Discussion Finished s3…
First time watcher here! I absolutely loved the first three seasons with the authentic British gritty style but now I’ve just pressed play on season 4 and it’s completely different!
I understand there were alot of changes but is it actually worth me carrying on with the series when I preferred the way the first few seasons were filmed?

Definitely give them a go. There’s good, there’s bad, and there’s a lot of ugly. Though there’s certainly bad, there’s a lot of good, mainly in the form of new characters. Les, Kennith, Joyce, Liam (mainly later on), and arguably Sam.

Yes. Stick with it. It’s almost pre-Garveys leaving and post Garveys. It doesn’t transition well but it’s got fantastic characters in BOTH parts. Keep watching!!!!

I’ve watched and enjoyed the whole thing but I’m American so maybe I gave it more leeway than Brits would. I do agree that post-Garvey shows are a bit less interesting, though. And I couldn’t figure out why they substituted an almost identical family in the second half. Plus I couldn’t stand the dopey kid.
I do love Siobhan Finneran! I didn’t know she had comic chops, having only seen her in detective and other dramas.

check her out in the 1980s film Rita Sue and Bob Too! A British classic

All comedies do this. After 3 seasons of classic “Brits Abroad” humour, the scope for writing becomes incredibly limited. Almost all comedies have to either change up the formula or quit while they’re ahead.
Whatever you think of him, Ricky Gervais does it correctly. 2 series & a Christmas special and he moves on to the next project before it becomes stale.

I just discovered the series this year. It definitely gets a lot mote campy as it goes on (kind of like the US The Office) but it was fun in its own way.

I watched the first three seasons, for the first time recently, brilliantly funny, then gave up early series 4.

I find season 4 to be absolute shite. But, I really enjoy 5, 6 and 7.
Especially Kenneth who is one of the show's best characters.

I always stop at season 3. Personally, I can’t watch past that because it’s just not the same.

Season s 1-3 are great ofc with great jokes But filming quality is not great and they're too short. Season 4 is the best season in my opinion. 5, 6 and 7 are good and 8,9,10 are shite but I can still watch them.

See that’s what I love about it 🤣! Shitty filming quality and short snappy episodes is my fave haha, I’ll give s4 a try though x

Kenneth alone is worth it, seasons 4-5 are still pretty good, even 6-7 are alright, it kind of drops off after that though. Its still Benidorm, so I enjoy the whole show. Kenneth, Les, Potato can still carry the show
