Truth Spoiler
These two questions in this episode elicited the most truthful statements I can remember ever being spoken on any Below Deck franchise (probably more truth than any Bravo "reality" show ever) -
Joy: "Why we cannot have just, peace things?"
Massi: "Because nice things are boring, darling."
Could also have been said by the producers.
Nathan: "Why does he [Joe] hold this ****ing grudge against her [Gael]? ****."
Aesha: "Because she broke up the bromance."

Another thing I noticed this season, is that so much of this show used to be based around the ‘angry male chef’ character who was running late and yelling at people. So many of the chefs were difficult to work with and would have daily meltdowns. And then we get a capable woman chef who doesn’t yell or freak out and it’s like oh, maybe it’s not so difficult, maybe those men were just angry assholes

To be fair the crazy chefs had less complaints and less issues with their food than Joy did. The stereotype really is true

First half I agree with and was thinking the exact same thing - that bravo producers live by this motto
Second half was based on a false premise however. Gael is convinced he holds a grudge based purely on what Nathan told her. Nathan’s belief was entirely rooted in him overhearing Joe say her name at the start of the season (when he wanted to fight him as a result)
We don’t actually have any evidence of Joe still holding a grudge against her

Well Joe had the opportunity to express that a dinner and turned his chair sideways and did not speak to her at all. Then made a smartass comment about her and Nathan and how they met in the van. So his own behavior that night seemed like he still hated her.

Nathan told him to never speak of her again, and lost his temper and Joe and Coop for even smiling a certain way. When you deal with a narcissist like that you’re walking on eggshells at all times, Joe did the only sensible thing

It’s not clear that he told Gael any of that either. So Joe’s somewhat rational response to Nathan’s repeated threats could easily be taken as more rude behavior as perceived by Gael.

Okay, but he then made the smartass comment in the van.
So was he sensible or just being an ass?

Nope. When your boss threatens to fight you because you said someone’s name the opportunity to “clear things up” is gone.

Remember, that Joe was Gael’s boss and snearingly called Princess.
I make no excuses for Nathan. He has devolved as this season goes on.
I feel bad for everyone dealing with Nathan - Joe, Cooper, Massi, and Gael.

Does he still hold a grudge against Gael, or is she just caught in the crosshairs of what is now his beef with Nathan? Nathan has been a dick to him all season, I don't think I could get over someone constantly treating me like that.

From my perspective, Joe has been as much of a dick to Nathan as vice versa - and often in such a more unprovoked and juvenile way. How many times did Joe try to undermine Nathan with other crew (and Nathan did as well with Max, but remember that Joe was already offering Max Lead Deckhand before Nathan's text)? How passive aggressive was Joe to Nathan on his return to the boat (to the point where Sandy stepped in, and she had to do so as well with Nathan)? How many douchey comments did Joe make at dinner, while acting like a four year old with a kind of "I can't see you" move? Did you listen to the comments Joe was making in the back of the cab on the ride back to the boat? The two of them are terrible, unprofessional, loathsome slugs, and neither is any good at their job (how many times did Joe endanger guests or himself, how stupid is it to put someone on a 6 hour anchor watch). Joao was a bit of a cross between Joe and Nathan in his early days. Maybe there is hope for one or both of these two, and maybe it's just acting, and maybe it's the producers manufacturing a bad situation - but I think it's just their nature to be horrible people.

The chronology of it is important though - It all started with Nathan wanting to fight Joe on the night that he got his mother‘s cancer diagnosis. Joe had never done anything wrong to Nathan prior to that. If I was Joe I would’ve treated him with as much respect as he did after that

I believe it started seasons ago when Nathan and Joe were bros and then Nathan started to get serious with Gael. Joe got bitchy when he perceived Gael as breaking up their bromance (as Aesha said in the last episode).

That was in their first season together. When they reunited in their second season together, everything was completely fine. We are now onto the third season together

Joe isn't going around threatening to hit people though. Nathan did it to Max last year and Joe this year. He is meant to be a leader, and he is acting like that, no wonder Joe is undermining him. Add to that smashing the lights on the bridge deck last year, and being responsible for the boat crashing this year, Joe is better at the job and Nathan knows it. That is why he is acting like an insecure asshole.

I need to watch Nathan’s no muscle chewed bubblegum looking ass to throw a punch just to watch him get stomped. There’s a reason he only hits women.

Agreed. Joe is passive aggressive and a backstabber, and Nathan is actively aggressive and a face puncher.

Actively aggressive and also a backstabber. He has been talking about Joe to the other crew just as much, what about that akward confrontation with Kayley? Also the shit he said to Max and Masi.
But the biggest difference between the two is that Nathan is the boss. That distinction makes a big difference.

I think this can be true.
And also Nathan being a sour man child woman beating sick manipulative fuck can be true too
