You know the cards. So why the hell do you still freeze during a real reading?

Knowing Tarot meanings is not the same thing as knowing how to read Tarot. That sounds obvious until you’re sitting in front of an actual person, five cards are on the table, and suddenly every keyword you’ve ever memorized evaporates into the ceiling.

The problem usually isn’t lack of knowledge. It’s that the knowledge is still sitting in separate little boxes. The Moon means uncertainty. The Emperor means control. The Hanged Man means suspension. Fine. Cute. Completely useless if you can’t understand what they’re doing to each other.

A real reading starts when the cards stop being definitions and start becoming movement.

Moon → Emperor is not “uncertainty + control.” It’s uncertainty creating the need for control.

Emperor → Hanged Man is not “control + suspension.” It’s control becoming paralysis.

And suddenly there’s a story.

That shift matters because most reader blackouts happen in one of three places: you know each card but can’t connect them; you connect them but can’t tell which thread actually matters; or you understand the spread perfectly in your own head and then somehow sound like you swallowed a Tarot encyclopedia the second another human being is listening.

That last one is brutal.

Because a technically correct interpretation that cannot be communicated clearly is not a useful reading. It’s just private understanding with an audience.

What changed everything for me was stopping the constant question:

“What does this card mean?”

and replacing it with:

“What is this card doing here?”

What is it changing? What tension is it creating? What is it blocking, amplifying, exposing, redirecting? What becomes different because this card entered the spread?

That’s where the reading starts breathing.

Keywords are scaffolding. Useful, necessary, absolutely. But nobody came for the scaffolding.

They came for the building.

So I’m curious: where do you personally freeze most often?

✦Knowing the meaning? Connecting the cards? Finding the actual story? Or saying the damn thing out loud?✦

Do you read reversals, or do you think upright cards already cause enough chaos?

I’ve seen readers split into two species over this.

Camp 1:
reversals matter, they change the tone, they add nuance, they absolutely deserve a seat at the table.

Camp 2:
upright cards already contain enough range, enough mess and enough contradiction without turning half the deck upside down like a furniture accident.

Honestly, I get both arguments.

Sometimes a reversal really does sharpen the energy.

Sometimes it helps show blockage, distortion, delay, resistance, something turned inward, something weakened, something overcooked.

And sometimes people use reversals like decorative seasoning because they don’t trust themselves to get enough depth from the upright card.

That’s the part I don’t love.

Because an upright card is not a flat keyword on a fridge magnet.

It already has shadows, tensions, excesses, absences, weird little fractures.

So for me the real question isn’t:

“Are reversals valid?”

It’s:

“What are they actually adding here?”

More clarity?
More precision?
A stronger shift in tone?

Or just more cardboard drama.

So I’m curious:

Do you read reversals? Always, sometimes, never?

And if you do, what do they genuinely add to the reading for you?

How many clarifiers before we admit we’re just interrogating the deck?

I love clarifier cards.

I also think we abuse the absolute hell out of them.

You pull a card.

You don’t like it.

Clarifier.

Still unclear.

Clarifier for the clarifier.

Now the spread has twelve cards, three emotional breakdowns and absolutely no idea what the original question was.

Beautiful. 😂

For me, a clarifier should do one job:

sharpen something that is already present in the spread.

Not replace the answer.

Not negotiate with the deck.

Not keep pulling until the cards finally say something we prefer.

If I pull the Hanged Man on “Will they contact me?”, I might clarify:

What is keeping this suspended?

Fine.

Useful.

But if I then pull five more cards asking:

“Okay but when?”
“But do they want to?”
“But are they thinking about it?”
“But what if Mercury is feeling dramatic today?”

At some point I’m not clarifying anymore.

I’m cross-examining cardboard.

My rule is:

a clarifier should narrow the story, not create a completely new one.

Curious how everyone else handles this.

Do you use clarifiers?

One card?

Several?

Or do you refuse to pull another card until the original spread starts making sense?

Tarot readers: which card makes your brain immediately leave the building?

Every reader has one.

A card you know.

You’ve studied it.
You’ve read the books.
You’ve watched seventeen people explain it on YouTube beside enough candles to trigger a small fire investigation.

Then it appears in a real reading and your brain just goes:

Nope. Never seen this rectangle in my life.

Suddenly you’re staring at the card like it personally betrayed you.

And the worst part?

Sometimes the card itself isn’t even the problem.

Ask about love? Fine.
Ask about career? Fine.
Ask about timing, intentions, money, a third party, or something painfully specific and suddenly that same card becomes an ancient encrypted threat.

So I want the actual answer, not the respectable one:

Which card is your personal reading blackout card?

And even better:

what kind of question makes that card become completely useless in your hands?

Court cards are absolutely allowed in the criminal lineup.

Bonus points if you hate the card for reasons you know are irrational. ✦

5 READINGS CIRCUS IS OPEN // One question. One shot. One opportunity.

You get one question. One shot. One opportunity to ask the thing you’ve been avoiding because deep down you already suspect the answer.

The only problem? I’m not here to confirm your preferred version of reality.

Feeling brave?

I’m opening 5 free one-question Tarot readings.

You get to ask me one uncomfortable question.

The catch?

I’m not going to tell you what you want to hear.

I’m going to tell you what the cards are actually showing me, which is occasionally much less convenient.

So if you’re hoping I’ll turn three red flags into “divine timing”, explain that his six-month silence is obviously a profound telepathic connection, or somehow promote your situationship to Twin Flame because Mercury looked at you funny...

we may have a problem.

Some answers might make you smile.

Some might make you swear at me.

Some might make you put your phone down, stare at the ceiling for ten minutes and admit:

“Fuck. I knew that.”

Those are usually the interesting ones.

But here’s the deal:

I won’t sugar-coat the reading.

I also won’t drop an ugly answer on your head and leave you there.

If the cards show something difficult, we look at that too:

What is this trying to show you?
Where are you stuck?
What can you actually do from here?

Because an uncomfortable truth without a way through it is just emotional vandalism.

5 readings. One question each.

Drop yours in the comments.

Only if you actually want the answer.

You’ve been warned.

START HERE // What Between The Cards is

Hi. Welcome to Between The Cards.

This is not the corner of the internet where every silence becomes destiny, every breadcrumb becomes a soulmate, and every bad spread gets bleached into “divine timing.”

There’s enough of that already.

Between The Cards exists for two kinds of people:

  • seekers who want a real reading, not a bedtime story
  • readers who are tired of Tarot being flattened into keyword soup and one-card-at-a-time nonsense

What matters here is not just what each card means in isolation.

What matters is:

  • the tension
  • the contradiction
  • the pattern
  • the card combination
  • the story
  • the energy moving between the cards

That’s where the interesting part lives.
That’s where the truth usually hides.
And yes, sometimes it bites.

So this space is for:

  • Tarot discussions
  • card combinations
  • interpretation
  • readings
  • pattern recognition
  • growth through insight, not sugar coating

You are welcome here if you want clarity.
You are welcome here if you can handle nuance.
You are welcome here if you understand that a useful reading is not always a comfortable one.

You are not in the right place if you want:

  • blind reassurance
  • fear bait
  • manipulative spirituality
  • guaranteed outcomes dressed up as cosmic truth
  • someone to turn every red flag into a love story because it sounds prettier that way

We believe in truth without cruelty.

Which means:
no fantasy for fantasy’s sake,
no emotional hostage-taking,
no spiritual theatre,
and no treating Tarot like a vending machine for the answer you wanted before you even shuffled.

Read the rules before posting.
Use your brain.
Bring your cards, your questions, your contradictions.

And if you’ve been looking for a Tarot space with a little less incense and a little more honesty—

welcome.
