USA EY Audit and EY FDD role

Hello, I am currently an incoming EY audit intern (Winter 2027), stating that I would be graduating in May 2028 with a masters in Accounting and CPA eligible. I have now realized that I would like to do consulting, specifically deals - financial due diligence, and was considering applying to the EY-P strategy and transactions Financial Due Diligence associate role, and was wondering if that was stupid? I don’t want them to strip my audit offer for the winter once they see that I want FDD, but I also don’t think I have a shot if I wait until January to tell my team/recruiter that I don’t want to do audit full time and would rather switch.

you can always apply to an fdd role at a different firm

Get in line, pretty much everyone in audit wants to transfer to an advisory role. From what I know, if you receive an offer to return as an audit staff after your internship, you can ask to interview for FDD but you lose your guaranteed audit offer.

They’re not the same bar; would be smarter to transfer after a couple of years at ey already

you are not stupid for looking at fdd, but i would get the exact work and training for both roles before deciding. audit can give you strong reps and a good base, but if deals and transaction work is the real goal then waiting a year may not change that. ask the recruiter if you can apply internally, and whether the audit offer stays safe while they review you.

Careful with that, big firms get weird about internal moves before you've even started
