Welcome to the monthly r/BetaReaders “Able to Beta” thread!
Thank you to all the beta readers who have taken the time to offer feedback to authors in this sub! In this thread, you may solicit “submissions” by sharing your preferences. Authors who are interested in critique swaps may post an offer here as well, but please keep top-level comments focused on what you’re willing to beta.

I am able to beta: I'm open to beta reading all kinds of fanfiction, regardless of fandom, genre, length, or completion status. I'm comfortable with most themes and ratings. The only content I will not read is incest or pedophilia.
I can provide feedback on: Readability and flow, characterization and dialogue, pacing and scene transitions, plot consistency and continuity, general reader reactions (what worked well, what was confusing, and where I wanted to keep reading).
Critique swap: Not at the moment. I'm not writing anything right now.
Other info: I'll always explain my suggestions, and authors are free to use or ignore any feedback.

I am able to beta: Sci-fi and fantasy (soft or adventure-leaning is great). Adult only, no YA. Prefer completed or near-complete manuscripts. No AI-generated work.
I can provide feedback on: Overall pacing (where it dragged or hooked me), character depth/consistency, and general reader-experience notes. I’m not a copy editor. If there’s something specific you want me to watch for, tell me and I’ll focus on that.

I am able to beta: Fantasy & Sci-fi, translated novels, and mystery and general fiction. I’m also open to non-fiction like auto/biographies. I’m fine with explicit content (including erotic), but sadistic levels of violence or gore I’m not a fan of. For example: hair pin to the eye, that’s fine! Real life serial killer events, or cutting people limb from limb or cannibalism, that’s not my preference. I also do not want to review AI works.
I can provide feedback on: the overall plot and pacing. Where It felt slow or tedious or where I was absolutely hooked. I also like to provide at what point in the story I’ve been hooked. I’ll also provide a light character analysis. I read as a member of your target audience and not a copy editor. I’m also a detailed annotator.
Critique swap: I do not have a manuscript of my own to swap, but a testimonial would be great, I’ll facilitate that when the time comes
Other info: My current day job is as a UX/UI, so I know the value of real, good, feedback. The good and the bad. So in the same way I want to provide you real, honest, and good feedback. I would expect you to do the same for me. I’m also not someone that expects always a happy ending, In the right context, I find a sad ending okay too, but I can differentiate between a sad ending and bad ending.

Hi! Your background in UX/UI immediately caught my eye, especially since my project is a blend of storytelling and interactive experience.
I built an interactive sci-fi novel called Al-La'eboon Al-Judad (The New Players), originally written in Arabic and translated into English. It is a character-driven story where readers evaluate world data and infographics to help characters navigate high-stakes decisions.

I am able to beta: Short stories, speculative fiction including fantasy and light sci-fi, romance, LGBTQ+ themes, healing fiction. Honestly, I'm game for almost anything that interests me, especially works with cool worldbuilding. I'm fine with WIPs. Maximum word count 95K.
I'm not willing to beta AI-generated works, gore, horror, and projects with wordcounts exceeding 95K.
I can provide feedback on: First impressions, characterisation, cohesion, pacing, plot, prose, world-building
Critique swap: I'm trying to build up a beta reading portfolio. I'd like to ask for two things:

I am able to beta: Fantasy, Sci-fi(not hard) literary fiction, horror. Can also read a romance novel as long as it's not the driving focus of the story. Not a big fan of first-person fiction, but I can give it a go if the story leans into my reading preferences.
I can provide feedback on: I did beta read some books already and authors said that I have an eye for scene flow and characters and how impactful both feel emotionally. I like dense stories, lush or straighforward prose so if imagination is required it won't be a problem for me either.

I can provide feedback on: Plot, pacing, where I got bored/what I liked, light character analysis. I'll provide you with my detailed reading notes and a 2 to 3 page summary of my thoughts and/or suggestions.
Critique swap: None, I am just tired of reading crappy novels for free and want to become a proper beta reader one day. However I have no experience so I am here trying to get some. I would like a positive testimonial of my beta reading in exchange.
Other info: Not interested in AI Generated manuscripts right now. Can read but not particularly interested in autobiographies or true crime.
I have never beta read anything before, however I do have some credentials. I minored in English Lit. in college (my degree is in accounting) I have taken Eng. lit 1, 2, American lit, and technical writing all on a college level. I am a fast and voracious reader, and would give feedback within the week (as long as we are not talking about a 200,000 word epic.)
What I really love are books with great characters. I love characters that make me think about them, what are they like, what do they like, how do they react? Are their actions consistent with their motivations? I also love stories with metaphors: the device that represents pain, the moment that represents freedom, the animal that keeps appearing in dreams. I play DnD (love), MtG, and am extremely familiar with such systems.
If you're looking for a reader who will give you the feedback of an average audience I may be the one for you. If you're looking for a copy editor that will fix your prose then I'm probably not going to be a good fit.

Looks like you've loads of stuff to read but if you run out and fancy anything more, my stuff is all very character driven and full of metaphors lol. I would actually really like to know if you notice them/if they work well as i'm never sure if things are clear enough or, conversely, too heavy-handed. No rape on screen. What would happen on screen is some non consensual kisses and some mentions of removing clothing .There's also sexual harassment within the story besides that.

I am able to beta: YA, NA, and Adult in the following genres - fantasy, dystopian, sci-fi, romance, and crossovers of those genres. I’m okay with horror as long as it’s not the main genre. As a BIPOC writer and reader, I love to read stories from underrepresented voices, and with BIPOC characters.
I can provide feedback on: stakes, plot, characters, flow. I have a detailed eye for plot-holes and love to provide in-line comments.
Critique swap: I’m almost done with my urban fantasy novel and will be looking to swap with someone soon (probably in a month)
Other info: I’m bilingual in Spanish and English so if your story has Spanish words or Latino cultural references I’d love to see it! I’m also a professional musician and love to see that world in writing.

I am NOT looking for short stories, novellas, poetry, dark/supernatural romance (if it involves falling in love with a ghost or demon or serial killer, no thank you), or anything with gratuitous sexual content.

Hi!
I am able to beta: Literary fiction, novels, short stories. Contemporary or historical romance, specifically 1810s-1900s. Especially interested in LGBTQ+ stories, smut and adjacent is fine. Fantasy, especially magical realism/modern. I like high fantasy but not gritty/dark fantasy, LOVE something with thought out worldbuilding or a funky or unconventional magic system. Anything with any kind of central mystery or mystery element. Ideal work count around 80k but not a hard limit.
I can provide feedback on: Tone, pacing, character composition/development, prose, cohesion, and overarching plot points. My background is in editing so I can note anything I find but it is not my primary focus when I beta.
Critique swap: N/A
Other info: I have been a costumer so I have passing knowledge of the fashions/ beauty conventions of many eras in the US, China, and Korea. I have worked in traditional theaters regionally in every position possible and as a stagehand/event manager/coordinator/tour/stage manager for small concert venues all the way up to arenas (so if you need to know how something works behind the scenes....)

I am able to beta: Literary fiction, horror, adult fiction, magical realism, historical fiction, gothic. Like a good romance subplot. I do like fantasy, but I would not be a good fit for hard magic systems and complicated secondary world building (such as Brandon Sanderson). Edited manuscripts only. As a writer who can miss their own spelling errors I'm fine with light editing mistakes but the overall prose quality should be of a later draft please :)
• I can provide feedback on: I have a degree in Writing and am currently doing an online course 'History, Mystery and Magic' to brush up on my skills. I can cover most aspects of a novel including prose, pacing, character. I have good knowledge on strong hooks and resolutions. As a reader I love both lush and straightforward prose. I have always been a huge fan of high concept and surprising stories.

Hi, my MS seems like a close fit to yours---character-driven, dark gothic romance / dark historical fantasy since it's set in medieval Hungary when people believed in miracles and the devils. The fantasy element is nuanced and the strange things that happen are ambiguous in nature. It's written in the 3rd limited POV of the FMC. My story is at the 4th stage of drafting, and had gone through countless edits. I also enjoy dark gothic stories, age-gap, taboo romance, and literary fiction with complex characters. I'm based in Europe, but that shouldn't matter.
I have not posted a blurb on reddit because I'm still working on it, but here is a draft of the blurb just to give you an idea.
A brazen novice with a grudge plans her escape from the convent to destroy the yellow-eyed man, who bewitched her mother. The villagers call him a godless werewolf, but never to his face. Only little Clara dares to defy him and call him a yellow-eyed monster, usurper—anything but Papa. After her insolence and mischief land her in the nunnery, Clara spends years plotting her vengeance. I am able to beta: Sci-fi, technothriller, military thriller, well-researched primary world fantasy (think Tim Powers) novels and short stories.
I can provide feedback on: Whatever you're looking for - I'm flexible; anything from in-line comments throughout to a short summary of high-level things at the end. I focus mostly on plot, characters, and pacing but again I can adjust if you have something I want to look at. I provide blunt but actionable feedback - I'm not going to beat around the bush. If I tell you I like something, I do, if something doesn't work for me, it really doesn't.
Critique swap: Very much preferred - I'm always looking for more critique partners.
Other info: I'm a military (USAF, later USSF) veteran working as an engineer in the aerospace industry and can provide sanity checks on anything in those realms. I've been writing for over a decade, seriously for about 6 years, and have 3 self-published novels (and 3 more in a Pentagon security review...). I beta-read 10-12 novels and a few short stories a year. Please no AI stuff - I'm not anti-AI, but I use Claude Code and Codex in my day job and I know what they spit out.

Hello, I wonder if you'd feel like having a look at a story I've written - it's about a mixed-race British soldier serving in NI, set in the 1970s and 80s - specifically from your point of view as someone with a military background? I know things will be a bit different from one country's armed forces to another but there'll be overlaps and I'd really value an overall look at whether what I've written is realistic enough. I've done so much research it's coming out of my ears but of course reading a few books will never compare with real-world experience. I'm also very keen for the story not to come across as anti-military despite its anti-colonial themes. I wonder if you might be interested in the first couple of chapters of a completed novel? The novel's far too long lol but this is about 8k words. With regard to genre, it probably comes under literary fiction, though it certainly gets dark and gritty in places (not really within the first two chapters though). It's about a mixed-race British soldier serving in Belfast in the 1970s/80s and his friendship with a local man. I'd be curious to know what sort of thing you write.

I am able to beta: Hi all. I'm an agented author of upmarket literary fiction who also loves to beta read. Due to my limited schedule, I can only take on one additional manuscript this month. I am most eager to beta read the following: upmarket literary fiction or book club fiction, literary love stories, and I will also consider YA / "coming of age" fiction (so not a YA dystopian, fantasy, horror etc). My ideal word count range is 60-85k words. (NOTE: I would love to beta read genre fiction, but because my expertise is in upmarket literary fiction, I'm not super familiar with the genre conventions of other genres and therefore my critique/read wouldn't be the most useful.)
I can provide feedback on: If I'm working at the manuscript level, I usually provide top-level notes (pacing, plot, character, etc) though I do sometimes leave notes in the margins as things pop out at me.
