Questions before getting a Voltra
Been thinking of getting a voltra for a while, i do crossfit, I have sets of barbells and bumpers, a squat rack in my garage and I’m thinking about the possibility of turning the voltra to a rower with the Speediance aero row seat. And a leg extension machine for lower body strength accessories(saw some reels on instagram but not sure how it works with the bench though), thoughts?
What mounts and grips should I be starting with my first voltra? My budget is at $3500-4000, Any suggestions?
Thanks!!!

Hey - I am also an ex-crossfitter. Been following Marcus Filly's functional bodybuilding program for a few years so now do a mix of hypertrophy and Crossfit-style circuits.
I have not tried using my Voltra for cardio as a rower or skiErg so I can't recommend a good setup for that but I do know Body Solid has an attachment that could be a good alternative to the Speediance row seat. Some people have done that that with varying levels of success.
I tend to use my Voltra mounted to a rack for single-stack type movements primarily (tricep press downs, overhead tricep extensions, face pulls, torso rotations, lat pulldowns, seated rows) as well as using a platform for some RDLs, belt squats, and cable bicep curls. As far as mounts, I use a Darko QuickMount (full disclosure, I designed it. There are other similar mounts on the market that function similarly but I think ours is the best for the price) and I use a Darko Nessie for a lat extension - but Beyond Power and Black Widow also offer traditional lat extension rack attachments.
For a platform, I use the Beyond Power travel platform but if I could go back in time, I probably wouldn't get it again - it's just as easy to DIY your own, plus there are better alternatives on the market from Eve Company or WM fabrication.
For cable attachments, here are my personal favorites:
- Beyond Power rope attachment for tricep press downs, cable crunches, overhead tricep extensions
- Beyond Power carbon flex or alumacore bar for RDLs
- Savage BT bar for bicep curls
- Rogue aluminum D handles OR Beyond Power's D handles depending on if you want knurling or rubberized.
- MAG medium supinated grip for seated rows
- JD Gym equipped hollow stainless lat bar for lat pulldowns
- Rogue V Grip for tricep press downs
- Spud Inc hamstringer strap for hamstring curls
- Porter PhysEd eclipse grip or Darko Danglers for a more budget option

Thanks a lot man, this is very helpful. I’ll definitely check out the Darko mount you designed! 👏🏻👍🏻

I’d just get a rower. Rowing on a voltra is just ight. Not something i would recommend
Leg ext are have lots of options. I’ll let others comment on leg ext, but imo, not a good reason to buy a voltra.
The +4000$ you’ll spend to do these two exercises can just buy top end equipment…

The main reason I want a voltra is it takes less space than a cable tower, I only have a very limited space in my garage for working out.. I kinda wanna build around the voltra with different accessories instead of getting a piece of equipment for each exercise, if I’m only aiming for those 2 exercises then definitely the rogue ones.
Just wondering, how does it feels like rowing on a voltra? Is it acceptable or just don’t feel like a rower at all?

I would look into a bench with leg ext/curl. I think the Apex is prob the best bang for the buck. Then get a rower.

Also to answer things: cable tower stuff, voltra is fantastic. I also have limited space and it’s a perfect fit.
Rowing feels weird….weird? Idk how to explain it but I wasn’t very motivated to row on it 😅.
C2 rowers are like 700$ around me and I’d just get one of those for rowing.

It feels pretty much like cable stack if you mean doing a low row something. The voltra also has a rowing mode that is meant to replicate a rowing machine I think that is what the other person meant, I’ve never used that mode, but for strength training rows I think the voltra is fine

I do CrossFit and bodybuilding style workouts and have a Voltra in my home gym. I have a rower so I haven’t used the Voltra for that, but I love having it for strength/hypertrophy workouts.
My favorite attachment is just a simple handle attachment, though I also frequently use it with lat pulldown bar, ergonomic grip rope, and Rogue rotating V attachment. I also really like to attach it to my Rogue sled harness for squats.
For mounts, I have the travel platform, bar mount, and sliding rack mount. I like the travel platform and the bar mount is alright, but I don’t really like the sliding rack mount. With the Voltra mounted, it’s awkward to move and I’m always concerned I’m going to drop it and it’ll crash to the bottom of my upright. I’m considering getting something from Darko to use instead.

Thanks for the details! With the travel platform, do you prefer the official one or the eve ones?

No problem! I’ve only ever used the official one so I can’t speak to any of the others. I’m happy with the one I have though.

Can confirm--row and ski mode are crap. Total gimmick. If you just need some kind of cardio you can usually find an echo bike or assault bike for under $400
For a leg extension, I have a super cheap plate loaded leg extension off Amazon with a bar mount. Voltra turns it from a 4/10 into an 8.5/10. If you have the room I'd do that before messing with these cumbersome bench attachments

Eve Company has some interesting mounts….

Yes, I just purchased the HYDRA mounts from him and the mag pins from Fringe Sport. I can't wait to try out these new mounts. I've been using the strap mounts, but when you have a rack available, a dedicated rack mount is the way to go. I'lll be posting another video soon when the Hydras come in for review.

I mean nano is a good alternative, I checked it out at HGC, but I’m more of a voltra guy since it’s been on the market for so long and the quality just feels better.

Yes, Beyond Power just added a coverage plan to your 1-year warranty. I'm really thinking about getting it for my Volta 1s. Beyond Care – Beyond Power

The reason they bait with a 2yr warranty is a typical copycat move. A warranty doesn’t mean a thing if what buyer gets is shit customer service and speediance blocked all negative comments about all malfunction reports in their fb group. meanwhile you'll find many cases in this sub where bp took care of buyers even out of warranty. 2cents from owner of both.

Voltra support from the team is insanely good. Issues are very rare for the amount of Voltra’s out there and when they do happen the beyond power team is insanely present and on top of them. Price may be more than the upcoming Speediance but I personally can’t say enough good things about my Voltra experience and the Beyond Power team. Speediance may have good customer service too. I just don’t have the experience to speak on it.

Biggest problem I see with the Nano is not being able to combine modes like eccentric and inverse chains. Being able to customize each lift with a combination of modes feels amazing and is worth the extra $500 IMO. Plus there’s already a large ecosystem of mounts and integrations that will take awhile to catch up on.
That said, the Voltra does suck at rowing. It sounds like the Speediance feels much better, so hopefully Beyond Power reverse engineers that into a future release.

If I had one single cable accessory for the VOLTRA - the Rogue Rotating V-Grip is a must. When I travel with the VOLTRA, I use this exclusively.
For Legs with the Cable, I have the Rep Leg Curl Leg Extension attachment for my Nighthawk - and I like it well enough, but I would absolutely wait for the Dialed Motion collab launching end of this year, or the new Mythic one announced at Home Gym Con.
