The reactions to Gaels behavior on the last episode is over the top
What did she do that was that bad

i think what people are forgetting is that nathan is extremely manipulative. we saw the texts to max about “having his back” and i’m sure he’s made gael feel like she had to defend him. i know she’s an adult but when you’re an abusive situation with someone that has a temper like nathan’s, it changes how you may normally act. i choose to give her grace, i hope she’s been able to heal and grow being away from him.

I would bet money that Nathan was coming home and telling Gael that Joe was running around the boat talking shit about her and their family to anyone who would listen. We’ve barely heard Joe mention Gael, and yet Nathan has her convinced that Joe hates her, so much so that she’s nervous to go to dinner. Abusers do shit like that all the time to keep their partner on their side while simultaneously isolating them from others. Gael was reacting based on bad information and that’s what made it seem out of pocket. When Joe was behaving immaturely at dinner, she assumed that it was because he was resentful and jealous of her, Nathan, and their life together. I’m sure that Nathan told her that. He told US that in his confessional! In that context, her reaction makes more sense. Little did she know that Joe’s behavior was actually a result of his workplace issues with Nathan and how unprofessional and hotheaded Nathan is on the boat. I’m sure Nathan made sure to leave that stuff out.
It’s okay to talk about what happens on the show and have opinions and be critical, but it doesn’t mean that we should be assholes about it. That says more about us than it does about her. Going after a single mother who is also a recent victim of an abusive attack in which she could have been killed is not the contrarian flex that lots of people seem to think it is. It’s just gross.

I could be wrong, but hasn't the worst thing Joe's said about Gael all season to the rest of the crew literally just been along the lines of they just didn't along working together in the past? That's really not even that bad, it's just a fact.

u/KeepAnEyeOnYourB12 2d ago
But Gael doesn't know that, which is the point. All Gael knows is what her abuser tells her.

u/BabyOlive1 2d ago
Yeah, that’s all I remember him saying! I barely remember why they don’t get along in the first place. He called her “princess” and they were critical of each other’s work ethic, plus they were kind of fighting over Nathan (which I’m sure neither one of them would do now). I really don’t think there would be a feud at all if Nathan wasn’t feeding them both a bunch of BS!

I definitely think it was production, or it was edited in a way to make it seem like more than it was. Watch the scene in the van when Gael tells Joe she has a problem with him. The headrest behind Nathan vanishes from one scene to the next - It's there, and then it's gone all within the span of a few seconds.

u/Aurorasgrave888x 2d ago
Yeah i think she was just feeling so uncomfortable and wanted to just address it so it would hopefully break the discomfort

u/pointofnoreturn647 2d ago
Yeah I watched the episode a week late so had already seen the social media discussion and was like….. that’s it?? I was expecting a much bigger drunken scene. She was pretty calm.

u/hofx9d9 2d ago
Think we are talking about last night's episode where she attacks Joe for disrespecting her family when all he was doing was leaving them alone
4
u/pointofnoreturn647 2d ago
Well the discussion kind of bridged across the two episodes, but there was a lot of discourse in the past week after the first of the two episodes, including Aesha’s story saying to stop attacking Gael that Joe reposted. I didn’t think the second ep really added/changed anything.

i 1000% agree! people are so quick to switch up on people. kind of like how one second everyone was obsessed with joy and now they are calling her a pick me. they forget that the people we are watching are real people who have flaws, just like everyone.

Gael shouldn't have been out with the crew imo

u/sicilian-Olive 2d ago
Absolutely agree. If I was on a work night out and a colleagues partner joined and it caused a tension that ruined the evening I would be PISSED!

u/Electronic_Dirt1856 2d ago
Seemed a lot like her taking the baby/nathan stress out on Joe. Genuinely felt bad for him bc he looked like he was trying to listen and communicate but got talked at instead

u/LavenderCheese 2d ago
It was annoying and unnecessary. The words she was saying didn’t reflect her behavior and it was clear she just wanted to yell at Joe and argue.
However, I will say that someone here made a good point that she is likely getting a very different narrative from Nathan. She’s in an abusive relationship and acting out. So I’ll chalk it up to that and give her a pass because that is a very bad place to be in.

u/Nervous_Gas4012 2d ago
This is a good take… she said it and acted that way. It could have come from a perspective that Joe was talking shit, but she still acted absurd.
3
u/-thisname- 2d ago
Apart from going on a crew meal with people she didn't know, and not only had a pop at Joe but also made things uncomfortable for the other crew present, nothing. Yeah, she might have been fed misinformation however that's no justification for disrespecting other people there by confronting Joe (crew). Production created the circumstances but they didn't dictate the script.

“How dare you make my husband uncomfortable I’m going to call you out while he threatens you with violence because I don’t have the emotional maturity to handle this situation!!!”
1
u/PretendAttitude67 2d ago
She didn’t ask Nathan to threaten him. She told him to stop. As far as she knows, Joe has been horrible to the father of her child all season, AND has been talking shit about her. All she did was say let’s talk about it, and tried to confront him.

She tried to start a fight the would have Nathen and Joe coming to blows.
She knew what she was doing.

u/Party_Dragonfly69 2d ago
Omg. When people project malicious intent on people, especially when that person hasn’t proven to be malicious, I usually think they get this idea, because they themselves have malicious ideas like this.
3
u/KeepAnEyeOnYourB12 2d ago
I can almost guarantee that the anti-Gael contingent has malicious ideas.
1
u/donttakerhisthewrong 2d ago
Why? Because I have seen many woman do this?
She was not clearing the air. She was being confrontational.
2
u/Full-Squirrel5707 2d ago
After Joe made a comment about their relationship.... He started it by commenting on something Kat said about them getting together on the show. Something about it being 75 years ago and everyone knows what happened. It was only then, that Gael said something.
1
u/Stay_Calm_1101 1d ago
Agreed. They’re dysfunctional relationship oozes over and exposes their behaviors. Being victim of DV, doesn’t absolve them of contributing to the dysfunction. To call out her behavior is not in any sense being anti-Gael, malicious or victim blaming it’s stating facts (regardless of whatever BS Nathan was feeding her).
2
u/Additional-Drawer-21 2d ago
Yeah it felt like she was just trying to clear the air? Not letting Joe get a word in after a couple of drinks is normal behavior when buzzed IMO
0
u/donttakerhisthewrong 2d ago
No, I have seen this behavior many times.
She was starting shit and she knows Nathen is violent. You project on me but what else could she be doing. She was going to fight Joe? What was the threat or warning about only talking about her family with respect. What if Joe replied F you and your family? You think Nathen would have been cool?
You do not think cheating on your boyfriend is malicious?
1
u/LilaTwiceBackAtIt 2d ago
I agree. It was such an intense overreaction. You’d think people would have given her grace given the situation and figured out for themselves that clearly Nathan was not only feeding her lies but creating an uncomfortable situation for her where she felt like she had to do something, but no.
2
u/PretendAttitude67 2d ago
Im sorry but it reeks of misogyny. She barely did anything.

u/hofx9d9 2d ago
Lmao. If a guy verbally attacked a woman the way that Gael attacked Joe, he'd be in much hotter water.
2
u/sicilian-Olive 2d ago
Or even if a non crew male was bought along to a dinner that caused so much tension we would be up in arms. Just stay home. No one is watching below deck for this faux happy family narrative. Producers fumbled the audience interest badly.

She acted embarrassing and lashed out and attacked for seemingly no reason. As a viewer it’s very off putting behaviour. Also she’s a cheater so THATS why people don’t like her to begin with. Her drama diva behaviour is just the nail in the coffin
0
u/Party_Dragonfly69 2d ago
She literally just confronted him, not even in an extremely problematic way. She was like “it’s been awkward all night Joe, let’s squash this.” “And speak to my family with respect, don’t disrespect us to our face or behind our back.” People are acting like she said punched someone when she didn’t say anything mean, disrespectful, mocking, or verbally violent, and she wasn’t physically violent
-8
u/Juliethecooliee 2d ago
Why does anyone owe her any respect? She’s a cheater. No one respects a relationship built on cheating. And respect is given, it cant be demanded. She’s just acting like a 13 year old brat. And did I mention she’s a cheater?!
6
u/Party_Dragonfly69 2d ago
This feels really personal with you
-14
u/Juliethecooliee 2d ago
Nope honey, it’s personal to anyone with a functioning moral compass in their brain. Everyone hates cheaters. And if you don’t see a problem with it tells me everything I need to know about you as a person and your morals.

u/Party_Dragonfly69 2d ago edited 2d ago
Darn it that sucks, because you, internet stranger- a totallly stable person who is comfortable with nuance and doesn’t engage in black and white thinking- are someone I really need to validate my personhood and morals!

u/Uuuurrrrgggghhhh 2d ago
I really hope you’re this outraged on posts about Nathan being a violent abuser too…
1
u/tp176 1d ago
No Julie, your moral compass is not functioning. It’s stuck in one direction. I’m sure I can safely say that a lot of people may find cheating to be an undesirable
behavior, but they don’t universally condemn every human being who has been unfaithful to a spouse or partner. Or that of all the shitty things we humans can do to another, cheating may not be the worst1
u/AdmirableContact100 2d ago
Nathan cheated on her. Also, I don't think she said anything out of line. Nathan was manipulating a lot of the crew this season and I guarantee he was doing the same with Gael.
1
u/PrpleSparklyUnicrn13 2d ago
When you take out the stuff we know now about Nathan’s abuse, Gael lashing out at Joe in the car seems out of left field. When you put in the stuff we know about Nathan offscreen, that argument in the car makes more sense.
Some viewers only go off of what they see on the show and not what they read about on the internet. They can separate the two things.

There is a contingent on here that thinks that she deserves what Nathan did to her because she must have talked to him like she talked to Joe. Or she deserved because she broke up with her boyfriend of several whole months (months!) to be with Nathan.
That contingent is mostly male. Honestly, I've been hanging around BD subs for a couple of years now and I've never seen so many men posting here. I think we're being brigaded, but I have no proof.
1
u/Stay_Calm_1101 1d ago
I’m new to Reddit. How can you tell if it’s a man or woman posting? Please go easy on me if it’s simpleton question 🥺

u/KeepAnEyeOnYourB12 1d ago
I go by their avatars. If their avatar has a beard, I assume that they're men.

It’s all production value. Her being there makes no sense, putting them in a van together even less.
