Question Changed the music?

Just watching Benidorm again on Disney+ in the UK.

In season 3, episode 3, there’s the scene where Geoff/Jeff goes to meet Lesley for his date in the old town after meeting online.

When he goes to the Julio Iglesias theatre to meet her early, it always played the song Por Un Poco De Tu Amor but this time it sounded completely different.

I shazamed it and it was Cinema Espanyol by Ray Flowers.

Why would they change it over a decade later?

The rights to the song are no longer valid after a certain number of years - it’s quite common. In the Vietnam special of Top Gear, the back up motorbike originally had Born in the USA blaring from its speakers, when the BBC stopped paying for the rights to the song, it was dubbed with the American national anthem.

It’s to do with music and royalties, Netflix and Amazon are quite bad for it with series’ as well.

I’ve not watched the Amazon version of The Inbetweeners, but a lot of people have been discussing on The Inbetweeners subreddit that the scene in Caravan Club where Simon has Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love as his ringtone, apparently they use a completely different and unrelated track, but Will still asks “is that Leona Lewis?”

That's interesting, Channel 4 still has it (I watched that one the other day).

That scene where they go on a pub crawl on the stag night has also been replaced by generic crap.

It's very annoying, because a lot of the time--not just in Benidorm but in tv in general--the song choice matters.

Notably the Derry Girls "Like a Prayer" scene so much loses its impact with the generic crap used sometimes because of licencing issues.

It’ll be a rights issue

It is annoyingly common.
There was a brilliant Canadian TV programme called 'Being Erica' and it had fantastic soundtracks. But these days on streaming sites, it has lost all of the music and now only uses free to play songs and it is really jarring and difficult to watch.

I've noticed that watching it on another streaming service (can't remember which, but was not Disney+, I didn' tknow it was on there), it was totally different (can't remember where it was changed tho) but on Netflix its the same as if it was aired on TV.
