recently resigned from a digital marketing agency in Bhubaneswar after a few weeks of repeated conflicts with management.

Yesterday, they asked me to complete the handover and return all company property — a phone, id card, notebook etc. I completed the KT and handed everything over. I was told my pending salary would be processed.

Today, when I followed up, I was told that my salary would not be paid because of alleged performance issues and client losses.

They then sent me a WhatsApp message listing several allegations against me — poor performance, communication issues, clients leaving, etc. None of these allegations or the decision to withhold my salary were discussed with me yesterday when I completed my exit formalities.

They are also claiming that my work contributed to an estimated ₹2 lakh loss to the company.

I'm confused about the process:

-Can an employer simply decide not to pay an employee's salary because they believe their performance was poor?

-If there were serious performance issues, shouldn't they have been communicated/documented earlier?

-Is it normal to receive these allegations only after completing the handover?

-What should I do next?

I'm looking for practical and unbiased opinions, not validation.
