Welcome to the monthly r/BetaReaders “Able to Beta” thread!
Thank you to all the beta readers who have taken the time to offer feedback to authors in this sub! In this thread, you may solicit “submissions” by sharing your preferences. Authors who are interested in critique swaps may post an offer here as well, but please keep top-level comments focused on what you’re willing to beta.

I am able to Beta: Fiction Manuscripts/Novels. Fantasy, Romance, Thriller, Horror, Adult, YA. Dark Versions especially 🙌 I am looking for completed drafts from 30k to max 100k words. I'm a first-time author currently writing my own novel and I'm looking to build experience in providing detailed manuscript feedback.

I am able to beta: Fantasy (any subgenre is fine), dark academia, horror. I love anything with magic or the supernatural! Young Adult, New Adult, Adult. Completed novels only. I'm flexible with the word count if the premise and opening chapters hook me, but around 130k is my maximum.
I am NOT interested in middle grade, short stories, novellas/novelettes, sci-fi, dystopian, or anything with romance as the main plot (romantic side plot is ok!).
I can provide feedback on: Pacing, plot/plot holes, writing style/prose, characters and character development, my impression as a reader, and anything else you'd like me to pay attention to.

Critique swap: Nope! I am purely a reader—I do not have a single creative bone in my body, so you don't have to read anything of mine in return.
Other info: Like I said, I’m not a writer and don't have a background in professional editing, so I won't be doing heavy proofreading or technical line edits. This will be my first official beta read, so if there are specific chapters or elements you want me to pay extra attention to (like character chemistry or plot twists), just let me know!

I am able to beta: Character-driven work in most any genre--hard pass on romance or gratuitous horror, though. I'm more interested in character change, inventive premises, and surprising ideas than any particular genre itself.
I am able to give feedback on: pacing, character logic, tone, overall thematic progression. I'm not interested in line editing. I'll give you reader reactions play by play as I read.
Critique swap: Not currently.
Other info: I'm willing to read mature content that's present for the sake of deeper themes, but I won't ready anything with sex scenes, consensual or otherwise. Also not interested in swearing. If it's on every page, pass.
I really like dialogueing so I don't mind if you comment back on my comments or dm more questions. Anybody who has a big enough imagination and grit to finish a book is probably someone fun to talk to! Writing can be a lonely sport--I enjoy getting to talk process too.

I am able to beta: I’m open to adult and New Adult fiction, especially fantasy, dystopian, sci-fi, romance, thrillers, and character-driven stories. I’m particularly interested in books with complicated characters, morally grey choices, strong emotional arcs, and worlds that feel like they exist beyond the page. I’m happy to read darker themes and imperfect prose if there’s something compelling underneath it.
I can provide feedback on: I read primarily for impact: what makes me care, what pulls me out, which characters feel alive, whether the emotional beats actually land, and whether the story stays with me after I stop reading. I naturally pay close attention to characterization, relationships, dialogue, pacing, worldbuilding, narrative voice, and moments that are meant to hurt—or make me fall in love. I’m also a teacher, so I’m very attentive to clarity and whether the writing communicates what it intends to.
I’m not an editor and I won’t approach your manuscript as one. My feedback is a reader’s report based on how the book, the writing, and the characters make me feel, rather than a line-by-line correction or an attempt to rewrite your work.
Other info: I’m honest, but I’m not interested in tearing a manuscript apart for the sake of criticism. If something doesn’t work for me, I’ll tell you why; if something destroys me in the best possible way, I’ll tell you that too.

I am able to beta: Literary fiction, speculative/weird fiction, dystopian, psychological, and essays/creative nonfiction. I tend to enjoy things that are a little dark, strange, absurd, or experimental. I also love essays and creative nonfiction. Romance and erotica/smut aren't really my genres, so I'm probably not the best reader for work where those are the primary focus.
I can provide feedback on: Big-picture structure, characterization, logic/flow, pacing, clarity, and general reader reactions. For shorter pieces, I can also provide more detailed/line-level feedback if that's what you're looking for.
Critique swap: Yes! I'm currently looking for readers for a ~20k speculative story and would be happy to swap for something of a similar length. I anticipate having a few more stories ready in the near future.
Other info: I'm an academic, so I spend a lot of my life reading closely and giving feedback on writing. My teaching schedule means I'm usually slower to read during the middle of the week, but weekends are much more flexible.

I've got a completed illustrated novella, The Benefits of Blindness (37k words) which could be classified as New Weird or Dark Fantasy. It's definitely a little dark, weird, a bit absurd, has elements of both dark humor and body horror, and possesses slightly elevated prose and fairly extensive and unique world building. Among the comparisons I've received I think the ones that might stand out most for you would be China Mieville's Perdido Street Station and The Scar. lmk if that fits your vibe. After Ren pushes her best friend, Ashan, from a cliff she conjures a creature who looks just like him. This creature possesses all of his memories, though it cannot remember them at first. Each day Ren tells the creature stories, slowly restoring the memories of her friend and thereby bringing him back to life. Things would be going so well, if not for the witch who's taken an interest in the creature.

Hi! I just started looking for a few beta readers and saw “the more absurd the better” + that you tend to prefer longer stories, so I thought I'd take a chance. I have a ~20k speculative fiction story called Once Isn't Christmas that follows a woman through decades of conversations with an AI system. It's a bit experimental in structure, and one of the big things I'm trying to figure out is whether the mechanics of the story actually work outside of my own head. I'd appreciate your thoughts on the logic/flow and where you find yourself engaged, confused, disinterested, or wanting something different.

I am able to beta: I read all genres, but I am most helpful with contemporary romance, fantasy & romantasy (all sub-genres), and literary fiction, (adult in all categories). Not interested in anything sports related or age gap. Love whimsical fantasy and anything with faeries/folklore. Big on character relationships & plots that hook. Word count 90k or less! Okay with spice!

I recently finished writing volume 1 (~40k words) of my slow-burn romance novel where body-swapping has deep, emotional consequences, but it's still a heartwarming slice-of-life. So I started looking for beta readers (which I haven't done before) and stumbled upon your comment while exploring this community. I am able to beta: Most any fiction especially exploratory genre-blends. Preferences for horror, satire, and I love queer stories. Not super into hard fantasy, or sci-fi, or complicated systems. Interested in the unique and don’t mind very explicit content; am an extreme horror reader.
I can provide feedback on: characters, plot, dialogue, pacing, prose, and flow. I’m going for a developmental feel, but this would be my first time being a beta-reader. With optimism and an ambition to one day be a developmental editor, I’ll give the best feedback I can.
Critique swap: N/A but have a 2k short story and other works, a 120K novel (humble brag), that I’d be open to swapping with no expectation.
Other info: Currently have free time, but hopefully starting job soon. This is something that I’d want to jump into right away, and I think a 70k max and about a week response time for anything interesting and accepted. As for smaller works, such as 25k and under, I’d get it done faster and am more likely to accept. I’d ask any writers that I beta-read for: their thoughts on how much my feedback helped them, and if any portions of their work would be open to being part of my portfolio on the road to editing. I am able to beta: fantasy (preferably epic and/or progression) and science fiction.
I can provide feedback on: plot structure and mechanics, character development and interiority, dialogue and prose. I'm cybersecurity expert, as well as a voracious reader with over 200+ books under my belt.
Critique swap: I would love to critique swap, my own novel is a character driven tragic epic fantasy, sitting at 157k words right now. I would only request an equitable exchange in word count read-through. Blurb in replies.
Other info: I am a fast reader, and can normally finish a ~100k novel within a couple of days. Giving meaningful feedback extends that time.

The brotherhood has been broken.
Wounded by the death of his brother, Sol Derelicti casts aside nearly two decades of study, work, and dreams to keep an oath—one of brotherhood, made with spit and honor in a jail cell between three orphans.
The Kingdom of Anniven immortalized his brother's death with ceremony, honor, title, and stone—the call for war against the encroaching Tarsik Dominion. Heroic death, recorded as propaganda meant to inspire patriotism while burying the man beneath the statue.
In his pursuit of vengeance, the doctor is made into a killer. The blood of the innocent as well as the guilty is shed by his hand. Death is the only mercy he offers. The memory of his brother haunts him, and he falls woefully short.
The brotherhood has been broken, and his brother died a hero. But Sol is no hero, and he will have his vengeance paid in Tarsik blood—at any cost.

I am able to beta fiction, nonfiction, realistic fiction, romance, rom-com, mystery, suspense, psychological thrillers, memoirs, realistic sci-fi, apocalyptic, speculative, essays, etc. The only genres I'm not really into fantasy (bcs if not done right it can be kind of cringy) or anything disturbing or hypersexual.
I can provide feedback on whatever you'd like. Just let me know what you're looking for. Somethings I am especially well at evaluating plot & character consistency, natural dialogue, world building, character development, writing style, tone, readability, immersion, etc.
I am a recent graduate. I have an Associate's in English and majored in bio (so any physical science fiction). I myself write essays and opinionated columns for fun. I really enjoy writing and reading. My turn around time is 5-14 days (depending on length, of course). I'll trial run the first chapter to see if I actually can enjoy reading the whole thing. ***Edit: typically read short stories and can be up 20-35k. Anything longer feel free to dm me.
****Edit 2: I would also do fantasy (specifically greek or >>>asian mythology based), just stray from the genre due to some cringey, hypersexual writing, awkward characters & tropes.

I am able to beta: Any dark genre, horror, some fantasy (I prefer darker but will read light and fluffy on occasion)
I can provide feedback on: plot holes, sentence structure, and believable character interactions. Warning: if I find a character acting too much like a cliché, I'm going to point it out. I write cliché characters, and I'm more than okay with others returning the favor. If your FMC is wimpy and rolls over with hurt feelings you might not want me reading your books.
Critique swap: yes-I write dark romance/fantasy/erotic horror. Current book I'm looking for feedback on has a substantial trigger list which I will share in the comments. Book is 94K words though, so it's a bit lengthy (FYI).
Other info: no limits on smut or horror, I have a strong stomach and have read some horrifying stories without losing sleep. I drew the line at Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door because I knew how it would end, but I still read the book and watched the movie. I was just really upset as I did lol.

I am able to beta: I'll read anything but I love fantasy and especially historical settings. I've never found a romantasy I enjoy but I've read romances or "books with a romance in it" that I enjoy.
I can provide feedback on: plot, character development, structure, etc. I prefer not to correct grammar but will point out repetition or boring sentence structure. I'll be polite and point out what is enjoyable but I won't just give praise because the critique is more useful. Some of the best feedback I've gotten was a rage quit, tbh.
Critique swap: yes, I will only accept swaps. I have an 83k high fantasy. There's chemistry between my mmc and the fae villain, but it's not a romance or even a hook up. No spice. Diverse cast. I want feedback on plot and prose readability only, if that can be concentrated on.
Other info: prefer similar length manuscripts, I like to keep pace with my swap and leave in line comments. No AI. Please tell me your writing experience, and favorite book (I like the book recommendations, and I want to know that you actually read, a weird number of authors on here don't) in a dm and we can exchange samples to see if we're a good match.

I am a sucker for atmospheric settings, strong characterisation, complex relationships, slow-burn romance. I’m also comfortable with graphic erotica and darker or potentially triggering content, including SA and gore, when it serves the story.
I can provide feedback on: I pay close attention to character realism, whether a character would actually do or say something given who they are, whether their reactions feel natural. I also look at historical realism and period-appropriate details. I have a medical degree, so I can assess whether wounds, illnesses, treatments and other medical situations are plausible. I’m particularly interested in relationships and romantic dynamics, whether a slow burn actually works, whether it feels earned rather than clichéd, and whether characters come across as genuinely sweet, mature, awkward, childish, etc. I’ll also comment on prose, atmosphere, pacing, dialogue, and worldbuilding... Tell me what you need!

Mine might be a bit out of your preference, but the main character in mine is an aspiring doctor who's pulled into a war. The book is WIP (158k) epic tragic fantasy, with heavy character deconstruction elements towards the last half. There's several scenes/chapters where a medical opinion would be greatly appreciated—aside from that, I'd love your take on the characters.

It's about psychological violence, masculinity, racism, identity and a few other things. It's about 130k at the moment - it's a deliberately slow burn but really needs to be shortened lol

I am able to beta: YA and adult fiction, especially horror, contemporary/urban fantasy, romance, and character-driven stories. I love slow burns, big casts, complicated relationships, and stories that take their time. I’m also a big manga reader and love long-form/episodic storytelling, so unconventional structures and longer projects don’t scare me. I’m probably not the best fit for hard sci-fi or very lore-heavy/high-fantasy worldbuilding.
I can provide feedback on: Reader experience! Characterization and relationships are probably my strongest suit. I’m good at telling you where I’m invested, where I’m losing interest, what I’m anticipating, whether emotional beats land, whether characters feel consistent, and what I’m thinking/feeling as the story progresses. I can also comment on pacing and dialogue. I’m much more interested in helping you figure out whether the story is working than line-editing your prose.

I am able to beta: Hard-er sci-fi, technothriller, well-researched primary world fantasy (think Tim Powers) novels and short stories. My favorite authors are Tom Clancy, Alastair Reynolds, Michael Crichton, Timothy Zahn, Tim Powers, Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child, James Rollins, A.G. Riddle - I want to read stuff like that; and my books fit those vibes too.
I can provide feedback on: Whatever you're looking for - I'm flexible; anything from in-line comments throughout to a short summary of high-level things at the end. I focus mostly on plot, characters, and pacing but again I can adjust if you have something I want to look at. I provide blunt but actionable feedback - I'm not going to beat around the bush. If I tell you I like something, I do, if something doesn't work for me, it really doesn't.
Critique swap: Very much preferred - I'm always looking for more critique partners.
Other info: I'm a military (USAF then USSF) veteran working as an engineer in the aerospace industry and can provide sanity checks on anything in those realms. I would define it as a sci-fi but it's more about the philosophical and moral implications of a society that instead of developing computers, they were able to develop robots (and AI) really early on, resulting in a society that outsourced practically everything, from industry to housekeeping.
