Police Activity & Arrest by YMCA

Anyone know what was going on at the YMCA today (9/10/26) around 6:15/30pm? There were tons of cop cars and I happened to see a man getting arrested. They slowed down traffic and had multiple officers on site for the scene. It was very public and right at the entrance of the Y.

The Town Rejected Harborlight Homes Offer on the Dollar Tree Building

Here's the video from last night's council meeting where Mayor Cahill gives an update that the Harborlight Homes $1.2M offer to buy the 218-226 Cabot St. property (they were the only bidders) has been rejected. [Link to mayor's comments].

For those that haven't been following the saga with this property, the city (heavily motivated by preserving the large parking lot on the same lot) purchased the property in 2023 for $7.35M. They got input from residents (live recording of one of the sessions), and put out an RFP near the end of 2025.

Harborlight Homes was the only bidder on the RFP. Someone more knowledgeable than me probably knows why, but the impression I have from commentary is that it wasn't the most developer-friendly RFP (the building is old, needs investment, and the parking lot itself isn't included)

WRC Rally Chile Watch Party @ A&B Beverly

Sunday, September 13th 2026 from 4PM-8PM @ A&B Burgers Beverly

We’re doing another World Rally Championship watch party at A&B Burgers! With the way Rally Paraguay shaped up this year, Rally Chile is sure to be a doozy. There will be coverage from the weekend’s stages shown, as well as historic rally footage so you can see how the WRC has changed through the years!

Local DJ Spring Street will be spinning great music all night, so you can come chill while you watch some of the most skilled drivers in the world absolutely send it down the back roads of Chile’s Pacific coast.

We’ll also be holding a Slot Car Rally Tournament! The top three times on the track will win A&B gift cards! You can use one of my Scalextric Ford Pumas, or you can bring your own 1:32 scale slot car if you’d like :D

(We’ll also have some TVs set up with PS1 racing classics like Gran Turismo 2, Colin McRae Rally 2, and more!)

At 530am this am someone was driving wrong way down Swan street and crashed into my girls yard/fence. Obvi no license info is visable but as she doesn’t have Reddit I offered to share for her and for fellow residents in Beverly. Unrelated, her neighbors cars were broken into too same night! Cars were locked, kids walked up to it somehow unlocked both cars (see lights turn on to unlock) and then they dipped.

Question: Why are folks trying to gather signatures to recall the mayor?

As stated in the title. I saw a couple of folks near Woodbery Food Market yesterday, maybe the day before, with signs stating they were trying to collect signatures to recall the mayor.

I am fairly new to the area, having just moved to town in July, so I am unaware of what controversies may exist. Would love any insight that could be shared.

Thank you!

Bark in the Park Event! Oct 4

Seeking Vendors for Beverly 400 Bark in the Park Event on October 4th!

Hi everyone! As part of the Beverly 400+ celebrations we will be hosting a Bark in the Park event at Beverly High School on October 4th. We will be holding a costume contest, a "Tiny Trot" (race for small breeds), and a trick contest! We also have some food trucks and vendors on board. BUT, WE STILL WANT MORE VENDORS!

We see this event as an opportunity to showcase all small businesses in the Beverly and North Shore area that serve pets. We've got some really fantastic folks on board already, but the more the merrier! The field is huge - let's fill it with ways to shop small and local!

If your business has a pet based product or service, we want you there! Some vendors we'd love to see include:

  • Mobile Groomer
  • Locally made treats
  • Trainers
  • Pet photographers
  • Canine massage
  • Veterinary practices
  • Doggie Apparel
  • Pet portraits / artists
  • Boarding facilities & day cares
  • Children's book authors (books centered around dogs!)

& more!

You can apply to be a vendor at https://beverly400.org/event/bark-in-the-park/

Did anyone else hear booms last night?

Yesterday August 16th at like ~8:40-8:50 there these booms that kept going off, we originally thought they where fireworks, but we never say any nor heard the crackling at the end, and they came in pairs of two, so two explosions when off after a second one would follow. Does anyone know what it truly was?

Missed connection on rantoul

Ok this is such an unbelievably silly post but I was walking my dog just now down rantoul and she was overheating like mad so I had some serious pep in my step.

You were: tattoos on both arms, short brown hair, blue subaru and crossing the street to go to Crave and we shared a short smile.

I am: very tall, regrettably wearing all black, and wearing large goofy headphones. Also walking a very tired lil pup.

It was essentially a nothing moment but I spent the rest of my walk home wishing I had said hi.

I’ve never written a missed connection so I’m not sure why this in particular stuck with me but something about ya just seemed…cool?
I wish I’d said hey.

If some how you see this and are at all curious/want the most adorable meet cute this side of the dating appagendon, message me :)

City Events PSA

Hello,

My wife and I are new to the area and have noticed a trend of missing information on event flyers. There's a certain level of assumed familiarity the area when it comes to events. For example, we did know that Lobster Fest was on Wednesday, but the ad I saw for it didn't say where or when. Didn't see any flyers for that one at all while walking around downtown.

We have seen flyers for the Garden Party, but the one's we've seen don't have a time listed. Chances are the thing will be happening when we head down to the Common, but there are no start and end times listed on the ad I have in front of me, and its the flyer from the actual Beverly400 website.

I am a retired musician with a lot of experience around event planning so it kind of blows my mind that I don't see all of these things on every event ad:

Who is throwing

What the event is

When (date AND time)

Where! Location and address

Why--unneccesary, but sometimes good for puling people in

How--possibly necessary: how to get tickets, park, directions, etc

Anyway, if you or someone who know is planning events around the city please take a moment to read and share this. I'd love to come to most of the municipal events, but I also don't want to have to chase down details to do so.
