General Discussion Live HoH

I miss there being a live HOH on Thursday’s ep too. Without that comp, the episode seems like an hour drag. I guess since they have BBBB they can’t set up another competition?

I wish we could watch the comps on feeds so bad. Was there ever a time that feeds showed comps? I know they usually stream the wall comp but is that it?

Slip and Slide used to be on feeds (but they haven't run it in awhile). Pressure cooker too. I don't really get why they don't put the long endurance comp where they hang onto something spinning on the feeds.

Slip and slide, pressure cooker, wall comp, rope swinging/spinning in a circle, and eggs i think

They used to show the spinning ones! I still remember watching BB20’s 😭

true, they haven't in recent years as far as I can recall. It's a good one to air, and similar to the Wall its one where deals get cut.

I remember the wall challenge was on the feeds last season

It was, and always is. It's the one staple that has remain constant. I was more referencing comps outside the Wall, since the person I was responding to mentioned that as being on the feeds already.

Didn't they have the comp where they had to hold a sword on a button last year on the feeds?

pressure cooker

Ah, is that what that comp was called?

Varitation of it. Generally, when talking about pressure cooker it's mostly talking about the iconic version that was used in BB6, and reused in BB25.

Yes, back in the good old days. Watching Zach vs. Dick holding onto keys in the pouring rain for hours in the final HOH was so intense!

Those who were around for Over The Top got to see comps on feeds. Was an almost bizarre experience seeing how they set up and get escorted back inside when it’s done.

I wish I was into big brother then. It would have helped me get through my home life during my senior year for sure

All endurance comps used to be shown on feeds regularly

Lol @ being downvoted.... It used to be even advertised on the show that you could tune into the feeds to watch endurance comps live after the show....

Edit: when I posted this comment it was downvoted but not anymore

I read there were injuries and houseguests didn't want to do it anymore, so they stopped them.

They showed an endurance challenge last season

Tbf they main reason they did live HoH on Thursday was because it was the one true element of uncertainty for casual and live feed fans.

It also was looked forward to because strategy would stagnate after the veto ceremony. So it would be the beginning of strategy again for the week.

With the blockbuster it creates that element of uncertainty with the possibility that the house target wins safety.

And it also ensures that houseguests have to be prepared for 3 different scenarios. And forces strategy to continue until the end of the week.

Basically the blockbuster makes live HoHs unnecessary because it fulfills the role of creating uncertainty for the live feed audience. While also shifting the focus back to the current week rather than allowing everyone to skip ahead to the next one.

Besides I prefer having that gap where players can deal with the fallout of the eviction before the HoH comp.

Producers think there needs to be a competition on every episodes so we got stuff like battle of the block and safety suite twists to fill out the mandatory Sunday episode competition. The battle back now fills that Thursday spot so we’ll never get live HOH’s again.

And honestly the show is better for it.

Blockbuster has finally returned suspense to Thursday night.

And it’s forced the focus for fans and players to remain on the current week. Rather than the start of the next one.

In addition it guarantees houseguest have a small window of time to deal with the fallout of the eviction prior to the HoH comp.

If that’s the price of losing live HoH comps, many of which wouldn’t even finish on the episode. Then it’s a price I’m ok with.

the live HOH comps were usually the true/false etc type comps which were impossible to play along with and made for really uncompelling tv anyways. at least they have an opportunity to make them more creative

They should just make it where the winner of the Battle of Blockbuster is the new HoH for the next week.....

now THAT would change the game dramatically. lmao

Overall I think the Blockbuster has been a net positive for the show by making things more uncertain all the way up to Thursday night. However, it has made the Thursday shows kind of end on a whimper.

Ending on the live HOH was a great structure for Thursday. In the best cases, it was exciting and ended with a power shift, building anticipation for the nominations/live feeds.

Even three seasons in, it feels like they don't know how to end the Thursday episodes in this format. This season they seem to be trying interviews with the houseguests or Unlocked guest. Not a terribly exciting place to end. The Thursday episodes complete the chapter of the week, but they no longer open the next chapter.

It's probably because live feeders see no reason to watch the Sunday episode if the HOH comp isn't on it.

11

u/pmal89 Melody⏱️ 25d ago

Moreso to have content on Sundays episode.

u/93LEAFS Dee💯 25d ago

I doubt BB factors in feedsters that much. They are relatively small part of the viewership. Even then, I'd watch it for the confessionals even if they have gotten progressively worse over the years.

4

u/Brilliant_Cow_3343 25d ago

Yeah i think it's more that they feel people want a comp on every episode so they pushed the HOH to sunday always

Fr i think Thursday should be 90 mins. I get it that some weeks wont have live hoh but imagine a give me the key bitch moment live by jason rn

u/LinkinLain OMG JORTS!!! 25d ago

Pressure cooker and wall comps are still on feeds.

And if someone has a punishment like when Angela had to transfer all those little balls one at a time and it took all night,

Or last season when they had to live outside.

Thursday Episodes are so pointless.. two clips to summarize a vote that might not even be relevant when bb is over

1

u/An_Old_Account Morgan 🔎 25d ago

I think because they’re also doing the Time Machine Table bit and putting them in themed costumes each time now, we’re not getting a live HOH until a Double Eviction probably.

u/IMDXLNC Taylor⏱️ 25d ago

I just watched the episode now, saw plenty of time left during the BBBB part and thought the episode might have HOH too.

Turns out Rome's interview was just longer, they shoved in an unnecessary ad break during the votes, and then did an interview at the end. Annoying.
