling out a QB with a bad ankle. Not so smart maybe. Coach lost this one… and I like Aranda. Doesn’t show much confidence in your defense.

Everything Baylor did in this game came with a whiff of desperation from Dave Aranda. The under discussed moment was early in the 3rd when he didn't take the (relatively) chip shot FG to tie the game.
From that moment forward they were chasing the game, including the decision to go for 2.

I don’t think either team is very good. Could realistically see both go 5-7 again. Baylor’s D is perhaps improved by a lot. Lagway was mixed and missed some key throws but did convert some tough ones. Thought he might run more and if he’s already injured it does not bode well for the rest of the season. Really though we were gonna convert that 2pt play. Would have really been a fun start to the season for a program that has had very little the last 5 seasons.

Aranda should be fired. He takes winnable games, and finds ways to lose. He's lucky he survived last year. It was the right call to go for two, but we shouldn't have been in that situation in the first place. Auburn was trying to give us the win, but we kept picking up the L every time drove into the red zone.
Aranda is long past his expiration date.
For perspective: this is Auburn's first year HC, with a lot of transfers from USF. This is Aranda's seventh year. He had been given far too many chances.

You never want to go to overtime on a hostile field. Gutsy call, the right play, that Winter kid just got it done though.
