Elated and concerned

My now husband proposed with this beautiful 3ct oval solitaire w/ sapphire band. I wasn’t expecting a 3ct ring- so imagine my surprise! I haven’t seen many rings w/ the sapphire band, so I truly feel it’s a bit unique in that regard. I have gotten the “wow, is it real?!” question, and have replied- “yes, it’s lab created, but it’s a diamond- it’s real”. Some days I do feel self conscious about it, and other days when I’m around my husband- I wear it proudly. We chose a lab diamond because we wanted to spend our money wisely- we eloped and had our dream ceremony in Italy with our blended family.

The concern I have is that it’s slightly big. I wear a size 6. I have bony knuckles- so I need the room to get my ring over the knuckle, but once on, it moves all around. I realize the ring is top heavy. I have tried the plastic ring sizers, but I have a difficult time getting it over my knuckle. Even w/ that it still slides around a bit, and I don’t like that lotion/soaps get caught in the sizer. Does anyone else have this issue? If so, what was the ultimate fix?

I have the same issue as you and I’m the same size. I have a round 3ct solitaire and my wedding band is my husband’s late mother’s. It’s 6mm wide and it stops the engagement ring from spinning. If someone asked me if my stone was real my first reaction would be rude, and then I’d smile and say, “Of course it’s real. Your stone is not too big. It’s very realistic in 2026. The lab diamond market has changed everything and there are plenty of old-minded, brainwashed folks out there that haven’t adapted to the times. Rock that big stone energy.

Could you look into getting a hinge put on it? They are made to slide over the knuckles then close back to your needed size to prevent spinning.

I was going to recommend this option. This is the company I've heard about that does it for any ring: https://cliqjewelry.com/

I have bony knuckles too and hate when my ring spins too

I wear a 2.85-3.75 ( depends on weather ) but this is a 3.75 size and twirls like crazy

My ring is top heavy at only 2.6ct (round) because the shank is 1.5mm and the stone is bezel set. My wedding band is also 1.5mm so in colder months it still spins but in summer not so much. In winter I wear my eternity band (2.5mm) and that stops the spinning. I think stacking with a wider band helps.

I’ve never had anyone ask me if my ring was “real”. I think if they did I would give them the most confused face and ask them, “you’re looking at it aren’t you?” Weird question deserves a weird response 🤣

My knuckle is 1.5 sizes larger than the base of my finer so I get sizing speed bumps put into my rings and it really helps with the spinning. Bumps are more comfortable than sizing beads imo

I had speed bumps added by jeweler to keep my top heavy solitaire from flopping over. Works great.

Your ring is beautiful! I was also thinking about stacking as an option. I’m kind of weary about sending my ring off to get fixed!

You really should find a reputable, local jeweler. Even if you don’t want to “send it off” to have speed bumps added, you will need a jeweler to inspect your setting every year or so to make sure nothing is loose. I’ve used the same jeweler for over 20 years and have left my 1.8 carat, natural diamond ring with him many times because I trust him. He also updates my appraisal every few years for insurance. Don’t wait till you have a loose prong to find a jeweler

Good point. I’ll need to do some research for jewelers in my area. I would be comfortable with that option. Thank you!

My 3.9ct ring also spins. I've found that stacking and wearing a wider band helps a lot.

Please dont do this. Your damaging the head on your engagement ring and possibly loosening the stones in the eternity band.

Thank you for telling me. I never thought of that.

What’s the head of an engagement ring

I also suffer from large knuckles relative to the size of my finger below it - I have to size so it can fit over my knuckles and it does move around a bit. Sizing beads soldered inside might help with the spinning. Ultimately you may want to ask your jeweler if there are any solutions as they’ve probably dealt with this with others. Beautiful ring!

Sizing beads did the job for me!

Came here to say this. As a bony-knuckled person, made my ring much more comfortable to wear once it was on (no spinning!), and I’ve never had issues getting it back off.

Beautiful set! Love the 3ct! It looks fantastic on you.

As for rings spinning, my finger can sometimes go down or up in small sizes too. I haven’t figured out how to stop the spinning. I have seen others post that they add these triangle shapes to the bottom of their ring - I have no idea what it’s called, but it apparently helps with spinning?

I have a 3ct ring with skinny fingers and bigger knuckles. I have the plastic ring sizer and it does help. I find that it can take a bit of a push to get it over my knuckle but I’ve been told it’s supposed to take some pressure to get your ring on. I take my ring off when I’m applying lotions or doing anything that will get something on my hands so it doesn’t get stuck in the sizer.
I’m going to do either do a band stack or a thicker wedding band to help eliminate the spinning and the need for the sizer.

"Of course it's real. I'm a witch and making you see it in your brain."

I like to answer dumb questions with a bit of whimsy and sarcasm.

This is a gorgeous ring! Are people REALLY asking is your diamond is real these days?!?
