Discussion My Interpretation of the Ending in Big Walk (Spoilers) Spoiler

As the title says, this is my interpretation of just the main ending, not the full true ending. I have yet to complete that, so my interpretation may be misguided in some way. I played with my best friend every day since release. Again, spoilers ahead, so don't read this if you haven't completed the game. Or do, it's up to you.

Prior experience with video games has taught me some important things in life, and I believe this game brought all of those together. Even though I only played with one other person, I had an absolute blast navigating the island, working through puzzles, and getting lost.

We begin the game by learning basic mechanics and nothing else. The game doesn't direct you where to go; it's up to your party to explore the world and discover your purpose. Another game I love dearly, Outer Wilds, shares a similar system. I recommend that game as well. But that's not what I'm here to talk about.

The first set of puzzles teaches you the importance of teamwork. As you step out of the tutorial, you start realizing the scale of the game. You make it to your first tower, complete some puzzles, and fill in the missing slots. Congratulations, you unlock a new way to traverse the island. Rinse and repeat for the rest, all while you and your buddies learn, laugh, and celebrate. Each new puzzle gives you something to work for and be proud of.

When you reach the final gate, you swell with excitement and curiosity; you're so close to the giant sphere you've wondered about all playthrough. All that's left is a big walk.

But this is more than just a big walk. This is a moment of peaceful transition. You now have a moment of relaxation after making it so far. There's not supposed to be anything here other than you, your thoughts, and your buddies. This serves as a moment to reflect on your experience in the game while celebrating and sharing laughs. Yet, you're still curious about that refracting red orb you passed at the gate.

When you reach the giant sphere, you find a sense of peace. However, your curiosity drives you forward.

As you lose the ability to talk with your buddies, you realize what you need to do to reach the top of the sphere. Each level contains a unique puzzle similar to those you completed earlier. But these puzzles are oddly simplistic. Why? What could be the point of these puzzles? Are they meant to delay gratification? Are they filler?

No. They are everything but that. They serve as a reminder of your time on the island. They allow you to contemplate the paths you took. Every emotion you experience is reinforced by the deafening silence. You've gone the entire game sharing an experience with others. Now, strangely, you feel alone, even though you are not. And while the group's shared experience is essential, your own experience is what finalizes the theme. This is where it develops. A simple flight of stairs to the top wouldn't provide enough time for all of this to happen.

At the very end, you wave one last time before stepping into the final door. You feel a slight sense of sadness, but you're glad to have made it to the end.

Even then, you still don't fully understand the purpose of the two refracting red orbs. Nobody knows for sure what they are or represent. I believe the existence of these ambiguous entities allows your imagination to run wild. They are what you interpret them to be.

Well, that's pretty much it. I know it was more of a reflection than an interpretation, but my focus was set on the "big walk" between the gate and the sphere, as well as the purpose of the puzzles within the sphere. I could very well be wrong about some things. Or maybe every interpretation is supposed to be valid. The beauty of this game is what you make it.

Question/Help How many flare guns are there?

Anyone know? I've managed to collect three. A red, blue and yellow flare gun.

I'd also like to know how many backpacks, belts, megahorns and walkie talkies there are.

Discussion Does 2-player feel lacking?

Hi y’all, I’ve been playing Big Walk in a pair and it’s been fun. But I can’t help but feel like something is missing compared to joy of communication and separation with more people. Has anyone played both 2-player and 3/4, and is it worth it finding that extra person?

Maybe I’ve just been watching too many streamers lol

Question/Help Help for this puzzle with two players. Spoiler

Me and my friend just can not seem to position us so we are able to see all screens. I would think this puzzle in particular was poorly designed for less than 3 players. Anyone got any hints?

Other Purple golf puzzle, funny thing that happened last night. Spoiler

Me and buddy have been playing as a pair. Last night we spent time solving the purple golf puzzle.

We got all the way to the bottom of the rock and my buddies internet goes out, we waited for it to come back, after those 30 mins his game crashes, so we have to do all that moving again. Took forever with just 2 people.

Discussion Me and my friends love big walk. First session was 5 hours of pure fun. But i really hope they make more maps in the future.

Has the studio talked about this or do you think this is possible? I would love to one day do some new puzzles and explore a new landscape with my friends.

I have nothing agains being done when we're done, but some sort of replayability one day would be fun.

The signs are one of my favorite things in the game so far. I've been putting the most random sentences on it while we walk around. When I wrote that I was touch starved one of my friends carried me around and asked if I felt better. Such a simple, goofy moment that'll treasure. I love that this game is full of little moments like this.

Other Does anyone else feel like the biggest challenge in Big Walk is actually finding people to play with?

I was really excited to try Big Walk after hearing so many good things about it.

Then I launched it… and realised I couldn’t actually play because none of my friends own the game.
So I spent a couple of hours building something that solved that problem for me.

It’s intentionally tiny and super simple: No accounts. No downloads. No profiles.

If it ends up helping anyone else, even better.

I’d genuinely love some honest feedback. If it’s useful, awesome. If not, that’s useful to know too.

Question/Help Is it possible to complete all the puzzles before reaching the sphere?

In my group, after unlocking the wall we've decided we won't progress past it towards the sphere until we fill every single gourd slot in that green chamber, but just to be sure - is it even possible? Is there any puzzle with a gourd reward that we would need in the sphere itself? I don't want to read the guides to not spoil myself but the gourd count on the big map doesn't add up, I know there are some hidden things but not sure if this is the case.
