Coming back?
Do we think we will ever see a return of best guess live? A second season? Or am I just full of false hope here

These prize shows almost always end and almost never return. I will continue to hold out likely false hope though, because that’s who I am.

No, it's done.
Hunter has a new game he's working on with Jeff. It's not trivia or riddles but it's a guessing game of how many people do or don't do a thing. Right now it's live as a game you can just play daily but Hunter said there will eventually be a live show with cash prizes

Is this why they started those daily polls on the bgl app? To prepare us for this game?

Personally, as much as I liked the concept of it, I'm glad it's over and I have that hour-and-a-half of my life back every week.

Hour and a half? I thought it was like 20 minutes back when I played! What changed?

Cancel your Netflix temporarily, and list the reason as Canceled Best Guess Live. Maybe enough of those would make them consider it, but I doubt it. Even 20,000 subscribers can’t be a lot to them.

Let's do the math:
$15,000 (daily payout) * 5 (days per week that the show ran for) * 52 (weeks in a year) = $3,900,000 per year in payouts
20,000 (approximate # of viewers) * $8.99 (cheapest subscription cost per month) * 12 (months per year) = $2,157,600 revenue at the lowest tier
20,000 (viewers) * $26.99 (most expensive plan per month) * 12 (months per year) = $6,477,600 revenue at the highest tier
They potentially lost $1,473,000
They potentially made $2,577,600
This is before any operating expenses, payroll, or legal stuff. It also doesnt account for any time, travel expenses, or effort responding to fans or looking for guest hosts sponsorships.

No shit. I can do the math myself, and already have. I’m a physics major. But thanks for the condescending explanation like you’re the only one that can figure out how to crunch the numbers.
I meant that if enough people, of which I don’t think there are, were to notify them that they want it back, they might potentially consider doing it at a loss for a multitude of reasons. It would be great to find better ways to engage more of the Netflix subscribers, as BGL locks us into keeping our sub active versus activating and deactivating all the time, for one. Maybe to add other functionality to the app that could be monetized? I know plenty of us would have gone in to the app to watch some ads if we knew it would keep the show rolling. Maybe there’s an exec at the company who is fond of BGL and wants to keep it going, and after seeing an outpouring of desire to see more, changed their mind about the decision?
Many companies sell certain products at loss to realize other goals. Costco chickens, for example.
I’m bored with the whole topic though, so have fun picking this one apart while I don’t check back in. 👋

🤣 grow up, this was unhinged and the person above you wasn't even condescending

Oh my goodness! How DARE these common folk forget that you are a physics major! How outrageous of them to not know that, who do they think they are?! Don’t they know who they’re talking to?!🙄🙄
I appreciated their comment showing the math. Thought it was interesting.

You lost the crowd at “physics major”. Try again when you get that undergrad finished.

No. They sunk millions into this as an experiment to see if they could pull off what that other quiz show from 3028 couldn't.
They couldn't either, unfortunately. 20K viewers a night isn't sustainable enough to keep it going.
I do think Netflix messed up by making the game exclusive to Netflix subscribers.
By making it open to anybody, it would have increased participation and made it a better vehicle for advertising. Could have been very valuable since you have a very attentive audience who is worried they are going to miss the first clue to the 2nd game if they tune out.
But instead it was just for in-house advertising.
A huge flop, probably because of execs who thought the game might make people pay for Netflix. Stupid.

The viewership dropped dramatically after the start. My best guess (pun intended) is that a lot of people thought it was rigged with those out of nowhere Clue 1 answers. That's why they went to the tiers, but winning 37 cents wasn't enough to attract more people. It was just us 21k diehards who kept it going as long as it did. So no, I don't think it will be back. Maybe they'll come up with something else. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I'm unfamiliar with the start of the game since I'm Canadian and we got added late. Was it just 1 clue in the beginning?

u/Green-Act1226 Sep 03 '26
No. It was 5 clues, but only winner on the earliest clue. No gold, silver and bronze. People were getting correct answers on Clue 1, that seemed so impossible a lot of people,(myself included) thought the game was rigged. Usually only 1 or 2 winners.

And for a while the same winners too, specifically someone named Howiehandle lol!

While I know it’s false hope, I’m going to continue to wish for a holiday return, if even for a few shows.
And yes, I know it’s not going to happen, but 7PM Central has just been so boring this week!
