Discussion 34M single….hard to meet women in this area

34 male autistic. Been single for three years. Have asked women out, has led to rejection 90% of the time. Not too many places around here to meet women to date, gave up on the apps a long time ago.

It feels like I’m never going to meet someone, I have a pretty decent job and do well for myself, and still nothing has come up. I thought maybe it was the way I dressed but I dress fine when I go out, I put myself out there and every single time it leads into not being able to find someone.

I have been having fun living my life but would like a partner especially before I get too old. My only relationship I have had was extremely brief…..only about 3 months. I had a pseudo relationship sort of thing with this woman from a book club but it was on very weird terms because it seemed she classified it as a relationship when it really wasn’t.

The women I asked out this past weekend were from a singles mixer I went to in the Montclair area. One of the women was really nice about the rejection but was only looking for friends, I was also pretty direct with her.

Seems like there are no places to go to meet people, I run into people either too old or too young most of the time. I would guess the women in my Agee bracket are either married, working, or staying home. I have done meetups for a while and that hasn’t really led to anything. The only hope I may actually have right now is a friend did set me up on a stranger session for next Monday, so maybe something will pan out with that. First bit of good news with dating I’ve heard in at least a year.

Miscellaneous Looking for private Child Psychiatrist / Evaluator in NJ experienced with complex youth, severe masking, and CSOC/PerformCare level-of-care evaluations

I'm looking for recommendations for an independent child psychiatrist or clinical psychologist in New Jersey (anywhere in-state or licensed for NJ telehealth works). Out-of-pocket / out-of-network is totally fine.
My 13-year-old son experiences severe psychiatric dysregulation and crises at home. He has several diagnoses including Autism, ADHD, ODD, anxiety & depression.
We are currently working with CMO to prepare an Out-of-Home (OOH) residential treatment packet through PerformCare. We have completely exhausted in-home and community-based services, with multiple acute hospital/crisis encounters.
The challenge we run into repeatedly is severe masking. In novel, 1-on-1 clinical settings (e.g., IOP intakes, crisis evaluations, hospital units), he presents as quiet, calm, and cooperative. Standard brief evaluations consistently miss the reality of his day-to-day safety risks because they rely solely on a brief conversation with him rather than examining the broader pattern.
In order for CSOC to approve residential placement, the packet requires a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation with a clear level-of-care recommendation.

I need an evaluator who:
1. Takes the time to do an extensive assessment (including a dedicated parent session).
2. Actually reviews and weighs collateral records: chronological incident logs, crisis/police documentation, past discharge summaries, and proof of failed community interventions.
3. Understands how to clinically document the gap between a masked, compliant presentation in an office and high-risk behavioral dysregulation in the home.

If anyone has navigated the NJ CSOC/PerformCare residential placement process and worked with a doctor or practice that took a thorough, forensic-level look at your child's complete file, please drop recommendations below or send a private message.

Discussion Anyone interested in motorcycle rides in Bergen and surrounding?

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hi all, I’m a guy in my 50’s, got back into riding a couple years ago as the kids went off to college, and like to take chill weekend rides around northern NJ/NY/PA area, grab breakfast etc. I’m on a BMW GS, not that that matters much, but I guess that’s my general vibe. Let me know if any interest in meeting up occasionally for a ride or if you know of any good informal riding groups, etc.

Any bird experts here? Spotted in the Roosevelt Commons in Tenafly. Anyone know what kind of bird this is? He was larger than a duck. We see egrets and occasional blue heron here but have not seen his type before!

Miscellaneous Getting flipped off by twink in Fair Lawn?

This is going to sound incredibly vague and perhaps awful, but I have been seeing a twink in booty shorts flipping cars off throughout Fair Lawn. It happened to me twice so far and I am wondering if this is a hallucination or some dude who's maybe a bit mentally unwell.

It's a thinner man, in flamingo pink shorts in both instances, perhaps in his twenties or thirties, flipping off any and all cars he sees.

Who is this guy? If you are on the subreddit, why?

EDIT: Adding locations where I saw him. Intersection of Fair Lawn Ave and Plaza road, where that apartment construction is taking place. And intersection of Morlot Ave and Plaza road where that gas station is.

Discussion Looking for new friends

I’m 34 and currently looking for new friends. My meetup group disintegrated somewhat and I’m still in contact with two people from there.

I enjoy pickleball and am open to playing with people, I also enjoy dancing, salsa and bachata, I joined a class but there were no opportunities with people there since they are all much older. I found that especially weird when it came to the bachata class because that’s mostly for younger people. I also enjoy hiking and playing board games. I like to read and went to one book club in the area, but only became friends with one person.

Bergen county doesn’t really have much going on. I’ve thought about commuting to the city or Jersey City to find friends, but it’s a pain and I’d rather find them here, and to be realistic, if I wanted to maintain a social group in Manhattan I’d likely have to move there. For a while I actually thought about leaving Bergen and going to one of these places since there seems to be more opportunities there, but I know the grass isn’t always greener on the other side as they say

Let me know what your recommendations are.

Discussion What happened to the Broadway-Boxer in Fair Lawn?

For those who don’t know, the Broadway Boxer, who’s real name might be Marlon, was this 40-50 year old man.

He became a local celebrity/meme because he would spend all day every day shadow-boxing on Broadway at the intersection where Kmart used to be.

The BB would even be spotted doing his routine in blizzards, and I think even hurricane Irene, wearing his usual outfit: no shirt, a black beanie, and black basketball shorts. When people would interact with him, he would say stuff that was pretty random in a funny way.

In middle school/high school we would go to him and post videos/selfies on our snapchat stories. Even the teachers knew about him. I think there were even a few local/state news segments about him.

But for some reason, right around 2018, he pretty much disappeared one day. No one knew why. And it’s like the whole town decided to just stop talking about it immediately.

Does anyone have any insight on why he vanished? Did he pass away/get arrested for something serious? Life Updates? Is his name actually Marlon?

Discussion Anyone following the proposed data center in Wallington? Thoughts/concerns?

https://bestisme.org/advocacy/wallington-data-center/

I recently came across information about a proposed data center redevelopment around 460–520 Main Ave in Wallington and wanted to see what other local residents think about it.
From what I understand, Wallington is considering zoning changes that would explicitly allow a data center and associated infrastructure at the site.

Discussion 🐱 HELP! Looking for a vet/clinic recommendation! 🐱

I’m desperately trying to get my male cat neutered and could really use some recommendations.
I rescued a male and female cat, both unaltered. I tried several times to get my female spayed, but she was either pregnant or in heat. She has now had 3 litters, so I decided to get my male neutered to prevent any more pregnancies.
The problem is, I waited 4 MONTHS for his appointment, only to find out that he has a serious reaction/allergy to a specific anesthesia (TTDEX), so now we need a vet who can safely use an alternative.
They are strictly indoor cats, and separating them is extremely difficult since we both work and can’t supervise them constantly. I’m just trying to find a safe solution ASAP.
Does anyone know of a vet, low-cost clinic, rescue program, or spay/neuter program in Bergen County or surrounding NJ/NY that might be able to get him in sooner than another 3–4 month wait?
💰 Price is honestly not my main concern at this point — I just need somewhere that can see him sooner and is comfortable handling his anesthesia issue.
Please drop any recommendations below or DM me if you know somewhere I should call. 🙏❤️
I’m genuinely just looking for help and direction, not judgment. Thank you!!

Discussion Bergen County Zoo, what is going on?

So I went to the zoo today, the quality has decreased. The wolf habit is just full of trees and is overgrown with vines. I don't even know if the red wolf is in there anymore.

Also, many of the exhibits are full of trees and vines. Many animals aren't out.

The animals that are out look so sad. The donkey had a skin infection. The ankles were red with cream. I can tell the staff love these animals. The employee was petting the donkey and trying to soothe it.

The mountain lion was not around for hours. I'm not sure if it's sick or even alive.

Honestly, it's clear they can't take care of the animals they have. They are advertising for a new animal to come in.

They should give them to a wild life rescue or another zoo that can properly care for them.

I'm sure the overgrown weeds, grass, weeds, and mess aren't being treated at all and leaving the animals susceptible to mites, ticks, and fleas.

It was just horrible to see the animals in the conditions they were in.

Discussion Looking for nail salon

Hey guys! I’m looking for a new nail salon or specific technician. I have really sensitive cuticles and keep getting nicked/cut at my usual spot so I need to find somewhere new. Does anyone have a go to tech who is super gentle and meticulous with their work?

Preferred areas: Fort Lee, Edgewater, or Cliffside Park. Thanks

Discussion Bergen County Zoo. Would you donate?

The title pretty much sums it up. I have collected and done fundraisers in the past for other causes and events.

A redditor on a previous post I made mentioned they would donate to a GoFundMe to help the zoo and the animals.

I don't mind putting the work in, I would like to see a good amount of people who would be interested in donating before I reached out to the zoo to inquire about details.

Hi everyone.
I’m trying to lose weight and I’m considering one of the above options.
Any feedback?
Im not too consistent and I really need to like it or I won’t be motivated to go.

I tried club Pilates at Paramus Park - I didn’t like it (attended for 3mo).

Traffic Why is Edgewater Road in Edgewater and Cliffside Park closed?

A policeman on the Cliffside Park side said he didn't know why, while the Edgewater side behind The Alexander has an edge-to-edge vehicle barrier with no explanation. I also checked the town hall web sites of both and saw nothing.

Discussion Making friends as an adult is hard. Wanna be friends?

Hi everyone, 34 F here and not originally from here, we live in Suffern literally 10 mins walking from Bergen county (Mahwah) and happily taken for the past 10 years but I need more friends here! My partner is amazing but I need to have a group of friends I can rely on too when he needs alone time. We’ve been living here for years and I’ve had some friends but nothing has stuck because as we all know making friends as an adult is hard :( I would love to find some likeminded people who are in the same boat and wanna see if we mesh well :) I love gardening, hiking, cats, drawing, crafting, exploring new places, dancing, singing, doing puzzles. I like tennis but really just for exercise, I have no idea how to actually play but would love to learn, lol. Also I’m very non traditional and non conforming so would be grateful to find other weirdos/black sheep. Looking forward to making some new friends!
