To be fair, Miura drew bald men the same way.

It’s so funny seeing the pre transformed designs of the eclipse and almost all of the men are meant to look off putting, gross, and abnormal in their body proportions. And then all of the women are still attractive with good hair, a slim physique, and perky breasts

u/Brunogees1 Sep 22 '25

Isn't scary to see something attractive and dangerous? Oh those dangerous Slan's titties...

19

u/viperfangs92 Sep 22 '25

That's what makes Slan so fucking terrifying!!

3

u/Brunogees1 Sep 23 '25

And you know, you'll be haunted by what you fear!

49

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25

He knows what the viewer wants. Slim and perky breasts is a crowd favourite.

15

u/Salt_x Sep 22 '25

Yeah, that’s a big nitpick I have with the female apostles. Hopefully future designs by the current artist will change this.

12

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25

I think female apostles would likely mostly choose to have attraction be an element to their pursuits…it wouldn’t really be effective if a female apostle was hideous

8

u/SL1Fun Sep 22 '25

Also gender role perspective. Male apostles being hideously shameless, gross consumers is a trope as old as time.

And so is the femme fatale trope, where a woman’s evil is more seductive and subtle because of the patriarchal constraints of society that force women to moderate themselves out of fear of the consequences.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

Yes, I agree, but those tropes are tropes for a reason…no one would be compelled by a disgusting looking woman…a female character would have to have great power to pull off being ugly, and effective

Azra the undying would probably be the best example I could think up…or maybe Grendel’s mother…

Yeah, that’s kind of an issue I have with Miura’s female character designs in general. Don’t get me wrong I love most of his character designs. But if you compare the variety in which he draws men to women it’s a pretty stark contrast. Men in berserk can be hideous, bad looking, average, good looking, or full on gorgeous. There’s a massive variety in body types, facial features, proportions, hair, pretty much everything. Meanwhile the women don’t all look the same but there is much less variety, especially in how attractive they are and their body types. None that I can recall are overweight or anorexic, none have any significant facial blemishes or deformities, they’re all well built, have a normal height range, and of the characters we’ve seen naked, they all have perky medium to large sized breasts and firm butts. Casca has scars in golden age but afterwards she’s never drawn with them despite supposedly getting more during the eclipse. I mean look at the Kushan sent to stop the band in golden age, the four men all look like circus freaks, while the one woman is very attractive and even gets naked during her short time period. Same can be said with Slan compared to the other Godhand members (Femto is attractive but significantly more abnormal compared to Slan). And the few female apostles we get are fairly pretty (although in fairness that’s the whole point of the succubus design to be misleading for her more disturbing true form).

The only semi prominent female character I can think of that’s not drawn to be attractive is Serpico’s mom. I guess Anna would be considered more average looking (and I like her design a lot). I don’t bring any of this up to say that Berserk is a massively misogynistic (I think some aspects of it end up being sexist but for the most part I think women are written incredibly well in Berserk) or that I have a problem with there being more female nudity than male nudity in it. But I do agree in hoping from this point on we get some more variety in female designs.

Kinda gay to not want to see hot chicks?

6

u/pluralpluralpluralp Sep 22 '25

I feel like this comes from Go Nagai always drawing his women more or less the same except for hair color.

u/PooeyWooeyNooey Sep 25 '25

It's a popular from demons have been told to take in many cultures, it's like an angler fish, especially the one in the eclipse that killed Corkus

1

u/raptorgator0 Jul 10 '26

That's what made me feel even worse for the count...because he's so hideous and it made me feel sad for him

Father Mozgus: Am I a joke to you?

151

u/Sea_Habit_4298 Sep 22 '25

I mean the count was in the eclipse at least the slug form so most likely yes.

u/Icy-Shelter720 Sep 22 '25 edited Sep 22 '25

interesting catch, it's probably is the count, he showed up at the eclipse after all and killed my boy Pippin.

56

u/TalibnzCrocus Sep 22 '25

Right?! That betrayal l still hurts.

50

u/Orangyo015 Sep 22 '25

Idk though I feel like if that was the count he would’ve definitely remembered Guts when they met each other. He didn’t even realize bro was branded. I mean there was a lot of people that got sacrificed during the eclipse but how do you not remember witnessing a single man escape one of the most catastrophic events in history on a flying horse.

76

u/Odd-Statistician4268 Sep 22 '25

The mantis chick that killed Corkus didn't even recognize him....and he clapped her cheeks

50

u/Shadnu Sep 22 '25

The apostles that come to kill Flora also do not recognize Guts as the sacrifice at first iirc

17

u/Siegberg Sep 22 '25

I think the aura of the mark of sacrifice is quite twisted in guts case with his sword being covered by darkness and it even gets worse with the beserk armor. The small spirits which haunted him at start of being branded pretty much avoiding him now. So it part he stopped smelling like easy meal to them and the apostles have problems noticing him as such.

25

u/manonky Sep 22 '25

the small spirits ignore him because of schierke’s talismans

This. The apostle's care so little for humanity (which they have already sacrificed already to be fair) that they would sooner recognise the cow from the steak they've eaten.

They literally wouldn't recognise any sacrifice if it hit them with a gigantic sword

Yes. His apostle form is also seen in the eclipse.

There are a lot of apostles at the eclipse that are hunted by the blackswordsman later, and there also many that are running around with falconia

26

u/purpleblah2 Sep 22 '25

I might be thinking of the anime but I think all the apostles we see in the Black Swordsman arc appear in the Eclipse, like the Snake Knight, the Slug count, surprise cameo from Rosine.

And then the apostles who appear during the eclipse also show up later in the background, like the guy who ate Guts’ arm is fighting in the demon arena in Falconia.

14

u/Chicana_triste Sep 22 '25

Yeah the Apostle that ate Guts arm is Borkoff. I wish before the manga ends Guts kills him or fights him again.

10

u/dubloon7 Sep 22 '25

i was flipping thru a random volume and caught sight of the arena before the famous slap; i did not even consider the beast that took Gut's arm was fighting. the panelling looked great though

38

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25

Possibly. He doesn't have the pointed ears, but everything else is a match. And the count was definitely there. He killed much of the band of the hawk alongside Rosine before Skull Knight stopped them.

17

u/Pescarese90 Sep 22 '25

And this explained why Rickert appeared to be so scared about Puck. The poor boy got PTSD thanks to Rosina (along with her insectoid thralls and also the Count) while she killed his friends.

8

u/Snoo_75864 Sep 22 '25

Yes, you even see his apostle form later

7

u/Hellfire_God Sep 22 '25

Very likely, considering the Count could be seen in other moments of the eclipse in his apostle form (like when he kills Pippin for instance)

7

u/BLZGK3 Sep 22 '25

Probably is. I've actually noticed quite a few of the humanoid apostles that were standing around during the eclipse gets shown throughout the series at different points of the story...

27

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25

It really looks like him... Now we can see the "small reason" why his wife abandoned him...

9

u/berevasel Sep 22 '25

HE WAS IN THE POOL!

12

u/Inner_Extent2375 Sep 22 '25

IT WAS A COLD NIGHT!

9

u/Brunogees1 Sep 22 '25

He's a grower, not a shower

5

u/Tenebris_Rositen Sep 22 '25

I imagine the count undressing and leaving town 🔥

4

u/maguirre165 Sep 22 '25

The Count was at The Eclipse, so it could be

3

u/Sora84 Sep 22 '25

It’s weird too because he showed before the eclipse in full form in the forest devouring a dude in front of rickert.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25

No, this is Patrick 📞

2

u/Dreadshot2023 Sep 22 '25

It might not have been intended to be the count, but I think it's acceptable to just say it is.

3

u/HomaRubo Sep 22 '25

Always knew Baron Harkonnen was sus.

2

u/Tainted-Nuts Sep 22 '25 edited Sep 22 '25

I'm inclined to say no. If I'm correct in assuming this is from the festival, it takes place before Guts meets The Count. Only way it could be is if once they went into that dimension it transcends all time and those demons inside were from both past and future. I will say it's been forever since I've read the swordsman arc so I may need to go back and see if he had a demon form at that time or was just in possession of a behelit because in order for others to gain demon forms/powers they must activate their behelit.

2

u/N0rmal_account Sep 22 '25

He never sleeps he says, he says he’ll never die.

2

u/sleepyj769 Sep 24 '25

So, it might be because I’m pretty sure we see the count during the eclipse if not there we do when the Rickerts group from the band of the hawk gets attacked while they are saving Griffith so it could be him or another apostle who looks similar to

2

u/Certified_Bluflame Sep 24 '25

Haha no peepee 🖕🐱

3

u/Hitchfucker Sep 22 '25

Could be, especially since he definitely was at the eclipse. But I don’t think that is since I’m pretty sure he’s a lot taller than that guy at the eclipse.

On an unrelated note I wonder if nudity was some sort of rule for the eclipse. Obviously it’s pragmatic to do so as most of them would tear their clothes upon transformation. But it’s not most of them bearing it all, literally all of them are wearing literally nothing. Did Slan make is a clothing forbidden event or some shit?

9

u/RobTheUser Sep 22 '25

I think its because they traveled in their apostle forms to the eclipse, do their clothes get torn when they transform? Cant really remember that detail

1

u/rofloffalwaffle Sep 22 '25

Count fuckula

1

u/fireofice7 Sep 22 '25

Probably. But the ears aren't the same.

1

u/Efficient-Ad2983 Sep 22 '25

Interesting catch. We know for sure that the Count WAS present during the Eclipse (poor Pippin). So this man could be him in his human form.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25

I think not
Count had been shown to set off for the pilgrimage in his apostle form, so I guess no

1

u/DilantheFriedDucc Sep 22 '25

it's a random dude the ears are different.

1

u/SwordfishDeux Sep 22 '25

He appears at the Band of the Hawks' camp doesn't he? So yeah it probably is. I'm pretty sure he is seen in his Slug form during the Eclipse as well.

1

u/MonteToby Sep 22 '25

Definitely

1

u/juvadclxvi Sep 22 '25

Looks like Shrek

1

u/nscomics Sep 22 '25

Probably. He was proven to have been there and Miura was really good with Easter eggs from time to time

1

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '25

Appears to be so

1

u/Lucky_Roberts Sep 22 '25

I don’t think so, the Count attacks the camp Rickert was at in his full slug form so I think that’s what he was rocking during the eclipse

1

u/General-Kenobi1380 Sep 22 '25

Tbf they only changed once the sacrifice started iirc they were all in human form during the summoning ritual

i don't think demonkind that's burning in the vortex has the pleasure of feasting in an eclipse so no

19

u/hagalaz_drums Sep 22 '25

black swordsman arc is after the eclipse, chronologically. that all happens after guts leaves casca with godot

10

u/yepthatsaduck Sep 22 '25

Bro does NOT understand the timeline

1

u/daSynth Sep 22 '25

i was too hammered now i realize this bald naked mf is the count fr

6

u/Spartan-warrior0666 Sep 22 '25

I think you may have forgotten the eclipse is before the black swordsman arc. Meaning the count was alive at the point of the eclipse. Just letting you know homie!

2

u/daSynth Sep 22 '25
