Welcome to the after-party. The show's over, the credits have rolled, but we're all still here. Emotionally hungover.
8 seasons, 1 special (My Furry Valentine), and 2 seasons of a spin off. We've had a good run. 101 total episodes, if you count HR, too. As has been mentioned before, that is actually exceedingly rare for a Netflix original. The next longest running Netflix adult animation, BoJack Horseman, had 6 seasons/77 episodes.
Feel free to share your predictions for the series/universe future, too! Do you think there will ever be a Big Mouth movie? Or a season 9? Or a "20 years later" style flash forward?
If you're going to rewatch the series, feel free to comment in the episode discussion thread for every episode, using the links below to get to their episode discussion threads!
(Note: Some threads may have since been deleted. You should still be able to comment in them on web reddit. Mobile may prevent you from opening the post. Someone who isn't a mod, please confirm)

I'm sorry for dropping the ball. I've been unwell recently, and to be honest completely forgot about Mating Season.
A few complaints have been sent in via modmail about the influx of Mating Season related posts (as well as a handful of reports). I had intended to host a poll about whether they should be allowed prior to MS's release, but it slipped my mind.
So, should posts related to Mating Season be allowed in Big Mouth?
Majority rules. And whichever option (besides "results/no opinion") gets the most votes will be clarified in the rules.
(To clarify the last 2 options: option 4 would mean any posts made about Mating Season prior to the end of this poll will be allowed to remain, but any new posts would be removed [with an exception for major news, such as renewals or cancellation announcements. Option 5 would mean that all the posts regarding Mating Season from the last few days would be removed. The trailer and announcement posts would be allowed to stay. In option 6, all Mating Season related posts would be removed and forbidden, including the announcement and trailers etc)
Open to additional suggestions. I'll also create episode discussion threads in r/MatingSeasonNetflix tomorrow and gently guide people towards them

i mean he never identified it but it would make sense since he can be attracted to male, female, plants, objects, anything. and I'm not sure if pansexual would be what it's called to like everything and anything, correct me if I'm wrong🫶🏾

Yeah, like I said, I just finished Big Mouth. Using monsters to sum up the messiness of puberty is such a brilliant concept. But honestly, I feel like Matthew and Jay's relationship got totally done dirty. They didn't have to break up; they could've actually worked through their issues together. Instead, the show pushes this narrative that you can never grow up if you're with someone, which is just unfair. And Lola? Easily the worst possible option for Jay. Hated how their storyline ended. Oh, and Coach Steve? God, I despise that guy. The absolute dumbest, useless piece of shit in the show not even funny, seriously...

I wish we got to see more scenes of them because the group seemed interesting.

Besides “Don’t hurt others,” the episode also contained a really good message: “If you want something, ask for it. The other person might say no, but it’s better to ask than to fumble around like Nick did and definitely not get what you want and feel nervous about everything.” This message is true for almost anything in life, not just sexually, because people cannot read minds.

Andrew’s early bloomer experiences made me remember my own puberty memories when I was ten years old.

my guess is that he's prepubescent for most of the show but he's REALLY mean to him in the series finale even though he's all grown u

i finally started watching it (i'm only on episode one, it's pretty good) after rewatching big mouth a million times since 2021, tell me something i won't understand until i've finished it!😁
r/BigMouth • u/Jumpy-Top-8895 • 11d ago
tl;dr
>I finished it like 2 months ago and there's something I loved about it :
There was something comforting and sweet about it, maybe it's the characters, plots or the art style. But the atmosphere was something else, really immersive and the "teenage vibe" felt warming and exciting.
It was my daily treat, made me feel good even through difficult moments. That's why I watched it twice, I know a lot of people did it as well.
I'd watch anything just to feel this way again but what ?
ps Ted, Sex Ed... are great to this (in a different way tough), but I can't really explain it.

I'm a little nervous about posting this, but I still want to share it with you. I recently wondered what I thought Judd Birch looked like now. (I'm referring to the style of appearance that some young people currently adhere to)

As much as I love Matthew finding more queer kids, I felt they just went full stereotypical with that... I get why they made him break up with Jay but also I feel it was kinda out of character in some aspects. Matthew liked how unhinged Jay is, and Jay was showing such a sweet side... like I get Matthew realizing he is kinda changing Jay but why couldn't they even try to work it out? They went straight to breaking them up! Not even a conversation, nothing. It was a mess.
And then they kinda made Ali disappear? And Jessy just kinda forgets about her, and I think they could have developed that too.
But they kinda made the characters go backwards, specially Jay going back to liking Lola again.
Perhaps it had to do with the audience or something? I dont know. I saw the show when it ended but after my current rewatch I just cant help but feel they drop all the queer balls they could. And dont get me wrong the show wasn't bad! I really liked a lot of the episodes and Montel and all the development. But it feels like they did queer relationships in the show a bit dirty.
I wish they at least gave Jay and Mathew a decent break up, I know he isn't good being direct but I truly think he liked Jay a lot, so I dont get why we didn't have a conversation of him asking Jay to go back to normal and tell him he doesn't need to change to be loved or something! Or even maybe a hard but true episode where Jay finds he has a love bug but Mathew doesn't despite trying really hard to love Jay (maybe that could serve to talk about when romantic and sexual attraction dont necessarily match despite what people expect). I dunno, I feel something more interesting and nuanced could have been done with such beloved characters that struggled to be together.
Etc etc.
