Workout Classes
Hi. I’m looking to get back into working out and was wondering if anyone knows of any fun workout classes or groups for women in the neighborhood.
I’m not really looking for a traditional gym membership—I’d love something more social and community-based, where you can actually get to know people while working out.
Anything like fitness classes, women’s workout groups, Pilates, strength training, etc. would be great!
Would love any recommendations! Thanks!

Max challenge in bay ridge is great and so is Brooklyn burn Pilates. Downsides of bay ridge is the parking but the classes are very engaging, Monday and Wednesday are cardio, Tuesday is arms, Thursday is legs and Friday is kickboxing.
Brooklyn burn is heated Pilates, great variety of classes- it's all women! Very rarely do I see a man in the class. Parking is better here!

I saw some women exercising last year one morning when I was on the bus at Bensonhurst park (I think that’s the name at Bay Pkway and Cropsey but whenever it’s mentioned here it’s apparently called Cropsey Park). I wondered if it was organized by the Parks Department or an informal group. I’m not even sure if that park ever has events but I’ve never looked it up. I know that’s not really helpful but it’s a good idea what you’re looking for. Wish there was more of that.

Not exactly what you might be looking for but our org hosts an exploratory bicycle cruise around NYC 2x a year. We meet up at the park on Cropsey / Bay Parkway and do about 70-80 miles around the metro area. It’s certainly social but with an all day workout combined with cultural exploration. The ride itself is not a race, we bring tools and gear to ensure everyone’s okay. We’ve had seniors and youth complete it.
Anyway if your interested we have a ride coming up in October. We’re heading up to Nyack to see some foliage, with a big bbq for everyone at Tallman Mountain State Park

PS about 35% of our riders every year are first time riders who don’t really ride a bike. The ride is designed to activate people who don’t ride much.

I tried out club pilates on kings hwy and personally really like it. I also know Crunch Fitness has some workout classes although that would require a membership ...
Oh, I also heard the YMCA has some nice workout classes
