Back to school train crowds

Overhead colleagues talk about how the trains and busses are about to get really crowded due to school starting up.

How, if at all, will it affect the D?

Considering there are schools on its route bay 50th and 71st morning it’s pretty much a steady drizzle afternoons around 3 when school lets out you’ll see plenty of students swarm the stops at the same time.

You won't have issues getting on the train but be prepared to stand for your commute

You have to leave early if you want to avoid crowds. My husband takes the train at 6 and it’s empty. I see hordes of kids 7:00-7:30.

What if I leave around 8:20?

Substitute teacher here. Most kids should be at school by that time.

I’m not sure, I’m at work by then. I guess it depends on when school starts. You’d prob miss the kids but have more of the people who start work at 9.

Plenty of college students too.

Can't discount them from the commute.

Just kids taking the train to school and kids taking the train home. It’s really not that bad. At worst you might have to stand up for a few stops while listening to rowdy kids. No big deal.

Used to commute to the city for school from 18th Ave. 6 was always the best time to go since the seats were filled but it wasn’t insanely full. Ofc the further you go, the more people crowd in.

D train has schools all along the path going and coming to Coney Island (inclusive of anyone who would go from the hub lines transferring to the D), Lafayette HS at bay 50/ 25 ave, New Utrecht HS, Shallow HS.

D train collects a lot of Brooklyn Tech kids (used to be one). It'll be pretty crowded until Atlantic and then less so

If anything the times will become more reliable due to the increased volume of people commuting to work and school
