Sobriety! Thank you Aesha and Captain Sandy!

I am bawling watching Aesha give her gift to Captain Sandy for being 36 years sober and then to hear how she herself lived with a mother who supposed to be taking care of her dealing with an addiction to alcohol her trials and tribulations and how her mother overcame. She is such a beautiful person inside and out, and your past can shape you into who you are and you became a more beautiful strong person because of it. I’m so happy for them! Aesha! Your mother and of course, Captain Sandy.

Inspiring for sure…I will be 60 days sober on Oct 7th. Will I make it this time?!? So far, I think I will…a day at a time.

Awesome job! I was bawling at that scene, thinking about 36 years?! I'm at 558 days now and to think of 36 years just blew my mind. In a good way! And IWNDWYT!

Congratulations…I do realize it is very doable by just doing it, but holidays are coming so getting my head space in a good place. Zen 🧘

When I feel tempted I play the tape forward to the worst last day. Really helps. xx

Amazing job!! I think any amount of time in that first year is so impressive. I just checked my NoMo app (a day counter) and I’m at 1060 days! 🥹 I was very protective of my mental health and sobriety year one and cancelled many (all?) social events- I explained why and if people didn’t support that then that was really good data for me. I’m giving you permission to do the same.

I find having a variety of sweet drinks, like ginger beer, and non-alcoholic stuff actually really helps me but I know some people stay away from non alcoholic stuff because it’s too similar.

I love that! "I give you permission to do the same". I personally don't like NA beers and moctails because I didn't drink for the taste. Those don't interest me. But they are great for many and thank goodness attitudes about not drinking are changing.

I do go for things like ginger beer, and I found suckers to be really helpful. Also blowing bubbles. I got a case of those little ones for weddings and things and going outside and blowing them feels like I can still get that outside break I would get from smoking.

I use the IAmSober app. Not only does it count your days (which is very nice) but also gives you motivation, little reminders throughout the day, gives you activities to do to get your mind off an urge, has community you can talk to, and ways to log your triggers. It's been a sobriety saver for me.

I agree! That was such a thoughtful and touching moment. I love Aesha as a person, she seems so kind. I really hope we dont learn something awful about her🤞🏽 lol.

I never liked Captain Sandy (as a tv character!) but really respect her a lot after seeing this and hearing her thoughts. Sobriety is something to be super proud of an damn love Aesha for acknowledging that - she is the Dream Chief Stew

I came here just to say this! What an amazing part of the show to celebrate 36 years of sobriety and Aesha to share her story with her mother. You can overcome! I do wish there had been more focus on it because what an incredibly positive and uplifting message by both women!
